The Playhouse is located in a great area in Santa Monica and there are a lot of eateries and places to walk. The 3rfd St. Promenade is just a block away. Parking is easy in the public parking lot right across the street, it is for a small fee. All of the kid's plays are great and our grandson has not missed one yet. They also do holiday themed plays. The prices are great, this is one of the last places you can take a kid and not spend more than 18$ a ticket and often less. The staff is the nicest. It is not for profit and the entire staff and actors work for free. They also have Birthday parties. The place is small and adorable you will love it.

Caught the play "Guac" this weekend at Kirk Douglas Theatre and had such a great experience. The…read moretheatre itself provides a very intimate audience experience and every seat feels close to the action, which made the performance feel really immersive. The staff was friendly and organized, and getting in and seated was smooth even with a full house. The Center Theatre Group hooked us up with a pair of second row tickets for this play when we were at the LA Times Festival of Books, and we purchased an additional pair for friends to join us for the show. Guac was a hilarious, creative, and heartfelt production. What amazed me was how the star of the show managed to pull off such a spectacular performance as a one-man band. His energy combined with the excellent crowd work on the audience made the whole night feel surreal. Without giving away too much of the plot, I can tell you that this play is very much on the nose for today's social climate and the timing couldn't be more perfect with upcoming elections. You can tell this theatre really supports bold, original productions instead of just playing it safe. Also appreciated how clean and well-maintained the venue was, plus there are plenty of good spots nearby to grab food or drinks before the show, like ramen at Ippudo or Mensho Tokyo. They also validate parking for an additional two hours if you park at City Hall, so I recommend taking advantage of this. The recommended attire is more on the casual side compared to Broadway shows you'd catch at Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, so leave the suits at home and pack a comfy outfit instead. Already looking forward to coming back for another production!

Probably one of the few groups here without children. For some strange reason, after purchasing my tickets, it said to pick them up from the box office, but that was no issue and we were able to get physical tickets ASAP, around 20 minutes before the musical. There's concession where you can get snacks (must finish before entering the theater) or drinks (can bring inside). They had some specials for the season and some specials for the showing, which we got both of. I really liked the non-alcoholic Swamp Water, very refreshing and fruity and the little palm tree umbrella was very cute and on theme. My bro and his friend shared the Croc Cooler, which was made with vodka, blue curacao, orange juice and bitters, and sprite and a stick of cinnamon. Very strong, had to water this down with the Swamp Water, but overall, definitely much more affordable than the spirits at the Ahmanson theater. There's also complimentary water. For the families there, there was a table for coloring and craft making, a wall to share your artwork, a nook of books recommended by the Croc, and a small table selling merchandise. For concession and merch, it was cashless only! It's a smaller theater but it uses the space pretty well, some seats to the side, and some balcony seats too. The stage is at ground level meaning you can walk in from the first row of seats (some parents had to reel in their toddlers from doing this). We were in the 3rd row from the front and the sound was nice and crisp, lighting was great, and it was nice from where we were at to see the details in the set, costume, and puppetry. The play was amazing, and I'd highly recommend seeing it if you get the opportunity. Big thanks to Michael K. for alerting us to the show, which we otherwise wouldn't have known about. Parking was easy and cheap, $5 for a matinee show (apparently $8 for evening). We cut it close and arrived just a few minutes before the 2:00 start time, but we were apparently in good company and got to our seats well before curtain. We were stopped just outside the theater by a group of IATSE protestors, who handed out flyers asking patrons to pressure management to give the Wallis crew a fair contract. According to this flyer (and I can't find anything else about this online), the Wallis has been bargaining with the union for six months and pays crew below standard wages for Los Angeles County. If anyone at Wallis is reading this Yelp review, consider it my email in support of the union. You're a theater named for a billionaire heiress. Pay your people. The theater was nice and the production was fantastic. Our seats were in the mezzanine, and we had a great view of the stage. Loved the set design, which involved a single classroom structure on a rotating platform. The performances were amazing, as was everything else that went into the production. I hope the Wallis does right by its crew so they can keep putting on top notch theater. I get their emails now and have not yet unsubscribed, as I'd like to know what other shows they have in the pipeline.

As a amateur cosplayer/dapper day enthusiast I hardly ever get a chance to use my vintage threads because there aren't many venues which allow you to wear your swing era fashion. However from the moment I approached the Clifton's Canteen, I was immediately greeted by an array of 1940's classic cars and a red carpet marking the venue.It was awe-inspiring to see all the players dressed to the tens both guys and dames in classic Navy, Army, MP military uniforms. As you walk through the beautiful entrance way you are transported into the sights, sounds, smells of a 1940's canteen military ballroom. Golden standards fill the air, friendly patrons dressed in classic formal gowns, gent in suits, A-line dresses, tuxedos, sweater sets, zoot suits,bobby sockers and dapper gents move about the 3-story building in the cafeteria, lounge, two bars, conservatory, ballroom dancefloor, live music stage, various seating lounges and numerous photo op displays. The Creating Arts Studios crew are real professional who engage and immerse you in the era of the event. They stayed in character both on stage and most importantly off when they were engaging with the guest. The host channeling Bing Crosby was the best portraying smooth charisma, saucy wit, high class and swoon worthy voice. The Andrew sisters performance was a definite show stopper having everyone sing along and they could really harmonize. The young lady singer, Patty Page, I think was so great and loved her sultry romantic ballads. My favorite by far way the two MP solider singers who literally had people in tears with the songs they sang and the great performances to boot. If you ask nicely with a big smile the male actors might dance with you when they aren't on stage....talk about worth it lol. Plus they weren't too hard on the eyes, if you get my drift ladies. This type of classy, timeless and fun event is exactly the type of venue others like myself having been yearning for years. I want to thank all the crew, singers, band, the Clifton's cafeteria workers (who also were in character by the way which thought was great touch) for making this a magical experience for me. Without a doubt in my mind this company and these events will be become even bigger success in the very near future. Oh yeah by the way their performance end at ticket time but DO NOT book it for the door. The secondary fun begins after the show when the swing era dj puts on lively swing hits and classic slow dances of the time fulling up the upstairs ballroom with dancers of all ages and levels. I saw older couples slow dancing, young people lindy hopping, a foxtrot and tons of cool people grabbing a drink and laughing with friends. Thanks Creating Arts studios for a night I could only dream up and next time I will definitely be bringing along as many people as I could gather to these awesome events.

We have seen both "The Experiment" and "Chicabarent" which we just saw on Friday evening, May 20th, 2016. Chicabarent was a combination show of Chicago, Cabaret and Rent. I really am not going to go into a great and lengthy description, because you can't describe these shows accurately in a Yelp review. You must see them for yourselves. The shows are amazing, though provoking, entertaining and lots of audience interaction (which we love). The cast of both shows have been absolutely stunning! Please see a show here. It is simply a great experience. How could you not love this place?

Even when it was a Laemmle's way back when…read more The Lumiere shows films that would never screen at the bigger chain theaters (AMC, Cinemark, etc). And, the venue itself is rather iconic for diehard moviegoers. During the weekday, there's probably only one employee doing ticket sales and concessions. So, be patient. During the weekend, there's more customers and more staff on hand.

The whole production was just one and sometimes two pairs of hands on a table. You'd think that would get old after a few minutes but you would be wrong. They did the moon landing. It was fantastic. Too bad they didn't stage it again a few weeks back at the 40th anniversary.

But I am SO GLAD I was recently afforded the opportunity to finally check it out when I was granted tickets to a screening/Q&A of Omaha. They only have 1 screen but I loved how it's a great balance between vintage + modern. Usually with the former, you expect uncomfortable seats but I found these to be quite comfortable, with plenty of legroom and good stacking of rows so that your view isn't compromised. The theater itself is spacious AND gorgeous in its own right. May sound silly but I also judge movie experiences considering concession - here, although there are only a couple of operators, they run the lines efficiently and their popcorn is fresh and tasty (even when the butter topping is administered on their end). I could see required street parking being a challenge but I haven't had an issue in the surrounding areas that time, or since. Yes, after this screening I signed up for the Landmark Theatres loyalty program because I knew I'd definitely be back. And already have, for another Q&A (the film Forge). I love that they screen indie films and extend opportunities like this for fairly reasonable prices.
