This place is AAAAMAAAZING! Nothing fancy, but you can pet/hold all the animals there. There aren't any rides or playgrounds, but there is a pond to walk around and tractor pull rides that takes you around the premises for free. If you have the kind of kids that I do, who want to pat all the animals, this is the place for you. I believe they also offer horse back riding, but I'm not sure. This place is an hour drive for us, but when all Other farms are still closed and this one has animals to pet, you can't beat it. There's a fee per person, but it's still worth it. And it's cheaper than the bigger farms. read more

Not just for children! My husband and I had a blast meeting the goats at the petting zoo. You get to go right into their enclosure, brush their pelts, and pet them. There are so many goats, and they all have such different personalities! We even saw goat acrobatics when a baby goat climbed on top of the mom goat. Such a cool way to spend a Saturday afternoon. They also sell delicious popcorn right outside the farm, and the staff is really welcoming. read more

Loved this place! My wife and I took my daughter here. Last weekend and it was a perfect gem. Starting with the employees, they were all great, super nice! I don't know if the kids they had working with the animal were doing community service but they were all so nice. The animals were all sweet. Im assuming they are used to the people already. Donuts, popcorn and juice wasn't pricey at all. Best of all (If you care) they did an amazing job with Covid policy. Everyone wore their masks including all the visitors. Tootles! Great job. This is a fun farm experience with all of the quintessential pieces: hay rides, pumpkin picking and a big red barn! I came here on a field trip with my early childhood class. The volunteers were beyond wonderful at accommodating our small kiddos! We had the opportunity to pet chickens, cows, horses, pigs, and rabbits, as well as look at duck, geese and newly hatched chicks! We were able to pick up and hold a few animals as well! Our kiddos had a complete blast! Located about an hour outside of Chicago, it's not TOO bad of a drive. We'll be back again next year for sure :) read more

The preschool has many lovely events during the course of the year. This is a fave! The kids dress up in the traditional roles as shepherds, angels, Mary, and Joseph. Animals from the farm complete the scene, and a short narrative and a few carols tell the Christmas story. read more

We love The Center Childrens Farm! My daughter participates in the Jr. Farmers Camp during the Fall and Summer with Farmer Paul and Shay and she loves it! Everything about our experience at the farm was stellar. The staff and volunteers were friendly and courteous, the grounds were well-maintained, things were organized in an approachable way, and the offerings introduced my toddler son to what a real farm is like. (I appreciated that the activities and set-up were not theme park-ish like some other places.) It was so awesome to be able to see the animals up close and groom them! Pumpkins were beautiful, too. I want to give a shout out to all the people who were kind to us during our visit: -Ladies at the Playland entrance -The adult and child volunteers at the barn -The guys who help people onto the wagons for pumpkin picking -The tractor drivers -The guys at the pay-for-your-pumpkin tent -The people working at the food tent -The man who help my partner get cash when the ATM wasn't working My son didn't want to leave when we visited yesterday and when we got home he asked when we're going back! Came here on a field trip in May, with 64 first graders. The staff was so organized when we arrived, and our tour guide was so patient with my little ones and informative. It was also truly hands on; after a little talk about each animal, the kids were allowed to pet them. I was afraid of the kids overwhelming the animals but the guide wasn't at all and said the animals were used to it and I suppose they were b/c none of the animals tried to run away or bite, and the kids LOVED it!!! This was three classes worth of student, but due to our particular situation, we are not equally dispersed and I have 30 I call my own. However, I love that the staff broke is up into 3 even groups of just over 20, so I sent a parent chaperone & their group with each of the other classes. Luckily I have great teammates and parent helpers! But I really didn't need to worry b/c it really is a guided tour so that each group stays with their guide to go to the different areas. They planned and timed a rotation system very well so that each group got to see everything. It was also contained so I didn't have to worry about loosing any kids along the way! Thank you so much to all the staff for the patience and great organization!! We also took the hayride which the kids loved!! Then we ate lunch in the pavilion area before heading back to school. I had the pleasure of being a chaperone for my son's school field trip to this farm. We had such a good time learnings about farm animals and petting them. My 3rd old really enjoyed the hayride at the end of our tour. They have horses, cows, sheep & many other animals. So much fun!! I will be back with my family. our family has been buying pumpkins from children's farm for 6 years. we've also gone to the farm at other times of the year and always enjoy it. however, having never been to another children's farm/pumpkin patch, i don't have anything to compare it to... i've heard that other farms are too busy or not worth the admission. i'd never heard that about children's farms from other families in our south side neighborhood. first of all, i think the drive to children's farm (once you get off the freeway for those of you coming from outside the south side) is quite picturesque. there are a lot of trees and during the seasonal change, the colors are beautiful. there's a good size parking lot at children's farm so you don't have to worry about that... when you first arrive, it's a good idea to go thru the farm first then you won't be carrying pumpkins around with you. children's farm is not that big and there's no train rides or bounce houses. so for our kids who can get a little overstimulated, a little quickly - that was a plus. admission to the barn is $4.50 per person, children under two are free. there are horses to ride, but i think rides are only offered during the week. there are rabbits, ducks, chickens, sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys, etc... all manner of domesticated livestock to pet and ooh and aaah over... there has always been a staff member available for questions the kids may have or to advise the children on the proper way to pet the animals... the weirdest thing i saw at the farm had to be the enormous poster/diagram of a cow/bull labeled into cuts of meat - right in front of their stall. i swear they will rise up and take over that barn... the admission on the hay ride and pumpkin patch are free. i forget how much the pumpkins are per lb. we usually go the week before halloween and there is still a large and diverse selection of pumpkins in the patch. they also sell hay bales and corn and gourds. as well as honey. often, there is a bonfire lit somewhere in the pumpkin patch. on a crisp day, after walking thru the patch it's great to just sit there and listen to the snapping of the fire and the cawing of the crows overhead. they also have a haunted farm attraction in the evening hours on certain nights... i've never been, but you can view some of the attractions in the day from the outside and can imagine how at night, they could be a little hair raising... :) all in all, i have never had a bad experience at the farm. my children are 6 and 3 now and are still asking to go back. people of all ages visit the farm and rarely do i ever see a disgruntled visitor. read more

Love to come here when the weather is nice. Only 6 bucks for entrance. You get to pet all the animals. Hay rides are so much fun! The people that work here are volunteers and love what they do. So when we come here every one is so happy to help us with holding some of the animals. read more

I wish I could write a review, unfortuately I have been waiting over a week to receive information on a Hayride that is held in October. I was told that Amy (who is in charge ) is so so busy. In addition I have e mailed her. The receptionist I spoke to last week advised that there was no such Hayride? Most unpleasant lady! We went today to pick pumpkins. There were puddles and it was kinda muddy because of the rain the night before. However, the people were so lovely and kind. The hayride out to the patch and the golf cart ride to our car with our big pumpkins in tow were a nice unexpected bonus. We will return. read more

I have been going to this farm for a few years, and have noticed some things that I find very concerning, mainly the condition that some of their animals are in. This year however, is the last time I will ever visit this farm, or waste any money on them. I was there during their "fall festival/craft fair" and had an opportunity to speak with one of their volunteers that cares for the horses. She too was extremely worried about the condition of the horses, and has repeatedly made her concerns known, but has always been given the brush-off. Main concern: the horses are continually placed in a small muddy enclosure, with no access to fresh grass/hay. Any grass they are able to reach is by stretching their necks for the few blades available outside their enclosure. The horses are consistently walking in and through thick, wet mud, which can't be good for their hooves. Their bodies are always muddy and fly are consistently buzzing around them. There was another horse in a small dark enclosure within the barn, no access to water, and was "stealing" hay from a small pile next to his enclosure. He had to literally bend his neck at a right angle to even reach it as he had nothing else to eat. Their "barn cats" were also in varying degrees of neglect. I saw one cat that had an eye infection, upper respitory, and was extremely thin. I immediately pointed this cat out too one of the workers and was told, "Oh, she's fine." I mentioned that she is too thin and should be given some food and medical attention, the response "well, she lives in the barn, she's a barn cat, not a house cat, and there are lots of mice for her to catch..." Another cat was limping and full of filth. I don't care if the animals are supposed to "work for their food" they still deserve quality care and concern. If you want to view it as a cheap, family fun place to go for pretty scenery and pony rides, then great! However, next time you go take a good look at the life and living condition of the animals behind all the "fluff." read more

This is a little gem that lets kids get up close and personal with a variety of farm animals. They have wonderful volunteers by every animal in order to educate people about the animal and answer any questions. They teach kids how to hold or approach the animals. The farm is lovely and provides a very rural experience. We've come to the Children's Farm weekend hours throughout the year and they always have something to offer- not just during the Fall/pumpkin patch season. read more

I went here a few times just for the farm and for the pumpkin patch. The pumpkin patch is good they have a lot of pumpkins to choose from and have a free hay ride to and from the patch it's nice and there is good scenery during the ride. They also have the farm with all the animals and the pony rides my kids always have loved it. Not too big but definatly not small. I like it because the location is not too far and the prices are cheap and most of all it is not too crowded I hate crowded pumpkin patches with just too much to do after all aren't you there to pick pumpkins. read more

Just attended the annual Easter Egg Round Up for the second time. It was nice to see that even two years later there was still the petting zoo, egg and basket station, and magical forest with the Easter Bunny. We did, however, avoid the horse rides as the line was excessively long. We did appreciate a volunteer asking us (because she noticed we missed the hole punch on our son's ticket for the ride) if we had a chance to stop by that station. We ended up waiting in line or surrounded by hoards of people at each station during most of our visit. Combined with large crowds (which we know was attempted to spread out with different entry times), lack of nearby parking, and our drive time, we won't find ourselves attending this event in the future. Not sure what the possibilities are, but spreading this event out over two weekends might help alleviate some of this congestion. Our son did have a descent time, and for that we are grateful. read more
