I have never felt so humiliated in a store as I did at this Goodwill location in East Ridge. This happened on 4/29/26 in late morning/early afternoon. My husband is in his 60s, a stroke survivor, and relies heavily on a cane. He has difficulty speaking and sometimes gets confused, so he needs a little extra time to communicate and understand. What happened here was the exact opposite of the patience and understanding anyone would expect from a charity that prides itself on being "inspired by compassion for the poor, sick, and disabled." A cashier named Helen told him the senior discount was 25%. My husband said that he had been told at a different location just a couple of weeks ago that it was 40%. Instead of showing an iota of empathy or patience, and try to help my husband understand, she repeatedly talked over him. He wasn't upset--he was trying to get his words out, which is already difficult for him. Her tone was incredibly loud and rude. Then, she volunteered to call the manager, Jeremiah, like she was bringing in back up. Which I suppose she was because he was no better--if anything, he was worse because he was the manager and should have tried to de-escalate Helen's irritation and the situation in general. Instead, just like his employee, he also talked over my husband repeatedly, didn't allow him to finish a sentence, and showed ZERO patience or empathy. To the point that my husband was reducing to asking, 'Can I please finish my sentence?' multiple times and was ignored while Jeremiah kept talking over him. It was impossible for my husband to communicate at all. We were calm the entire time. No threats or yelling. Not even any foul language. Yet instead of showing any understanding toward an elderly, disabled man who may have simply been confused, we felt completely attacked. When my husband tried one more time, "Can I please finish my sentence?" - We were then told that if we didn't leave, we would be escorted out. Imagine a disabled man in his 60s, barely able to walk with a cane being forcibly escorted out of a Goodwill of all places because he was misinformed on the senior discount! The entire exchange, from start to finish, lasted only a few minutes. We left quietly--but the experience was deeply upsetting and humiliating. No one deserves to be treated this way. This was not just poor customer service--it was openly rude, dismissive, and lacking in basic human decency. What makes this even more troubling is that this experience is completely at odds with Goodwill's stated mission to support individuals facing barriers to independence. Again - If this is how employees are trained to treat disabled customers in their stores, how are vulnerable individuals treated behind the scenes when they come to Goodwill for help?

This goodwill is not the smallest location I've ever been to, and the items to browse didn't fill…read moreit up. There weren't many options, and no one in my party found anything. It was clean for a thrift store and the employees where quite nice. There just wasn't enough to browse through. They had a lot of t-shirts, which isn't a good quality in a thrift store. Overall, I probably won't be back, but was impressed by how nice the employees were!

The Electric Crocodile is THE best vintage store though - from clothing to games to decor to collectibles to keepsakes. This store is like a choose your own adventure through fabulousness. Mom and I stopped in last weekend, experiencing a fun, friendly staff and seeing so many deals on stylish clothes, potential home decor from past iconic eras, and just fun stuff. Some of what I saw - Garbage Pail Kids cards, Star Wars figurines, gems, 60's & 70's & 80's clothing pieces in great condition, and unique candlesticks and art. And an energetic cat is the unofficial store keeper. Can't wait to go back for a few hours soon to decide on what to purchase first!

I found CrocBuster purely through a fluke -- I asked Google for "dvd / video stores" near me (not expecting much of anything), but I was so pleasantly surprised -- This isn't a STORE, it's an EXPERIENCE! -- a virtual MAZE from one cool "fan-niche cubby hole" to another -- original Star Wars toys, all types of "retro kid stuff" that will bring back many a happy memory, as well as both new & used vinyl LPs, TONS of collectable VHS (Disney clamshells, etc.) and all kinds of tchotchkes and gewgaws you didn't even know existed. (The video online really doesn't do it justice -- you just have to experience it.) I had some old DVDs & VHS tapes in my car that I was hoping to unload (again, not expecting much), only to be so pleasantly surprised. The manager, Paul, turned my two boxes around in a hurry while I shopped. (Both Paul and his wife Michelle and all of the staff were very, very welcoming and helpful in a most genuine way. Michelle gave me a tour of their massive store.) I ended up using my $60 of credit (and then some!) ** Oh, prices are very reasonable, btw. Will definitely be back in the near future. Every detail here is about the same employee…read more I listened to her berate a family with small kids for a full 15-20 minutes immediately when I arrived. She was coercing one of the family members to translate her rant from English into Spanish, and lecturing the adults present on not letting their children look around the store away from them. The store's patrons then had to hear her gossip about it for an additional 30 minutes, complaining to other customers and saying she wasn't racist. During the discussion with the family, she said the kids might break something, and the mother tried to assure her that if they did, she'd pay for it, not to justify them breaking something, but just as a way to try to reclaim some accountability the employee was insinuating she refused to maintain. The employee also gossiped about this to customers, insinuating the woman brought this up as a way to be flippant and "do it her way." I dared to put my clothes in a dressing room *without her permission* and was also lectured, and as a result got understanding looks from the other customers and accidentally snorted. After I changed, I again heard her gossiping, this time about me, and heard her remark that she "knew what [I] was trying to do" and that I "should be wrapping up soon so all of the negative energy should be out of the store." Whenever I went to check out, I asked if they had a student discount- they do- and she specifically cited needing a valid ID "since people try to get away with this stuff" (a 10% discount). I showed her my university ID, issued in August of 2021, which she then refused to take, citing a lack of date on the ID (my university does not issue new IDs every year). I asked if I could show her my enrollment in the past or upcoming semester, or my university email, and she refused. When I questioned this, she stormed off to the back without responding and a manager came to the front to complete my transaction. As I left, the back door was open, and I, for the second time in under 20 minutes, heard her gossiping about me, complaining about my insistence that I was a current student and an earlier attempt to buy a shirt whose tag had gotten caught in my hair and subsequently torn slightly. Store's prices are fine, slightly high. Better discounts and customer service can be found at the other location in Chattanooga and the Soddy Daisy location.
