I am told that Champion's League teams will only play on grass fields and thus the Timbers were unable to host at the usual PGE park. Merlo Field is a smaller field. The seats didn't seem ideal for watching soccer (or football as the rest of the world calls it). All the seats were really low and it was difficult to see over people. The killer for me was that the vendors don't take credit cards (ok, I didn't go to every single vendor asking). I didn't really realize I would be at U of P tonight, but I would like to think that at a major sporting event I would be able to enjoy snacks without having to make a trip to the ATM. It was a short visit, so I didn't get to fully experience the game day atmosphere, the concessions, or the general operations of the arena. I did get to watch my Arkansas team play in March Madness and a few other games. I sat in the nosebleed section, which was a bit challenging to see the opponents, but the games were still amazing. I attended all four games I could, so I don't have any complaints about that. The atmosphere was incredible. Although the stadium wasn't packed, the passionate fans made it feel like a packed house throughout the entire game. The game day experience was truly exceptional. The seating arrangement was a bit uncomfortable. The 300 seating sections felt like a 30-degree angle, with the seats positioned just a tad too close together, making them feel unsafe. It's as if you can almost feel yourself falling if you The lines for concessions and restrooms were not too long, which was a pleasant surprise. Getting into the arena was also quick. The arena itself appears modern and well-maintained, with no visible signs of wear and tear. Overall, I'm looking forward to visiting the Moda Center again in the future to see NCAA basketball games, professional-level games, or even concerts when I'm in Portland. I'm definitely a fan of this facility.

Anytime with my sister and niece Samantha is a good time. The only bad part is that my sister makes good money and pays for a lot of things Second. Sonic is bomb. I rarely eat there because of location but dang if it ain't good. Like slap your homie good. Third. I love baseball. No matter how late the game goes. Well, I may bow out at inning 24. I've heard of games going longer. This was a great game full of action from both teams. It went past 10:30. Our seats were awesome. Just a few rows back from home plate. Gotta keep an eye out for foul ball going over the net. Fourth. It was the 4th of July. Seriously. A baseball game then fireworks. They lit off near 11:00 pm. but it was well worth the wait. We had a glimpse of the new stadium being built. It looks amazing so far. I can't wait to see a baseball game there. I wonder what they'll do with the soon to be "old stadium?" The Trailblazers were playing Boston (and actually won) just before the puck drop, so the Max was pretty packed. Still better than driving by a long shot. The game was really fun...the first period had two fights...no I am serious, the refs actually let them fight. Usually they come in and break the kids up, but they let them fight. This made my son really happy...he was hoping for this. I gotta admit I was psyked too. I was yelling along with him. The game was really fun. Sadly, the Tri-Cities team tied the game 4-4 with 2.1 seconds left in the 3rd period. Then they pretended like they were playing soccer and rocked the 'Hawks to sleep before blowing by them and scoring the winning goal in Overtime. Oh well. Still super fun and worth the time with my son. #GoHawks

It's an old coliseum (to me it's just an "arena"), but a landmark for Portland. Prior to watching…read morea couple of Portland Winterhawks games, I looked up this venue and saw that it's also registered in the National Register of Historic Places, interesting. This arena opened up in 1960, and at the time was considered the largest civic and technological structure in the Pacific Northwest. Later was renamed Veterans Memorial Coliseum in 2011 as a tribute to the veterans of WWII and the Korean War. Fast-forward to today... ~ Parking ~ Parking within the Rose Quarter, shared with the Moda Center, is my recommendation as to 'where to park'. There are two main parking structures, and both require a pre-paid parking QR code upon entry. If you don't have a QR then good luck turning around. Some hotels nearby have designated parking spaces available as well. Which isn't be too bad of a walk, depending. Unfortunately, both the parking structures and hotels use the ParkWhiz app which can be kinda shady. But my recommendation is to still buy pre-paid parking at the Rose Quarter, even though it can cost between $30-$50. Yeah, ridiculous! And purchase asap as spaces run out fast. There's always street parking too, but that's at your own risk. ~ Venue ~ Yes it definitely seems "dated" here, but I expected it. Well maintained for the most part, I'd say. The outside grounds are still getting a facelift, but inside the place wasn't so bad. No issues getting through Security screening. They even have a 'Toyota priority line' if you own a Toyota. Just show them your keys. The concessions are expensive as usual, but again to me, it's just expected with practically every sporting venue everywhere. Along the windows, there were other food vendors like BBQ, popcorn/candy, and Dippin' Dots. I usually do the venue concessions as they serve local beers. ~ Seating / View ~ For the games, I purchased in Section 16 Row L (blue seats) and Section 61 Row B (red seats). The blue seats in the lower section felt newer and OK. Enough cushioning. The red seats were in the higher section, so I think they were a bit older and slightly more crammed then the blue seats. The ushers were helpful, and the rows had big lettering so you can't miss your row. And I feel the seats were angled nicely too. It's true as some yelpers stated, that 'there really isn't a bad seat in the house'. Except maybe the front row of the higher sections. ~ Restroom ~ Again, this place was built in the 60s, so yeah, it's old and crammed in there. The best time to do your thing is during the game unfortunately as there's less traffic. Always long lines between periods or intermission. Honestly, the place really earns between 3 and 4-stars, but there weren't enough annoying negatives for me. The venue is tolerable as I've been to worse. Prices have gone up big-time! So, I might come back only if I feel prices are fair for a particular event. But overall, it's an oldie but goodie! One last note: I'll upgrade this review to a fifth star, only it their website would highlight: The 1992 Tournament of the Americas was held here, it's the qualifying tournament for the Olympic basketball team which premiered the "Dream Team" playing in their first game together!

Providence Park is one of those venues that justifies its reputation the moment you walk in. We've…read moresat all over the stadium over the years, and it's hard to beat the fieldside seats, although there are a few other options that will still get you solid sightlines. For the lower bowl, try sections 117-119 (midfield) or the first 15 rows of the upper East or West stands, to avoid the overhang affecting your view. The North End supporters sections (101-108, for both the Thorns and the Timbers) are an experience unto themselves if you want to be inside the atmosphere rather than watching it: just know it's standing-only and loud by design. Practical notes before you go: the venue is fully cashless, your match ticket doubles as TriMet fare for up to three hours before and after the game, and the bag policy is strict: clear bags can't be larger than 14"w x 14"h x 6"d, and non-clear bags are limited to 4.5" x 6.5". The easiest move is to skip the bag entirely if you can. Lockers are available outside Gates B, D, and F (via the Droplocker app) for $15 if you need them. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip at least once. It's the kind of venue that makes you a soccer fan even if you weren't one walking in.

Vacated by its A-level minor-league team earlier this year, Hillsboro Ballpark jumped right to the pros and signed a deal with the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) and their new Portland Cascade. This professional league brings ESPN and CBS Sports to town multiple days a week, puts national champion and Olympic players on the field on a nightly basis, and, oh yeah, actually sells out the place. I married into softball (spouse of a scholarship athlete and DII strikeouts leader), so I jumped at the opportunity not to trek to Eugene, Corvallis or Seattle (at least for softball) and watch games here. As it turns out, the previous tenants were underusing the building, if anything. The Cascade came in and immediately rolled in food carts including Mister Tacos, Rosa's Churros, and Papa Murphy's (still not sure how that works) and set up an outpost of The Sports Bra. They also seemed to institute city pricing, as concessions costs look largely in line with what you'd see at restaurants on Imbrie. The gameday experience is even vastly improved. At the pro level, there are still nightly autograph sessions for the kids. Pitchers still give away game balls, and fans are quickly booting stale baseball standbys like "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for the more Cascade-range appropriate "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." And it isn't "a game of fathers and sons": All of Hillsboro is here. Yes, there are still the suns-out-guns-out dads in hunting shirts and Omega Morgan caps, but they're bringing daughters who can do the Hot To Go Dance. There are hair colors beyond brown, black, blonde and grey. There are jerseys, but there are rows of friends dressed for the club. There are rows of friends who were on softball teams in the '70s and '80s, and pairs killing time before karaoke night at HBG. Pride night here wasn't a promotion: It was a vibe. I genuinely used to hate coming to this park because the crowd treated it like a baseball library that required silence and seriousness at nearly all times. The largest crowds were for fireworks and fireworks-adjacent holidays (the 4th, Father's Day), and the whole experience seemed joyless and overlong. If anything, seven innings of the Cascade seems too short, and Cascade management deserves a ton of credit for transforming this mausoleum into someplace memorable and minimizing the amount of time the poor folks in the left field seats spend staring into the sun.
