The Newburgh Mall isn't exactly the place you would find a very good place to eat, enjoy drink and relax but that's exactly what chilitos gives you. We have a great welcoming atmosphere, it's very homey and the service is just out of this world. Very attentive and their friendliness is only outdone by the quality of the food. I haven't had a meal there yet that would make me pause a second. If you like a little bit of spice ask them for the extra hot sauce which comes in a squeezy bottle that definitely gives you a nice scalp sweat. Awesome Margaritas you can get them by the picture as you can get the same option for the sangria. They do make their own in-house tequila so I would recommend you guys give that a shot and if you like it you can even buy a bottle. read more

A bit Americanized menu however the hospitality was definitely latin! Such a sweet server, attentive from start to finish. I wish I remembered his name. We both got a combo that came with an enchilada and a taco, I was expecting a legit street taco but we got a crunchy taco with some shredded chicken. The rice and beans were well flavored. Overall it was good but not memorable the mango margarita however was!!! By the of our meal we were treated with a small shot of pineapple tequile and a banana flauta type of dessert on the house. Good experiences are worth sharing! This past Sunday was my first time trying this place with my family visiting from Colombia. We were blown away with the delicious food, the colorful ambiance and the service was five stars. We also got a couple treats from the house (but you didn't hear that from me!) very friendly here, glad the mall has a great restaurant here. The chilaquiles was very good, cheese was gooey, shrimp was well cooked, the chips underneath was still crunchy under the cheese. Chips were great and i loved salsa very fresh and just the right number of tomatoes, onions and cilantro. The sarape, steak was tender and juicy, green sauce was yummy and i liked the side of rice and wished i had more. overall glad the mall finally has a good resturant taking up the space and really great staff, felt valued and welcomed here. read more

Ambiance is amazing. Very cute, very well themed. Bright colors and nice Mexican music. Makes you feel like you are in old town San Diego or Mexico. Margaritas are a standard Jose Cuervo margarita with 2 shots. They pack a punch but taste is so so. Food is good. They came out with these cute little quesadillas as just a freebie. The chips and salsa were good and food was good. Not the best I've ever had but still very decent. Nachos were very small but tasted good. I'd definitely come again! Price is good. Not super expensive but not as cheap as a hole in the wall. I'd say mid range cost. The only annoying thing was they charge for a second basket of chips. Service was really good. Supisingly good Tex mex, the place is clean and the service is very good. When I'm in the mood for Tex mex that delivers I hit this place. The menu is large with all sorts of great food stuff. You can go wrong by stopping here. Again this is Tex Mex IMHO if you are looking for more upscale Mexican then chapala's is a better choice. I like my different types of Mexican food. Heck there is even a Mexican Bbq place called el sombrero that serves great bbq not far away. read more

I thought I reviewed this place. I did add photos; those will speak volumes. We were in Newburgh to check out the mall. I'm glad we checked out this place, as opposed to some of the other dining options there. One of the better restaurants around. It has a nice atmosphere, but the food is better! The staff is friendly and attentive. They server brought over the expected chips and salsa. Tasty. We started with drinks. I had my Jarritos, I'm the driver, she her margarita. She said it was well balanced. Not too heavy on the juices or a caustic tequila base. Tried the guacamole made table side. Only a couple of places in the City do that. The preparer asks how piquant you'd like it and what ingredients, besides the avocado of course, you'd like in? The selection is there on her cart. It too was very good. Slightly chunky. Not the pureed stuff found around some places or in supermarkets. Our server came back and asked what we would like? He suggested the lunch for 2. Why noWhen it came; it could easily feed 3 or four people! Two servings of moist rice, a tortilla shaped like a bowl for the beans, salad under; 4 XL shrimp wrapped in bacon, a large chicken paillard with its own sauce, two things that resembled bracciole and its own sauce, beef tenderloins with i think cheese on top. Every sauce was different and delicious! We took some of it home. Then desert! A sweet churro with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. When that was done the waiter asked if we wanted to have a shot of tequila "on the house?" She had the "shot" in a small mug. It wasn't rotgut stuff. It tasted like an añejo from a good distillery. Maybe the manager, said they combine it with other flavors. It was worth it. Next time I'm in Newburgh; I will go there again! There's a glass covered, kind of sidewalk dining area, that when the weather is better we'll eat in there. 2/27/19 - came for a second time. Just as good as the first. Didn't order the monster plate. It was just too much. Had the chicken enchilada with mole sauce. Their molé has a more pronounced chocolate flavor than some places. The steak tampiqueno had a delicious sauce accompanying it and an avocado salad. This time we ate in the lower dining room. I walked in today after a stressful morning trying to find shoes that fit (a long tried brand that always worked for me no longer did), I finally found something but it needed to be ordered & would take 1 wk to arrive. I simply wanted to come in, have a cup of coffee, something small to eat & relax. I stopped by to see the shrine in front area of the Lord Jesus & other Christian images after stepping inside place initially, which being a believer I was over the moon about. A lady inside, who had seen me initially step inside, who I later found was the mgr, Melinda immediately jumped out of interior & started accosting me if needed help, I simply said i was admiring the religious icongraphy, I had been in previous wk, had seen the image of the Lord Jesus Christ on an interior door & was thrilled. She then all of a sudden started rat-a-tat rolling off in a nonstop chatter about event space that was available & taking me into the room for event space, w/o taking a breath or even communicating with me if I had anything to say, more barking at me nonstop of all the amenities the restaurant had; she then started rattling off about how the owner painted all the murals & started taking me on a tour of the restaurant showing me all the walls. I neither was interested or inquired about event space or wanted a tour of the restaurant, I simply wanted to come in, relax and have a cup of coffee on a quiet, rainy Monday. I had been in the previous week, there was an issue regarding chips&salsa ordered. The prvs wk they chrged $5.95 pls tx (for a tiny portion), I asked for extra chips as the portion small & extra salsa as I like salsa. The issue was whether the small extra portion they gave would be chrged. The waitress, who was extremely nasty & was same waitress today, overcharged on everything, every extra chips & extra salsa was chrged, I objected saying I was not told that would be an extra order chrged, the barman (also prbly member of the family that owns restaurant) was nice & took 2nd order chrgd off. The way the waitress had chrged, the bill was double what it normally should be. Today again I sat down looking to order the same. This time Melinda, the mgr bought chips&salsa on the house (w/o me ordering off menu), again a v. small portion, again I asked for extra chips & extra salsa, all of which was brought. When Melinda brought the extra chips & salsa she said "The first order (I thought she meant the on-house portion plus small extra I asked for) is on the house, anything after that is charged. To make sure. I pointed at everything on the table (incl extra she brought) & said "This is on the house?", she said yes, the first order, anything after chrged, (not clarifying or saying if she meant the extra chips was the first order or she was counting as a 2nd order). I assumed everything brought to me was still on-the-house order. I ordered coffee, asked if refills were chrged, she said yes (another $3), I ordered a 2nd cup knowing it would be charged, no prblm. When I received the bill it was about $10 over what I expected. Each extra salsa & the extra chips had been chrged as separate orders by self-same nasty, hard attitude waitress. I tried to explain to her how Melinda had brought the order to me & said first order on house, then the waitress become rude, nasty, argumentative. She said "I heard what she said to you, I heard what she said". I said yes I heard it too, I was there and tried to explain I thought the first chips & salsa with the small extra amt of of chips & extra salsa was part of the first on-the-house order, only if I ordered another would I be chrged. (I had also ordered an appetizer which was correct on the bill). She then started saying I remember you from last week when you did the same thing, I told her I remembered her too. Melinda had left and I asked if she would call her. I then went through this with Melinda who then took the same stance as the waitress saying no, she had told me the first order free but anything after (according to her the small amt of extra chips & salsa I ordered) would be charged, she kept insisting in an hard, argumentative way that she had told me that. I then told her the waitress had been rude saying she remembered me from last week, I said yes I came in last week but this would prbly be the last time. I also then told her not to accost ppl re: event space when they're just trying to come in, relax, have a cup of coffee & something to eat. She said that's fine (in a hard & not nice way), the bill still stands, that's fine, this can be your last time. Unbelievably rude, why would you tell me a customer (who had appreciated the food) & has no prblm paying the appetizer & coffee, "this can be the last time you come into the restaurant"- unreal customer service. You want to appease customers to make sure they come back, bring friends & not give a negative reputation. To lose customers over chips&salsa which is usually offered free is just stupidity. read more

My wife and I visited this place for dinner and we were very disappointed at the quality of the food and ridiculous price they were charging for such cheap quality. We don't mind paying $300 for a quality meal but paying $72 at this place really got me upset. We ordered chicken plates and the chicken they use are the same chicken bagels shops use to make sandwiches. Very thin and dry, the lowest grade possible. Cooking wasn't good either. On the thin dry piece of chicken they put chipotle sauce which tasted exactly like the one out of a can. Rice was bad too. We got two different chicken plates and we both didn't even fish half of them. Those plates cost $25 each. For $11 we got an appetizer which was also terrible. We felt like buying 99cent product only paying 10 times more. We won't be revisiting this place forever. read more

I ordered some food for pick up, and my friend picked it up. We both had enchiladas and shared an appetizer. The appetizer was good, and the tortillas that went with it were warm and tasted fresh. Our enchiladas were just ok. I figured that they wouldn't be super hot but I didn't expect to have to pop them in the oven. They were smashed in the container and pretty bland tasting. I know there is a pandemic so I am sure that they are doing the absolute best they can during this time. I am open to trying them again, but will wait til i can go in to eat. read more

Love this place! Met my friends here as a halfway mark between NYC and Connecticut and what a find! Best food and service we could have ever asked for! We all (there was 10 of us) and all really loved everything we ordered (from margaritas, sangrias, fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, enchiladas, even shrimp cocktail!) Service was amazing. Our kids were offered free cheese quesadillas. We were all given some kind of sweet chimichangas, and an after dinner shot of something wonderful I don't even remember the name of! The place doesn't look like much off the side of some Newburgh Mall but we might all drive the hour and a half or so again just to come meet back here again in the future! The guacamole is plain. The food is OK. The margaritas are expensive and not worth it. The salsa is fresh and has good flavor. Not spicy though. She didn't hover, but was always there when we needed her, and was very helpful.
