Stopped at the Chilkoot Trail Outpost and had a wonderful lunch (fresh halibut melt, fresh salmon melt, roasted chicken melt, and beef chili dogs. All were accompanied by delicious baked beans and fresh Cole slaw. The food was very well prepared and nicely presented. We also had their deliciously raspberry sundaes for dessert made with homemade raspberry sauce! (No pictures of dessert because we devoured it so quickly! The owner, Kathy, guarantees her cooking so you know it was really great! Miss Dolly is found in at least 3 locations around the resort! Clean restrooms, excellent friendly service and well-stocked bar. Would definitely recommend this restaurant just outside of Skagway at Mile 7 on Dyea Road)! After lunch we checked out the cabins and grounds and it would be a wonderful place to stay if we were not traveling in our RV! read more

The Chilkoot Trail Outpost is located in the most unlikely of places, just outside the ghost town of Dyea from which tens of thousands of "Stampeders" left to head off on the Chilkoot Trail in pursuit of Klondike gold. My sister and I rented e-bikes in Skagway and were startled when we were told we could have lunch in such a remote location. After biking about 9 miles on paved and then gravel roads, it was a delight to have a halibut melt, homemade cole slaw and baked beans with a glass of white wine. There is a full bar and an added bonus was chatting with hikers coming off the trail. read more

First off, this place is off a dirt road about 30 minutes out of town. With that said it is a great and unique place. You get your own cabin which is fitted with all the essentials (bed,shower,television). Cabins are really cute and quaint. The best part of the experience is the owners. They are so nice. They make breakfast every morning and light a camp fire every night and even supply s'mores ingredients. If you want a unique experience I suggest this place. read more

We rented electric bikes in Skagway and had a beautiful ride along the water to find this gem. The place is the nicest, cleanest log cabin style restaurant I have ever eaten in. We were greeted by the owners themselves and given spectacular and personalized service the entire time. My wife and I both had the halibut melt which was phenomenal and enjoyed a couple of drinks before heading back onto the bikes. read more

STAY AT CHILKOOT TRAIL OUTPOST! This place was awesome. The owners, Kathy and Fred went above and beyond what you would expect from a little group of cabins in the woods. I found this place on accident on my way to Dyea flats and stopped in for a drink and ended up chatting with Kathy the owner and ended up renting one of their cabins for the night and I am so glad I stayed. First: Amazing hospitality. Fred and Kathy will bend over backwards to help people out. After I checked out, I ended up with some car problems on the pot-hole filled Dyea highway and went back to the Outpost, so that I could call my insurance company. Not only did Kathy open up for me after they had turned off the "open" sign for the night, but both her and Fred gave me great advice/ personal recommendations on who I should have fix it - Fred made a call that night and my car was fixed the next day in about 5 minutes and I was able to cancel the insurance claim I had started the night before. AMAZING. Additionally, since they are from the Dyea/ Skagway area - Kathy gave me a wealth of info on all sorts of things that aren't in the guide book - local tips on hiking trails, bears, etc. Second: Free WiFi for guests. If you have ever tried to find WiFi in Skagway, it is almost non-existent (exception being the public library). Dyea, which is even more scenic and off the beaten path - it was amazing that Kathy managed to get WiFi at the Chilkoot Outpost but if you need WiFi, it worked better at the Chilkoot Outpost than anywhere else in downtown Skagway. Third: Cabins are very comfortable and the food is great. Specifically they have Tillamook cheese instead of the crap processed cheese that a lot of the other local restaurants like to use instead. Fourth: I learned a lot from Kathy and she is a very impressive and resourceful individual - she told me that when she built the Chilkoot Outpost, it used to be a garbage dump. She cleaned it up and built the lovely cabins that are on it now - and she did a great job! Semi-related, I also learned that Kathy and Fred want to retire soon and the amazing Chilkoot Outpost is for sale. I just hope that whoever buys it, is as awesome as Kathy and Fred. read more

From Halibut Melts to Chili Dogs everything was perfect. The owners make you feel at home, mainly because you are basically eating on their front porch. It has a down home feel with high class. Just watch out for Dolly in the tub out back, she is a little creepy. read more

This is by far the most wonderful b&b I've stayed at. The owners are incredibly welcoming, the cabins were cozy and clean, and the scenery was beautiful. I couldn't have asked for a better Alaska experience. Both Fred and Kathy are great chefs and can tell you all about the history of the area over a warm meal. There are so many great things about The Chilkoot Outpost, definitely make the effort to get out to Dyea and stay there. read more

I have actually stayed at the Chilkoot Trail Outpost on two occasions, the first in August 2016 for 3 nights and now for 2 nights. Last year it was just my daughter and I. We stayed in a very large cabin which contained 2 large comfortable beds and everything that one could want. This year I am traveling with my daughter and son and we are in a cabin that has 3 beds. The cabins are clean and very well maintained. Last year I asked the owner Kathy if the cabin was new. The cabins are actually 16 years old but you'd never know it because of the way the property is maintained and cared for by owners, Kathy and her husband Fred. The Chilkoot Trail Outpost is located just outside of town in the beautifully scenic Dyea Flats area, also the site of great hiking. Kathy and Fred are great hosts; they treat you like you are a guest in their home. They will educate you on the area and make recommendations. They have a nice dining area on premises and breakfast was included with our room rate and includes scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes and other accompaniments. It is made to order and it is excellent. A special dinner if offered at a very reasonable price. There are two types of fish as well as chicken and steak. You choose two of the above which is served with salad, potato and cold slaw. For dessert, you get all of the fixings for s'mores, which you can make by the camp fire. I have stayed at other places in the Skagway area and this is undoubtedly the best. I would recommend the Chilkoot Trail Outpost without hesitation. read more

We stayed approximately a week at the Chilkoot Trail Outpost. The owners were very hospitable, friendly and helpful beyond expectations. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner as well as meeting new friends around the camp fire in the evenings. This place is an ideal location for hiking the Chilkoot Trail and as home base when visiting downtown Skagway or riding the White Pass Yukon train up to Lake Bennet. read more

What an amazing place! Tucked away in the woods near historical Dyea, this families business is an absolute must stay every time I visit Skagway. The cabins are good sized, with a porch and rocking chair to sip my morning tea on, and the family is so so friendly. The fire pit in the back is perfect after an evening of hiking, especially with one of the B&B's s'mores kit. It's such a relaxing location with all those towering trees and thick, green under growth. It's a tad pricey for a night tho, but an absolute must stay for first timers to Skagway! read more

Best place to stay in the Skagway vicinity. Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful owners. Cabins are clean, warm, private and quiet. Excellent historical resources can be found in the main building (diaries, photos, books, etc.). The famous Chilkoot Trail is within a short walking distance from the cabins, as is the important archaeological site of Dyea, missed by most tourists. The more touristy Skagway Historical Park is a short driving distance away. The owners can give you good advice about what to see and do in the Historical Park. My only regret is that I did not allocate more time to stay at this lodge. I stayed only two nights; I should have stayed at least three. If I ever return to Skagway, I would certainly give preference to staying at the Chilkoot Tail Outpost! read more
