Great products but poor follow up service. I received my beautiful nearly $5,000 walnut dining table February 20. Unfortunately it was damaged during shipment (insufficient packing). The firm selected to make the repairs stated it cannot make it look like new. Chilton refuses to acknowledge that this therefore devalues their product and is unwilling to offer a discount or replacement. read more

It has terrific furniture but annually it is getting more and more expensive. I love the quality and exceptional design. The biggest drawback of shopping or even considering Chilton is the same reason the showroom is usually empty--- everything other than a few chair styles, takes 25 weeks for delivery. So if you're planning your summer and it's April---or the fall arises, guests gone and your ( or me!) want to plan for the holidays ---- that won't fit into the 25 week timetable. So this tends to be a long range delivery and expensive. While the quality is amazing but this is not the Chilton of years ago in terms of inventory or cost. They seem to understand this The store is a virtual catalog or museum. read more

Chilton's a rare store-SOLID wood furniture, amazing construction-but very diverse range of style. Everyone can find their fit. From shaker, to mission, to live edge, to scandinavian inspired original designs-it is impressive. I think everyone should be able to honor their own style without risking it looking out of date-and everything at Chilton's stands the test of time.I did two dining tables in the last year for clients and one was in stock (which is rare for furniture made in the US!!) and one took 10-12 weeks. Both were absolutely gorgeous. Common sense dictates that you call the stores ahead of time if you are wanting to see a specific piece in person (as each store might not have identical inventory) but that applies to pretty much every furniture store. read more

I just purchased a lovely mission coffee table from Chilton. For years, I knew the name from the frequent small ads in the New Yorker magazine. When I decided I needed a new coffee table, I looked there. I went online and found precisely the table I wanted. I learned that each table was crafted by workers in a shop in Maine (or was it Vermont). My cherrywood table would take about six weeks to be built. The folks at Chilton couldn't have been more helpful. I was calling from New Jersey, but Jill Kennedy, who runs the Freeport store, was as nice to me as if we'd been neighbors for years. She would have shipped it directly to me, but I took the opportunity to pick it up as a chance to visit my son who, coincidentally, runs a B&B, "Mercury Inn" in Portland, about 20 minutes from Freeport. My son came with me to collect the table. Jill was not at the store, but the owner of Chilton, Jen Levin, greeted me, and with her staff and my son's help, we loaded the table into my car. She was also kind enough to give me a tour of the showroom. The table is flawless. It's clear that talented craftsman took pride and used their skills in selecting the wood, preparing and building the piece, and finishing it with care. It's a "mission" style coffee table with a mechanism to lift the top up and over my knees to serve as a small dining table- perfect for snacking and watching tv. I know from past experience that the lifting mechanism can be troublesome. This one lifts effortlessly and smoothly. Clearly the craftsmen put the same care into their design and placement of the mechanism as they did with the table, itself. The price was very fair for a handmade, solid wood, made-in-America crafted product. In fact, before asking the price and based on my research, I expected to pay 50 percent more. Summarizing: Beautiful furniture, Wonderful service. Very fair price. Does it get better than that? read more

We love the products available at Chilton. We are even willing to wait the 5 to 6 months for pieces that are made to order. The customer service at the Freeport store, however, is woefully lacking. After placing an order for several pieces, we returned to place a further order. We were in the store for quite a while and no one ever asked if they could help us. All 3 sales people were barricaded behind the desk when we finally had to ask for assistance. The person taking our order was terse and unfriendly. Now I am trying to determine when the order will arrive and when the delivery company will call me. The sales staff could not be more unhelpful. I have never written a YELP review but this company needs to pay attention to its' customer service. They'll take your order but that's about it. read more

The Freeport store has really deteriorated. Went there today; the "opening up the space," to use the surly sales associate's term has left the place looking like a warehouse but with a greatly reduced selection of furniture on display. Neither of the two items we wanted to see were available. We'd have to go to the Scarborough store. Seems that Chilton is becoming indifferent to people who don't live in the Portland area. I was disappointed by the quality of the store and offended by the poor service. read more

The customer service in this place is awful. Our sons were playing around in the store just a bit and the store manager, Jill Kennedy, stormed into the room, fixed some blankets that were slightly askew and stormed out. My son said very sweetly, "Excuse me, excuse me" to try to get here attention while she walked out and she completely ignored him, a 4 year old boy. Avoid this place and their incredibly rude service. read more

Chilton Furniture is an iconic Maine furniture store. I am pleased with their selection and quality. I am especially grateful to see a furniture maker strive to source and craft their products domestically with particular attention to local craftsmen in Maine. Their dining room and bedroom sets are heritage pieces that will be passed from generation to generation. I absolutely love the new live edge lines and repurposed barn wood collections. I look forward to updating the furniture in my home office with some mission pieces from Chilton. The sales staff in Freeport are friendly, professional and let the furniture sell itself. read more

The furniture is both beautiful and well made. We bought a coffee table. Well worth the price. We wish we could afford more. There was a mistake with our order. When we came to pick it up it wasn't the table we ordered. Our hearts sank as we anticipated a fight over whose fault it was and thought we would have to wait another 6 weeks for a new table to be made. But we were happily surprised when they cheerfully offered us the floor model (in perfect shape). We couldn't be happier! read more
