Our visit did come with one disappointment that I hope the museum can help future visitors avoid..... A heads up for Mark Maggiori fans: * My husband and I drove two days from California hoping to see an original Mark Maggiori painting. * The Taos Art Museum is one of the first places that appears on Google when searching for where to view his work in Taos. * The museum's website and Google listing also suggested that his artwork was part of the collection. Unfortunately, after speaking with a docent, we learned that the museum hasn't displayed a Mark Maggiori painting in many years! They then referred us to try Parsons Gallery of the West, but they didn't have any of his work either. The gallery manager explained that Mark Maggiori is now representing himself and is no longer exhibiting locally. I completely understand that exhibitions change over time, but I would kindly encourage the museum to update its website and work with Google to correct this information. It would save other visitors from making a special trip expecting to see artwork that is no longer on display. In the end, I learned I probably should have called ahead, but I also trusted the museum's website and Google's information. Hopefully this review helps the next Mark Maggiori fan avoid the same disappointment. Despite that, the museum itself is well worth visiting. The Fechin House alone is an incredible piece of art and history!

That hike definitely is not for the faint of heart and pushed my limits at the top (you are high and it seems scary) but it is one of my most memorable hikes all around for the scenery and unique experience. A must visit! For those who don't to do the ladder hike, you can still walk to the bottom of it and look up and get a good view. So there is something for all levels here. The scenery is gorgeous. It does get windy here sometimes (we had a lot of wind blasting us as we were climbing the ladders) so be careful and be prepared for that. The nature all around is beautiful. Additionally, there are some tables so you could bring a picnic. Staff in the visitor center is very friendly and has lots of great recommendations of what to do here or nearby. A must do! This was the highlight of my trip to this area and I can't recommend it enough :)

Without a doubt one of the best national parks or monuments I've ever been to! Highly, highly…read morerecommended if you are in the Santa Fe area. A couple notes: 1. Parking looks like it might get tough on busy weekends, mid-week we didn't have an issue early, and but when we left in the early afternoon, the main lot was pretty full. 2. The main Pueblo Loop trail was well maintained and quite accessible up to and just past the Big Kiva and Tyuonyi. The top-back part of the loop was a little more broken up, but still a pretty easy stroll. 3. The trail out to the Alcove House was absolutely beautiful! It's not paved, but it's a well maintained gravel. The ladders to the alcove itself are an interesting experience. If you don't love heights, there are some benches at the bottom of the ladder to sit on and relax. 4. Helpfully, there is a well-maintained pit toilet about halfway out, in case you need it. 5. The restaurant at the visitor center might not be the most efficient place, but the food was much better than you would expect!

Right off the plaza and also connects directly to the Governor's Palace, which you can also visit. It's a very large and sprawling museum. Some rooms have a lot to read and others have sparse explanations. Of course the exhibitions focus on New Mexico. When I visited, they had exhibits on Southwest jewelry, New Mexico stories, southwestern paintings, and one about the railroad. Other exhibits: history of printing presses in New Mexico, along with cool print examples. Another large exhibition they had (Home on the Range) was about how the US government/military seized large swaths of private ranch land from New Mexico ranchers to test war weapons. Some of them never got that land back. I HAD NO IDEA! This lead me to learn more on my own. They have other features on New Mexicans fighting back against the system, such as when three Navajo women defeated the construction of a coal-fired power plant. One of my other favorite exhibits focused on dining in New Mexico. It was set up like a cool 50's diner and played awesome music that made it more fun. Panels covered numerous famous New Mexican dishes and eateries. It was a lot of reading, but worth it. There were several other worthwhile side quests in this museum. Should definitely make it a stop early in your Santa Fe trip to add context and a sense of appreciation to your journey.

The displays are informative and have interactive features on different science subjects they deal with. I enjoyed the earthquake and implosion chair to help you determine the difference between the two. I love the Monte Carlo method prediction station where you predict the joker card and figured out the method was amazing that you forget you're learning lol Playing President in a Cuban Missile Crisis station where you make decisions on how to save America and then see what President Kennedy decided was wonderful. I worked on my Master's Thesis at the Lab, and I would drive up to see this Museum (and nearby Fuller Lodge and Bathtub Row) in a New York Minute. Gayle needed to be convinced, as all she saw was a bunch of school kids at the Fuller Lodge next door. The Museum is to the left if facing the Lodge and we both agreed afterwards that this historical place was well worth the trip. We also took a trip down "Bathtub Row" and believe that Oppenheimer's House was going through a renovation. The Fuller Lodge itself has historical significance, but we both agreed to skip that due to the summer camp crowds.
