I stopped in here last night on a whim because chicken fried rice and soup sounded like exactly what I needed to complete my day. The chicken fried rice contains almost no vegetables, and definitely no egg. Onion is the only thing I can identify other than rice. The soup is oil water with no flavor. The chicken in both is strangely white, and I can't really confirm that it's actually chicken. The owners were nice enough, but I can't attest to their food. I poured and threw it out. Had delivery to our hotel, just a simple order of chicken fried rice, chicken lo-mein and some ribs. Rice was ordinary, lo-mein was tasteless and the ribs were over cooked. So, OK, the food was just ordinary, but what ticked me off was the fact that I asked for 4 plates and 4 plastic cutlery and they charged me a dollar! We are in a hotel and they have seperate charge for utensils. Never had that before!! Cost of doing Business China 1! Came here today and got a plate to take home for lunch. The lunch buffet is about $13. I got a plate with half rice, half lo mein. Not great, but certainly good. There aren't many Chinese options around and we've found some pretty bland ones thus far. Despite the negative reviews, we figured we'd try this one for ourselves. We ordered a few dishes for take-out. Cashew chicken, beef and mushrooms, a large fried rice. Entrees were full of veggies, maybe a little short on meat but overall great portions and came with white rice. As opposed to other restaurants we've tried that were similarly priced, smaller portions that were primarily meat with little or no veggies. Nice to have the other stuff. Sauce in both dishes was good. Food was definitely warmed, seemed more fresh than the "buffet" items looked when I walked in. Ordered online for what was only $1 service fee and it was being bagged as I walked in 20 minutes later. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised and will return. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here. I've lived in Richmond Hill for 12 yrs so I thought I'd try it finally. It was such a let down!! I got the buffet to go and when we tried to pick food half of the meat was gone and they wanted us to pick the leftover vegetables! When I asked for something fresh they told us it'd be an extentuating amount of time so we picked something else.i tried the sweet and sour chicken and it made me choke it was so dry. Staying at a local hotel in the area. I find a menu for China 1 that delivers. Ok, cool. I want chinese food so I place an order. Place the order to find out the credit card machine was down for the day, I must pay cash. I tell them OK, just make sure the delivery guy has change so i can tip, all I have is $20's. OK, no problem. A few minutes later, I called back because I forgot to ask for chopsticks. (for some reason you have to ask... I'd think you'd have to ask for forks and spoons. The lady that answers only says "he on his way" and hangs up on me... I want to know if chopsticks were in the bag.... I call back 4 times, and she hangs up on me all 4 times The last time, the guy shows up at the door, while I'm trying to talk to the lady. He has a M.t Dew, in hand for my free drink... Even when they put out fresh food while we were there it tasted old. My boyfriend got the chicken on a stick and all it was was cartilage and it was red in an unnatural way. It's run by a Chinese couple who take their breaks in front of a Chinese soap opera up on the TV, but the food is about as Americanized as you'll get. I normally like mediocre, Americanized Chinese food, but this was a mediocre execution of the stuff. The usuals are all there. Those disgusting, generic-looking crab puff things with the tiny claw sticking out the top. Crab rangoons. (Who the hell thought cream cheese in a fried wonton would be a good idea?) Rock-hard, and dried-out, barbequed spare ribs. Broccoli with beef, with a dried-out layer on top, having sat on a steam tray for too long. And so on. (Dried-out stuff seems to be a theme here.) Conclusion: I mean, it was edible, and some of it was good. I could've left after I took a look at the buffet, but I stayed. (Then again, this may have been a testament to my laziness.) And I didn't get sick afterward. (Then again, my stomach is made of iron, so, who knows?) As I was leaving, one of the proprietors asked me, in Mandarin, whether I was Chinese (with regard to ethnicity). I answered, in Mandarin, and having totally misheard his question, that I could understand Chinese, though I couldn't really speak it (with regard to language). I ate at this place tonight for dinner and the food was terrible and had a roach in it and it was not hot and also the inside is nasty have one inch dust above the food and also mold on the AC unit and the bathrooms are terrible also. Very rude. The lady at cashier was complaining about our one year old dropped food on the floor. Our three year old dropped a fork twice, so we grabbed a couple more, after we walked out the restaurant, she grabbed the forks we did not use, shook them and yelling at us behind the entry door. Decor was terrible and the set up of the restaurant reminded me of a fast food place. The food was just as bad, if not worse. It tasted like it had been made several days ago and just laid back out. Small little place right off of I-95. Be it, I am a local, have eaten at the buffet several times, everytime I go to the buffet, we always leave unhappy and disappointed, unless you catch that special moment when the food was actually made in the last hour. For the Buffet, I would say, do not eat it. HOWEVER, there is a silver linning to this place. If you order delivery, take out,. or just order the food at the place instead of getting the buffett, the food is actually really good. Every time I order delivery, the food arrives QUICK. I'm saying like within 20 minutes of ordering, the food is always fresh, hot and great!! plus, if you order $15 they give you a soda on the house, and for those days you are ordering for the family, with $30 they give you a box slap full of those great little fried donuts! in summary, place your orders off the menu, and you will enjoy this little chinese place. read more

Decided to give them another try and that was a horrible idea! Before placing my order, I asked if they would chop up the vegetables smaller than the usual 1 inch pieces. A simple request. The person taking the order asked the owner and she stated that would not be a problem. The order was placed, I drove to pick it up and brought it home. When we opened it the vegetables had not been prepared as we had requested. I called to speak to the owner to find out why the order was wrong and she stated that the cook decided that the vegetables would not be good smaller and cooked them as he wanted. When the restaurant owner tells the customer that they will prepare the meal as requested, the customer expectation is that the order will be correct. NOPE! They took it upon themselves to determine how the food should be. She actually stated that it would not taste good with smaller vegetables. This would be like ordering a pepperoni pizza and the cook says "No pepperoni is not what I would like, I'll make them a sausage pizza". I tried repeatedly to talk to the owner but she just continued to yell at me and hang up when I would try to talk. At this point we have had enough.....packed up the food and told her we were coming to return the food for a refund. This was unacceptable. When we arrived with the food, she refused to refund the cost of the meal (~$30) and just continued to yell at us. China 1 management has no regard for what their customer's want and until they are held accountable for their actions it will never change. I will be sure to let everyone I know about this experience and will NEVER purchase anything from them ever again!!! read more
