Let me start by saying this is a neighborhood Chinese carry out that my family and I went to at least once or twice a week. I placed an order tonight and this was my regular order that I place weekly. Well on this night it was ordered but they got the order wrong. So when I called the carry out to let them know. I explained what I ordered and what I received. The owner is a Chinese lady that was always smiles when I would come in. On this day she did not want to talk to me and apologized she sent out an employee to tell me that she was not going to fix the order. So I asked for my money back with resistance. Please be away if you go to this establishment they don't care about you or about the neighborhood that they are in. Ordered 3 meals and some appetizers. Shrimp fried rice only had some salad shrimp-zero vegetables. Daughter ordered curry chicken and thought it tasted like seafood. I like the crab/cream cheese. Probably will not order again and was very quick to get takeout. You do get a lot of food. I might add some vegetables to my leftover fried rice. read more

When I 1st moved here last year it was a good spot, but today it really is horrible. They messed up my order their website it garbage and the food is bland as all hell. When you ask for spicy they don't make it that way. They always seem to messed up orders. I have seen more mad customers there than I have at other Chinese spots in Shelby. Great food. Singapore noodles and honey spicy wings with white rice are both addictions of mine. They might not look like much on the outside but really know how to make the good stuff. The lady at the register is always helpful and they make a point to get orders correct/read everything back to you. Speed is also another plus although during busy times they can get slammed. Omg this food is terrible! Egg roll tasted lIke inside of old shoe and chicken and broccoli, well that wasn't chicken meow meow I had diarrhea for two days. I really love China Express. The food is a big step up from traditional take-out (and the long lines and busy parking lot is a testament to that) and the folks that own it are just the best. Feel free to try more of the authentic Chinese dishes (the Singapore noodles, for example, or Moo Goo Gai Pan) and you'll authentic food. Went back here again recently and while I believe the ownership has changed within the past few years (correct me if I'm wrong) the food was still really, really good. Again, we loved the chicken on a stick and the bourbon chicken. It's a little warm in here but that may be because the kitchen is so close to the main eating area. Takeout may be preferable but, still, the food is good and I can't ask for much more than that. read more

This is our go-to place for chinese and japanese take out in Shelby. The variety is excellent - I can get a hibachi platter with my favorite shrimp sauce, and my husband can get sesame chicken, or chinese vegetable soup. And no matter what we're craving, it's delicious. The people who own and work here are extremely nice. They make the food fast and fresh, and they don't charge a lot for it. I really love this place and eat here often. Their diet menu is my favorite . Especially the Diet Chicken and Shrimp.The Cashew Chicken is good too. Next is their House special fried rice. I always get the large with a dollar extra shrimp. My only complaint (and this is my first one) On their Fried rice with Chicken wings. It tasted great but they're a little short on their wings. I ordered the four wing and they gave two wings cut in half. Consisting of the tip and part with two bones and the drummet. I will continue to eat there but, I might not order that again. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you....this place has the best Chinese food in Shelby. I would recommend eating in, not for the atmosphere, (because that's where they have room for improvement), but because the food is best eaten fresh, fresh, fresh. Try the Hot & Sour soup...it's wonderful. The spicy chicken dishes are highly recommended even by the picky eaters in our home: Kung Pao & Sai Chai are some of our favorites, along with the old stand-by, General Tso's. Garlic Broccoli with extra garlic sauce is another favorite for the Vegan in our bunch, but the meat eaters ask for it, too. Daily lunch specials, of course. Although we have not tried them, the chicken wings seem to be a local favorite. I would love to see this family owned & run business continue to thrive. The Chef makes magical things happen in his Wok, while the woman who keeps him going makes you feel right at home in the relaxed atmosphere. I really, really, really wanted to like this place because of how friendly the staff was...but after giving them 3 chances, I cannot. Anything fried had a bitter taste that only comes from using old frying oil, the rice they use seems to be a sub-par brand full of broken grains-which end up resembling the texture of couscous, very bland flavors, and any vegetable I ever ordered had been cooked so much and/or held for so long that they had the consistency of baby food-like mush. Okay, while not much to look at on the outside and the inside is rather quaint and small. The food is spectacular. You can dine-in or get it take out, the only way this place gets any better is if they start delivering. We got the Beef and Broccoli with white rice and the General's Chicken with fried rice. My wife also got an egg roll. Everything had outstanding flavor. My wife said the egg roll was crunchy and delicious. The General's Chicken was spicy and loaded with flavor. The Beef and Broccoli can stand against all Beef and Broccoli that I've had elsewhere and probably come out on top. It can be true what they say about Hole in the Wall establishments having the best food. We shall be making this a staple in our restaurants of choice while in the Shelby, NC area. They even have online ordering, which is completely easy to use. If you haven't tried this place yet, do yourself a favor and phone or go online and order your take out and just enjoy this gem of a place. read more

Awful. Dry hard rice. Dry eggroll, that was fried it appears hours before I bought it. No greeting from either of the two women there when we walked in. Dirty table, baseboards, walls. I dont know why I didnt turn and run. read more
