Tai Pan China Cafe in Mattawa is one of these places. We always like to start with a Won Ton soup. It seems to be the best measure of how much a restaurant puts into their cooking. Called Wong Ton soup at Tai Pan you will get a piping hot bowl of delicious broth with about four won tons. It is an obviously home made soup. With lots of chopped green onion and special ingredient chopped lettuce. This soup pulled up the rating of everything else. We also each had an egg roll, and shared a BBQ Pork fried rice, Hunan Beef and General Tao Chicken. We were asked if we wanted medium heat or hot. My wife answered medium. We should have ordered hot, it was a little bland for our tastes. But they were both good with lots of meat in each dish. The service was excellent, the woman serving us was in constant motion. They were making a lot of take out orders (on a Sunday night). The restaurant is old and worn but overall seemed pretty clean.
