If you are looking for a restaurant to sit down in, do not go here. The service staff seemed to be annoyed, likely the teen children of the owner. She didn't like that we were planning to sit in the restaurant even though there were tables and chairs. The food was literally dropped in to-go boxes on our table. They didn't provide plates without being asked and then you get paper. They pointed at the plastic ware for utensils. The food was mediocre at best. Will not dine here again. read more

Got 2 orders of house/special fried rice and was really disappointed... you would think when paying for the house/special fried rice with 3 meats you would actually get some meat, not the case. Also it's sad that bean sprouts and egg have been eliminated from fried rice. Basically you're paying $$ for rice these days. read more

We just moved to st James and I needed something to feed the kids for lunch. I tried this place yesterday and was impressed with the quality. When I went in to order I was also impressed on how clean it was. The young man that took my order was very kind and when I realized I had ordered and already paid for the fried wontons when what I really wanted was the crab Rangoon he was willing to change the order for me (I just ordered the Rangoon extra) also they offer the lunch specials on Saturdays which I also thought was nice! I judge all Chinese take out on their egg drop soup and it did not disappoint! Lots of egg white and really thick yellow broth-- it's the best I've had in a long time. I was surprised to find such fresh and flavorful food off the highway in a rural area. The portions were large and the service friendly and very fast. Is it as good as a Chinatown restaurant in a major metropolitan center? No. But, it hit the spot. The shrimps were a good size and not overcooked. The brown sauce that housed the shrimp dish, as well as the broccoli and snow peas, was typical American fare. Although the shrimps were supposed to be Hunan style, they didn't resemble any type of Hunan cuisine I've had previously. This place is rude....I ordered online it said my order was successfully placed. When I go to pick it up they told me card was declined. I had high hopes with others glowing reviews and when we walked in, everyone was cleaning. The place was spotless, even the bathrooms. Unfortunately I can only recommend the food if you are very poor and very hungry. The portions are huge but to anyone other than the starved or desperate college student, disappointing. We should have known better when we noticed all the condiments were in packets and the only forks were plastic. The crab rangoon was sweet. Everyone knows that the sweet coconut masks a lack of crab but this has almost no crab nor even coconut. It tasted like a salty cheesecake filling. The Entree was adequate but the chicken was far more tender than the beef. The hot and sour soup was an awful joke. Single handedly put this review from a 2.5 to 1 star. The "Hot and Sour" was an abomination birthed of weak egg drop soup and Louisiana hot sauce. I have never had the experience of anger over a soup before tonight. It didn't help my disposition that this is my favorite dish at any good Chinese Restaurant. Maybe I got my hopes a little high up because of the other gems we've found threw Yelp, even in the sticks as we are, but this is everything we'd expect from a cheap rural strip mall chinese take out. read more

I love this place. We order take out here once a week. Their almond chicken is soooo good and has lots of crunchy celery and toasted almonds. The veggies are always fresh. I've tried the orange chicken and that too is amazing. Nice spice to it and real orange is used (imagine that!) in the dish! The egg drop soup is excellent and comforting if you feel kind of crummy. This is more of a 4.4 review, I really like the interior of China King in St. James. It is very simple yet very clean and pleasant to look at. The pricing is amazing at 9 dollars you get enough food for 2 very hungry people. The presentation of the General Chicken is elegant with the inclusion of broccoli to balance out the colour of the sauce and meat. The sauce itself could use some more spice in it to make it have a better kick to it. The rice is not fried and is well made white rice which I find as a good alternative to fried rice many other areas serve with their General Chicken. The service is very kind and humble, it isn't a very large restaurant but it has its family feel to it. I suggest going here if you are looking for cheap but very delicious food with a homey feel. read more
