    Crab ragoon
    Katie B.

The best Chinese food in northern Indiana. The hot and sour soup is delicious. The crab ragoon doesn't have the sugar/sweetness that so many other Chinese restaurants put in theirs. The spicy mustard and sweet and sour sauce for it were the perfect topping to the ragoon! The green beans had a good kick to them without being too spicy. Almond chicken had actual fresh meat white chicken and didn't taste like chewy fake meat like so many others. They don't cook with MSG and everything tastes like authentic Chinese food. The service was quick and friendly and the owners are incredibly kind and friendly people. Large portions and great prices. I took home leftovers and had another meal! The only bad thing about it is that it's not closer to my house!

Just like Joshua below, I just called and they told me they did not deliver so I went elsewhere. Can't comment on food or service.

I've wanted to try the Hainan House for years. I've read their good reviews and made it a must…read moretry. I will say that these reviews led me to believe that the Hainan House provided a premium-gourmet product like Han Dynasty and Wu's Chinese. Hainan isn't in that top tier where the product WOWS you. But rather, Hainan is in that next tier down where some things are better than others. I ordered take out versus dinning in. The two elderly employees I interfaced with were very kind and helpful. The facility is easy to find as it is in the same complex as The Clyde. The building is older, in good repair and nicely decorated with Chinese decor (see pictures). Parking surrounds the building in an awkward manner - you will figure it out. The menu is very large (see pictures) as it is at most Chinese restaurants. Prices were fairly reasonable. My order was prepared quickly..so no waiting! The fried pot stickers were fairly standard compared with other Chinese restaurants. Not over cooked. Slightly oily. Tender wrapper and pork insides. It came with a dip that added flavor and moisture. The General Tso's sauce was very tasty. It was moderately thick, slightly sweet, a little spicy and stuck to the breading nicely. Nice taste without being sappy sweet or spicy hot! The chicken pieces were larger than bite size. This made it difficult to eat as I had to cut each piece into small enough pieces to eat with the rice. I found the chicken to be somewhat over cooked and slightly tough. The breading was thick and absorbed the seasoned sauce taste perfectly. The Happy Family sauce was very bland. It coated the meat and vegetables nicely keeping them moist. However it really didn't do much to accent these items. The vegetables were nicely cooked with a slight crisp. I was disappointed in the amount of meat placed in this dish. It felt like I was lucky to get more than one piece of each seafood item. These meats were cooked to expectation - moist and tender. Overall this dish was bland and didn't impress. The white rice was cooked to expectation. Slightly moist. It was easy to pick up with the entree bites. Overall, make sure you understand the product you are getting. I expected a premium product which disappointed me. I might have a different rating if I dined in and selected items that fit the "next tier" level of taste.

There was one older woman at the cash register who was to seat guests, take money, get the to orders taken care of and answer the phone. The latter due to the volume of takeout orders took precedence over seating people standing in line who were ignored and there were empty tables. After almost 40 minutes of standing and a group of 8 who had reservations that the restaurant wasn't set up for-it was a mess and a bad experience for them...we were seated. We weren't waited on for awhile as there were only two people waiting tables bringing out one dish at a time to the tables. They put out a bowl of rice that sat before their food came. Customers were angry and two stood and complained loudly at the service...a woman waiting for carry out was there for two hours! We received our bland food, cold appetizers after 8pm. Some customers waited and then got up and left before their meals arrived. They ended up setting the party of 8 by the entrance door and bathroom...I'm not sure if my family would be returning or not when they are empty of customers. Our waiter kept complaining that the customers were complaining to us...

We parked in a near parking lot and pigged out! Everything was piping hot and we had to wait a bit to eat. My Crab Rangoon, egg roll, and chicken wings were very good. Each crispy and delicious. Service was fast and pleasant. The window attendant showed us the receipt to make sure we approved it and it was accurate! They provided us with packets of hot sauce, soy and sweet and sour sauces and ample napkins! We look forward to visiting them soon and sampling other dishes.

It had shredded chicken in it so fine, it was hard to tell that it was Chicken, I am sure it was added for substance. I found 3 mushroom's that I could identify and the rest was so chopped up that it was hard to identify that they were mushrooms. There was one other ingredient that I saw and it was 2 wilted dark slices of green onion. The Hot Sour Soup was very watery, there was no thickening and the Soup had no flavor. I called the Manager to alert her to the Watery Soup flavorless soup, thinking she might like to know, and all she could do was argue with me and say that they had the best Hot Sour Soup and everybody loves their Soup. I would suggest if you really are hungry for and like a genuine Hot Sour Soup don't get it there. The rest of our order just seemed to be marginal at best, it could have been the bad experience we had with the Soup.
