In looking for some "decent" Chinese food in Middletown, we found China Star. It's a little more of a drive for us but, definitely worth the extra 10 minutes. We ordered combo platters of chicken and broccoli and pepper steak with onion. Both were very good. The egg rolls are crispy and not overly greasy. Hubby also ordered bbq beef sticks which he enjoyed. The gentleman behind the counter was pleasant, service was quick. There is no place to eat in, it's pretty much take out only. The only area I'd say could use improvement is the entree and fried rice are a little disproportional - they're very heavy handed on the rice side. Other than that, the food was prepared well, tasty and again, definitely worth the additional 10 minute drive for us. This has been the best Chinese food we've had in Middletown. read more

***FRAUD ALERT*** Make sure you check your order and price you are paying. Business consistently will charge you an additional dollar to couple dollars hoping you won't notice or complain. When challenged the employee immediately fixes the price and doesn't even argue, so you know they're just trying to get away with it. Sometimes they'll try to make excuses that they added extra items. BUYER BEWARE. Crab Rangoon- I never had worse ever before.. it was like cheese ? Like melted cheese. I know what crab Rangoons texture is suppose to be and that was just completely off. Pan fried dumplings- I was just completely thrown off as soon as I opened the container. They were like bread or something like a thick dough with a disturbing looking meat on the inside. Just not appetizing. The sesame chicken was the only reason I have it 2 stars. Should of gave it 1. Won't be back and don't recommend. read more

Prices have jumped a few times since they've opened back up. They've also been cutting back on the portions, but that's happening with a lot of restaurants because of rising prices. However, the quality and flavor is disappointingly inconsistent. The dishes taste VERY different depending on who is cooking that day. Some days it's delicious, other days it's just mediocre. Disappointing to see a favorite place slip out of the regular rotation. read more

Even after I called back to add more items to my order he confirmed my order & still my order was missing. This place is located in the plaza with the Post office on 211. It's the normal Chinese food setting, mostly set up for pick up, but with a few tables. They haven't messed up an order and the food has been good. When I asked for the wings and they were out they offered me an option and explained the difference with no confusion. It was our first time going to China Star. We had a take-out order and unfortunately I did not do a 100% inventory. I think the majority of local Chinese restaurants are owned by the same family as there are too many similarities across the board. The egg rolls are all identical and taste the same all over town, as well as being smaller. Overall the food was pretty good. We had two appetizers, pan-fried dumplings, and crab rangoon. Both were pretty good however, they had forgotten the dipping sauces for both. It is nice that they let you pick your condiments by the number you actually want and are going to use. It doesn't look like so many like the fortune cookie as they were not in the bag. We will try again but will have to do a complete inventory before leaving. read more

Ordered out from here tonight because my normal Chinese place is closed on mondays.. not impressed at all. The soup is bland, my fiancé's chicken had a hair in it and tbh the amount of sauce and noodles they give on the side for the meals is about a 1/3rd of what our normal place gives. I stopped in on my way home to this little takeout which is pretty busy. That's always a good sign right? I order, I wait 20 minutes. I watch many people come in and out. They are efficient here for such a small space. I get my order & leave. Beef with string beans combo, pepper steak combo, and a large boneless spareribs. Except I leave thinking everything is in order. I get home and the containers for the combo were larger than the boneless spare rib container. At first I think I have the wrong order. I have a very small round container. I open it. It looks like some sliced pork roast in a sauce not the same as boneless spareribs. Gordon Ramsey would look at this and say.... insert here. Well, I've got to rate this right?? It smells appealing and has flavor but it is not boneless spareribs nor, was that small container in any way worth $10.70!! The rest of the food was adequate, even tasty, although we have that flavorless yellow fried rice thing going on here too. What's up with the yellow tasteless fried rice? Compared to other Chinese this isn't too bad. Just don't waste good money on the boneless spareribs! read more

Decent Chinese food for the area. The sesame chicken sauce is a bit snotty looking in texture but despite that it's pretty good. They are quick to make the food and attentive to custom orders. A once great Chinese takeout has made a downturn for the worse. We ordered several takeout meals yesterday and 2 of three people who ate their choices are now not feeling well and I'm ok, but just not feeling 100% either. Their prices also increased during this downturn as well. We have just made the choice to no longer eat from here with another takeout a short distance away. Doesn't deserve a star, I ordered General Tso's from this restaurant and 60-70% of it are tiny bits of flour w/ no chicken inside it. They mixed it with the whole bunch in order not to get notice. I complained just to let them know that this practice is just unfair to customers. They keep saying theres chicken inside even if i did cut it in half in front of them just to show them that theres not a single piece of chicken inside. Didn't even offer anything just to compensate a customer. What is 5-10$ right? Would your rip off your fellow hard working humans for 5.50$? Im hoping for other people to watch out so theres change. This is definitely the best chinese place in Middletown. My family has been going here for years...at least 10 or 15 years. The food has been consistently delicious. If you have a food allergy, they have also been very good at trying to accommodate. My husband always gets the garlic chicken (he LOVES it), and I vary it up with moo goo gai pan, steamed dumplings, general tsos chicken, and chicken mai fun. Food is always yummy!! read more

This is my local "go-to" Chinese resto. It's just down the road from our house. It's your typical take out restaurant. They don't have anything out of the norm just your typical stuff. They have different cooks on different nights and the difference in the taste of the food is discernible.
