It was my birthday yesterday so I went off my diet and got the boneless spareribs combo. The ribs were half fat, like warm, not at all fully cooked and the rice was not fully cooked and didn't even taste liked fried rice. I was so disappointed. My arthritic knees have been killing me ever since. I know pork is bad for them , but in the past when I got this once in a while it never bothered them. We ordered beef lo mein, egg drop soup and a 12-count crab Rangoons. Let me start off with the the lo mein; The carrots were not done and the cabbage tasted off as well as beef, I couldn't figure out what it tasted like. I took maybe four or five bites to make sure I didn't like it, then I went up to the counter and asked if they could refund it. That was not an option so I asked if they could replace it with something. I didn't know what I wanted so I just ordered plain lo mein noodles I then took about four bites of that, and it started to make me sick. The noodles did not taste like any other lo mein noodles I have ever had and they were very oily, with no flavor. The egg drop soup tasted watered down and had a lack of flavor. A couple days ago we were doing laundry a couple doors down from the restaurant. We decided to enjoy some egg rolls while we waited. After making our order, he proceeded to the curb out front. He left the door wide open while smoking a cigarette, leaving smoke billowing into the store. After he was done, he went directly to the grill & started cooking food without washing his hands. I'm a type one diabetic and really needed to pee, I even offered to pay for something to use the restroom and he told me customer only and I said yah I'm gong to pay for something sir and I asked him for a drink but he said its going to be $5 even the drink fridge said it's $1.50 so I walked away and sent my man in, and the worker was extremely friendly to him and only charged him $1.50 to use the restroom, buddy looked real mad when I walked in. I'm honestly so disappointed especially after I told the man that I have an auto immune disease and even offered to pay for something. I also noticed how unclean this place was and no gloves in sight, I will be reporting to the health department sorry but this business deserves this. I have been ordering takeout from China Taste for over 20 years. When I went to pick up my last order, this restaurant had been sold. The people working there were very rude, the food was horrible, and prices had nearly doubled. I purchased a can of coke while I waited and even the soda had gone up in price from $1 to $1.80 . Such a disappointment because altho there are several of these little takeout places in Pinellas County, my family preferred this location. Other places we've tried have served food that was horribly greasy, or the lo-mein noodles would be stuck in a thick clump. I've been to many American Chinese places, and I've certainly had pepper steak and onion at a few of them. They all have their meat and vegetables cut up into strip slices. Not this place. I admit, being Chinese, I'm picky about Chinese food, so I never go to any Chinese take out places, because I know the food just won't taste like home to me. However, in this little town with no real Chinese restaurant, this place, owned by a family from Fujian, is not bad at all. Service is very friendly and food comes out fast, tastes fresh and are not overly salty nor sweet. Their Singaporean noodle is my favorite, on the moist side but I won't discuss wok-chi at a take out place. Also love the tofu which is so tender. My friend is a fan of their shrimp and broccoli. The place is actually quite big, with about 4 tables for dine in, and looks clean. The food still doesn't taste like home, but heck, I've seen a lot worse. read more

Although the takeout menu mentions "All Dishes Prepared From Fresh Ingredients" there were not many ingredients to judge from in my Pork Egg Foo Young combo, other than rice and egg. A detailed search found around 15 tiny pieces of pork hiding in the Pork Fried Rice", but there seemed to literally none to be found in the "Pork Egg Foo Young". Although in other takeout experiences I have had to wait after I get home for the egg roll to be cool enough to eat, the egg roll was tough and barely body temperature-old in my opinion. Then there's the counter ambience-wall to wall plexiglass (bullet-proof?) panels with a crude plywood box extended towards the customer within which to transact his business. Is that what "New York Style" is ? What are they afraid of "in there"? I hope that those trying "Chinese Food" for the first time, and who would unfortunately choose China Taste for that event, do not swear to never have "Chinese Food" again. read more

This place is not very good. I gave two stars because I have only been here twice and ordered the same thing both times, hoping that the first was just a bad day. I was wrong. The rice is not soft and tastes like plastic. Seems like they just used minute rice or something cheap. The honey chicken, both times, just tastes like they fried the chicken and forgot to put the sauce on. It had little to nothing on it. I will never come back here again. read more

I have no idea what these other reviewers had eaten there, but I am from New York and this place is the only place in the Clearwater area that actually comes the closest, maybe even spot on with its food. I had the Sesame Chicken and General Tao's Chicken and they were AWESOME! The sauce, quality of chicken, everything!! Stopped in on a weekend night to China Taste, which is just a stone's throw off of Hwy 19 N. The interior is common Chinese takeout, very bright and clean, with ~6 tables. The menu is typical of most area takeouts in the area, with a notable exception being a house specialty of roast duck & broccoli with snow peas, water chestnuts, corn, Chinese vegetables, mushrooms, red carrots and bamboo shoots. Order taking was quick in spite of many phone orders that were coming in on this weekend night. I ordered chicken and broccoli with chicken fried rice and egg roll, and it was served up about 5 minutes later....lightning fast, in my experience. The egg roll was quite good, with lots of vegetable flavor, a nice crisp exterior and not greasy at all. The rice was a mixed bag. I loved the texture of the rice...a good texture with short grains that didn't stick together, with a mixture of carrots/peas/onions throughout. The downside was the rice was bland, even though it had a yellowish cast indicating there had been some attempt to kick in some extra taste. And while I appreciated that the rice wasn't coated with so much sauce the rice simply clumps (as many Chinese takeouts seem to do), unfortunately there was just a lack of flavor for my tastes. The chicken & broccoli was another mixed result, with both of those ingredients having very fresh flavors. The downside was the sauce seemed to be one dimensional, with only a single, distinct spice/herb flavor I couldn't place. Almost all takeouts where I've eaten chicken & broccoli they use a similar brown sauce (soy sauce based, often mixed with oyster or hoisin sauce). In my opinion a great Chinese sauce usually hits multiple notes of the five basic flavors (sweet, bitterness, sour, salty, and umami). This sauce was reddish, had no soy/oyster/hoisin flavor, and unfortunately, I wasn't wowed by that single spice/herb flavor. It certainly didn't taste bad, it just didn't taste complete....as if some things were missing. Halfway through the dish I was jonesing for my favorite bottle of sauce from home. Given the fresh ingredients that were well-cooked, I won't be surprised if when I return there may be another dish that hits the spot for me. I'll update my review on my next visit. Please don't eat here! Ordered shrimp with broccoli and when I started to eat the shrimp they were like mush in the inside and the overall taste was sour. In fear of getting food poisoning I could not eat my dinner. We immediately called to let them know and quite honestly was shocked over how rude we were treated. The woman offered 2 egg rolls the next time we would order. I explained it was too hard to get there and back due to a disability. When she refused to issue a refund I mentioned I would be sure to write a review of our experience she laughed and said go right ahead! Wow! $10.25 in the garbage and no dinner! Very Disappointing! This chinese food is great. Their portion sizes are very large. I am a vegetarian and they always make my special requests for extra broccoli. The wait time is never longer than 10-15 mins. The restaurant is very clean and the girl at the counter is always friendly. They do deliver if your order is over $15. I don't know what has happened to this place but the food is awful. It was really tasty and on point a year ago but has rapidly gone down hill. I ordered a Szechuan chicken combo meal for take-out and it was tasteless. Bland, bland, bland. I've had Szechuan before in many places including NYC and it generally is very spicy and brings perspiration to my forehead. This one was bland without a single chili pepper in the whole meal. The fried rice was very dry and seemed old. I've had Cantonese with more flavor. They advertise "New York Style" but I doubt anyone there has ever been to NYC, much less Beijing. There was a time when I highly recommended this place but, no more. My wife ordered sweet and sour chicken and found her chicken very soggy and the sauce on the side very cold. She wouldn't order from this place again. Our egg rolls were cooked in old oil and were tasteless as well. The only item on their menu still worth ordering is their hot and sour soup. It still has lots of flavor and is worth the price. Everything else, meh.
