I am never one to say no to Chinese food, I've tried plenty of Chinese restaurants before. Today I ordered coconut shrimp, hot spicy shrimp combo and cheese wontons. I was not pleased, first the "spicy shrimp " is not spicy at all, it's loaded with about one full onion (as pictured) when your living in the south of Louisiana spicy means spicy and that was something I would give to a kid, the egg roll that came with it was bland. What I did like, was the coconut shrimp and the cheese wontons, they weren't the best, but definitely better than anything else I ordered. Over all I would drive the extra 5 Miles to another Chinese take out before I order from China wok again. I recommend China wok to someone who is not looking for that much flavor and wanting more of no seasoning. read more

So I decide to give China Wok a try since I was in the area. Well the guy working at the counter really didn't seem like he was interested in helping me or even wanted me in the restaurant. So since he didn't have an interest in serving me I have no interest in eating here. Only reason I gave them a rating is because Yelp requires that you give one. The food was pretty bad. It was definitely frozen at some point and tasted like it had been cooked a long time ago. The chicken that was heavily breaded and fried was mediocre because you couldn't taste the chicken amidst all the sauce and breading, but the grilled chicken had clearly underwent some sort of terrible tragedy. I've searched for some good shrimp fried rice for so long in Lafayette, and I finally found it here!!! They have very dependable shrimp fried rice. I add 2 eggs to mine for around $1, and it tastes delicious. They come in two sizes (small and large, both under $10 ... and honestly the small is pretty big and fulfilling on its own). Also love the fact that you can order on the phone for pick-up, or you can have it delivered to your address in the Lafayette area. ________ UPDATE: I came here on a weekend night. I could tell the phone orders were super crazy, because the cashier could barely do anything without the phone constantly ringing. I ordered the shrimp fried rice as usual ... however this time, it was SOAKED with so much grease that I literally got sick the next day. It was horrible. So now I am paranoid about this place, which I hate because I really thought this would be my "go-to" place for dependable shrimp fried rice. UGH, NOW I'M DEPRESSED!! I'm a new resident of Lafayette and asked work friends what the best Chinese was. Most people were college age and voted for this place and one other. I was nervous because of the reviews, but decided to give it a shot and ordered the all day lunch General Tso's with fried rice, which also came with an egg roll for only $8 and some change. I was pleasantly surprised that I could order online and it was ready by the time I got there, which was less than 10min. I'm definitely not mad at it and will certainly be coming back. I also enjoyed the option of controlling the "spice" level. Also a perk was the quality plastic take out containers that I'll certainly be using for other leftovers. read more

I am writing a five star update for China Wok as I've eaten there at least ten times since my last review and everything I've had here is fresh, hot and delicious. I am also calling BS on the review from Dana below. I showed it to Jenny, the owner of the place, and she told me that she remembered that girl. Jenny said the girl ordered on the internet and there was something wrong with her credit card. Jenny tried to call her several times, but there was no answer. Finally she got Dana on the phone and told he that by now her food was cold but they could remake her order. Dana gave her attitude and said they'd already eaten. Also, its apparent that since Dana has only one review, that she joined Yelp for the sole purpose of bashing China Wok. I do not consider this to be a valid use of Yelp and may even violate their TOS. read more

Chinese food is usually the same thing over and over. It tastes the same, looks the same, the list goes on and on. The food at China Wok is presented differently in sturdy plates. They have never missed adding utensils. The food itself is great. They have a very large menu and the food is always fresh and hot. Not to mention their Hot and Sour soup is the best in Lafayette that I have tasted thus far! Since moving to Lafayette from New Orleans, I've had a hard time getting my Chinese food fix. Tonight I tried China Wok, a small take out place in a strip mall just off Congress St. near Bertrand. The parking lot was almost full, since Fast Eddie's Pool Hall is next door. Once parked and inside, I was able to browse the picture menu located above the cashier. A friendly clerk appeared and I ordered (to go) the beef with peppers combination dinner, something I consider a basic and simple dish. My order was made promptly and I was on my way within ten minutes. The food was fresh and tasty, neatly packed, and the serving was plentiful.. it took two sittings to eat the entire plate. The egg-roll was flavorful, as was the fried rice. The beef was tender and there were just the right proportions of beef, peppers, and onion. There are a half dozen tables or so for those who want to dine in, but I'm pretty sure their main business is take out and delivery. It was clean, nicely priced, and fast. The food is consistently good, and they deliver for half the fee of Waitr. I like their Kung Pao Chicken and Hot and Sour soup. My main complaint is that I have to add red pepper flakes to most of their "hot" dishes because even though I order extra spicy, the food is not very spicy. read more

Best Chinese food I've had in a long time delivered to the comfort of my own dorm room. After a cold and rainy UL football game, a friend and I were left starving with no food joints open on campus so we hunted down any decent delivery restaurants in the area. China Wok popped up and so we gave it a chance. The language barrier made ordering difficult but the food was here within 30 minutes. I ordered the Orange Chicken w/ Lo Mien and my friend got the Sweet & Sour Chicken w/ Shrimp Fried Rice and w got an egg roll thrown in for free. I LOVED mine, and only got through half of it. Worst experience ever. Maybe it's partially my fault for ordering online, so if you ever decide you want to order take-out, DO NOT use the online ordering. I placed an order online for delivery about 6:00p.m. Around 45 minutes later, I hadn't heard anything other than a confirmation of my order via email, so I called to make sure they got the order. When I called, it was clear that the woman answering was taking like 3 calls at once. I was put on hold while she took orders on other lines and I could still hear her. I asked her if my order came through and gave her the address. She said it was on the way. That was a little before 7:00. Finally, at 8:30 I decided to make dinner for my family myself, as I doubted they had ever really gotten the order. So my husband called again just to find out what the deal was. They told him they had tried to call us several times, as there was an issue with the credit card. When he told them I spoke to them and they said it was "on the way", they said I must have called the wrong number! And I guess the "wrong number" also answers "China Wok" and tells the wrong number callers that their orders are on the way. Needless to say, my phone never rang during the entire 2.5 hours we were waiting. Just to make sure I'm not crazy, I checked the email confirmation of the online order and guess what? I had entered the correct phone number....and they had never called it! They are liars and have no customer service skills if they are going to say we called the wrong number! DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM. Maybe if you go in to eat, the service is better. I can only hope so for your sake. Again, maybe the online ordering part was my fault, but nothing else was. I called them after waiting an hour thinking it was busy and thats why it was delayed. They told me 20 minutes and thats fine. Nasty food!!! Ordered moo goo gai pan. I know it's misspelled. The fried rice was great. The other was slimy. I mean the thinly sliced chicken seemed to have been blanched in boiling water and mixed with a clear slimy sauce and very little vegetables. The chicken seemed to not have been fully cooked!!!
