I really did not have much hope for the food based on the young man taking the order! He has the personality of a plastic fork. He looked at me in disgust when I explained it was our first time there, then when I asked if the had a diet drink he pointed to a sparsely stocked refrigerator with mainly two liter bottles. Ok so we get past his obvious disdain for me, I took the food and my wife and I tried every dish on the way home! I really expected to be giving this place a one, but the cooks saved the day. Everything was perfect and quite good. Each dish had a wonderful taste and the sauces they used were spot on. So if you can get past Mr. congeniality you will love this place. read more

Food was just ok, the problem I had was I was served a very rotten black and slimy baked potatoe inside with my meal, when I went to put my butter and sour cream in and it was already sliced in middle from the cooks and opened it wider to a really horrible smell and like I said in the beginning badly rotten, me andy girlfriends were shocked and got the waiter over and showed what was served said how do the cooks not notice a sliced potato this rotten, he was very polite said he was so sorry and asked if I would like another potato or something else to replace it of course I didn't was another one so ordered mashed potatoes and gravy, took awhile to get back and was already almost done by then he said I'm sorry for delay and took the potato off my receipt, kiddos to the waiter cooks on the other hand back when we went need to make sure food is not bad before it goes out. read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant hands down! They are very nice and friendly! Every order is made to order, so it's always steaming hot! The crab Rangoons are a must try! Never had any others that compare! Soooo good! The lobby isn't fancy or nice to look at! But it's a carry out place! read more

My friend loves Chinese food & China Wok. Her birthday is 4/12. I ordered a gift certificate for her late on 4/10 by phone from China Wok, assuming it would be mailed and arrive late. I told her to watch her mail for a late gift. Instead of mailing the gift, a member of the China Wok staff hand-delivered my gift to my friend's house ON HER BIRTHDAY! I visited China Wok with the recommendation of a good friend. I still have the friend, but no desire to make a return visit to this establishment. I am a vegan and was pleased that they offer options for me, but the tofu was the consistency and texture of paper mache paste. The steamed vegetables were edible, however. My partner's sesame chicken was over-fried and the sauce was gummy. Our friends who joined us for our meal, who are regulars and recommended China Wok also commented on the suspect dishes. The service was FAST, however. Usually that is a good thing. Tonight they could have used a bit more time and effort, and perhaps some TLC. read more

I eat at the China Wok at least twice a week. It's the best tasting Chinese food in the area. Quick and pleasant service from ordering to pick-up. Ask for the Darren Parker Special: 2 Egg Rolls, Chicken Teriyaki and a pint of Pork Fried Rice. read more

Such a great place to eat and it's cheap considering the quality. I always get the chicken and fried rice and I love it. I do prefer less veggies though but I'm not gonna complain. They give you yum-yum sauce and it's fantastic as well. They are always fast at making it and do it within 10 mins. The sole reason I gave this a four star and not a five star is because I don't think it's the best Asian place to eat in Mattoon. It's definitely second. I was staying in Mattoon on a road trip (twice, once in each direction.) I ate here twice and both times I received a large portion of tasty traditional Chinese take-out at a value price. They definitely need more seating, not even enough room to sit and wait for take-out, I sat in my car. A long bench along one wall could accommodate a lot more people that a square table with 4 seats, once 1 person sits at the table waiting for take-out, no one else is going to sit next to them. read more
