This Oriental grocery store carries my favorite brand of potsticker....they come in pork or chicken varieties. These are very meaty on the inside and the dough is not very thick...very good tasting as well. Besides the ones I like they do carry some other brands and varieties of potstickers, so you can take your pick. This is such a little gem smack dab in the middle of Cranston on the corner of Pontiac & Park Ave. As soon you open the door it's like controlled chaos. There is so many delights crammed into this little store. If you're looking for anything from Ramen noodles, fresh Chinese produce and frozen delicacies such as wontons and dumplings. They have Filipino goodies as well, lumpia & sausage. Spices galore, pretty much anything you can think of as far as Chinese condiments and spices they'll have it. The ladies that work there are always very helpful and patient. They have a beautiful cat that hangs around the checkout area. I highly recommend this little Chinese market. read more

Pretty solid selection of Asian groceries for cheap. You can find most of what you need here, although there's not a lot of Vietnamese ingredients (I couldn't find fish sauce). But if you need Chinese, Japanese, or even Thai ingredients, they've got a considerable stash, especially considering how small the store is. If you're looking for a place to buy spices in bulk too, this is the spot. It's definitely a bit cheaper than Good Fortune, and it's way more cramped. Average sized mini market with a surprisingly wide selection of the most commonly sought for Asian dry goods to fill your pantry with..Chinese, Filipino, some Japanese, few Korean goods..it was a healthy mix. It has been my experience that you should bring cash. A couple of kids came in here wanting something small, but were unable to pay because they didn't carry cash. You can pay in card past a certain amount, which is what we did because we just moved here and didn't know. JUST BRING CASH. They don't really have much to carry your items out. They put our items in a small box, so I will probably bring a reusable shopping bag next time we go. For the most part, unless you needed fresh food, everything that you could basically want from an Asian pantry is probably here. I bought rice vinegar, soy sauce, Nishiki rice, tosino, fish balls, coconut milk, some candies, pineapple cakes and more. Nice and useful local market. Not a super store of Asian sundries, it is like a super packed 7/11 of Asian essentials from Japanese and South East Asian rice brands that you don't find in The Caucasian dominated New England grocery scene to a frozen section that has a little bit of everything from the various cuisines from Korea to Malaysia. This place definitely hits most of the day to day needs and keeps the trips to the Asian megastores in Boston and New Jersey to a minimum. If you are looking for Otaku snacks and pillows, stay away. Kumusta! I am writing this review on Yelp (the most 'awesomeness' site ever) to help my fellow Filipinos in Rhode Island area. GREAT selection of Asian goods. I find this shop bigger than some other local Asian markets I've visited, and I've found a greater variety of items as well. I also feel that the staff here is friendly and helpful, and so far I've found everything I've been looking for! I was on a mission to find Chinkiang vinegar, and couldn't find it at another local Asian market, but here I found several brands! It was a relief and definitely adds Chinese American Mini Market to my go-to list when I'm shopping for Asian ingredients. The prices are also really great. Absolute favorite market for Asian food! Staff is friendly and helpful. Visit this market at least once a week since 1997. They have expanded from their original shop. The variety of products can't be beat. Freezer section is huge and pretty much anything you can imagine. The refrigerator section is also big with a variety of food items as well as iced coffee --Mr Bean, a favorite from Japan. There's a fresh produce section as well as traditional pastries. The master goes to NY once a week so if I wanted/needed something they don't carried, he'd procure for me. I would describe this place as a rare find; a irreplacable jewel within the community. The selection for not only Chinese but some other Asian foods here is great. Ok you can't compare this place to the large mega markets you'd find in bigger cities with more Chinese people. It's a "mini-mart" - yet, for the humble size they are able to pack a lot in there! I'd recommend coming for the dried goods, sauces, seasonings and frozen foods. Not the best for fruit and pretty modest selection of veggies (napa, book Chou, chives, herbs, winter melon, etc), but they've always been super fresh and reasonably priced. I usually stock up on my sauces here and get ingredients to make pork dumplings. It can get a little tight in the aisles, but promise the experience and eventual haul is definitely worth it! read more

This is a nice little family owned Chinese market that offers a good variety of Chinese, Filipino and American groceries. Although small, it is always well stocked and nicely organized, which is ideal for someone who is on the run. The cashiers don't talk much but are generally friendly and helpful. The problem with writing reviews of Asian markets is that there's not often a solid basis of comparison between any two of them. Sure, there are similarities, but there's always something significantly different between any two. Stop & Shop and Shaw's? The same. Burger King and McD's? The same. Chinese American Mini Market and any other Asian grocery? Not the same. Immediately on walking in, I knew this place was different. It felt different; the lighting was (comfortably) dimmer, there was no odd (to my nose, anyway) odor, and everything felt well organized. Looking around, I immediately noticed the Filipino items, which previous reviewers have expounded on enough. It's enough for me to say that I'd never seen such a selection of Filipino items in one place. The market also had the standard pan-Asian selection of Chinese & Japanese stuff, along with Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Lao items among others, including Bahraini cheese spread in a can.(!). Their refrigerated/frozen section is pretty large, and contains the largest selection of fresh and preserved tofu my vegan traveling partner has ever seen. The staff is helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. It's not often I get out to this part of Cranston, but next time I do, I'll be stopping in again. read more

As with the other Providence-area small Asian markets, Chinese American is fine as they all are for convenience. This store has a pretty good selection of Chinese ingredients, frozen foods, and a small produce/meats area. The produce - while a limited selection - is actually pretty good, maybe a little higher priced than some of the others Asian markets, but is fresh and good quality. The meats are okay, primarily staples like ground pork, pork belly, pork ribs, which can also be found elsewhere. My main reason to frequent this store is that it carries probably the best local selection of Chinese sauces, pastes, condiments, and seasonings required for the more ambitious and authentic recipes when I cook at home. When your pantry's empty of that particular ingredient, it's a lot easier to come here than the hour-long drive to Quincy or Boston. In particular, Chinese American carries the best hot pepper/chili oil -- fiery hot and clean-tasting with no other added ingredients or flavorings like garlic, bean pastes, etc. Perfect for when you need/want heat, but no other unwanted flavors. My wife's a super chili-head (desensitized taste buds and all), and this is her go-to chili oil (layou). We buy a half-dozen bottles per visit and need to stock up every quarter! This place is the only RI local Asian market that I know carries this brand, so I award Chinese American with an extra star just for this. read more

While the store had a good selection, I cannot fathom going here again after the way in which we (my friend and I) were treated by the lady who was behind the counter (I'm not sure what her exact role is in the store). When it took me a few extra seconds to fumble in my wallet for cash, she glared at me, stared me down, talked past me to the person behind me in line to start taking care of their purchases, was cold and unceasingly rude. She made a point to mutter about us as we headed out. So this little gem was an unexpected find here in Cranston. We were out trying a new restaurant, Thai Orchid since you were so curious, and we stumbled upon this little Chinese market next door. Not particularly large or "in your face" but certainly easily accessible from the main street that it sits on. It's not much to look at but they have all your Chinese cooking essentials. It's a smaller market so don't expect them to have every variety of soy sauce that exist. They have enough so that you have something for you to choose from. They don't have much by way of fresh produce but everything else is well stocked. You can also get your 40K lbs of rice here as well in all sorts of varieties. They have frozen dumplings, wonton wrappers, Chinese candies and drinks galore. They do take credit cards but not Amex. Plenty of parking on the streets! read more

They had everything from durian to cheese and corn ice cream to fish sauce. Being Filipino, I've had to drive out to Quincy to get my Filipino groceries, but thanks to the Chinese American Mini Market, I can just go to Cranston! I bought yan yan, fresh pan de sal, siopao, and tocino! I'm in heaven! The prices are a bit higher than what I'm used to paying, but I figure it must be difficult to get those products in lil Rhody so I'll give them that. I like this place a lot because they have a fantastic selection of rice noodles and a wide range of hard to find Asian ingredients. Today for under $50 we got: a few kinds of rice noodles, 2 lbs brown sushi rice, a couple types of seaweed, kimchi, rice paper wrappers for Nime Chow, some dried Thai chilis, a box of six fresh pork buns, two pieces of sweet mochi and two nice big bowls for Pho. The prices were really reasonable for the most part. The organization of the store was not intuitive to me, several items lacked price stickers and the produce did not look great but otherwise I think the place is awesome and plan to go back on a regular basis. read more

Finally I have found a Asian market in RI that I can shop in. My other half is Filipino so there are a few items that I like to have at the house that I can't find at the regular grocery store. The staff is friendly and did their best to answer my questions. The board of health was there at the same time I was and I made a point to ease drop on what was being said. From what I saw all was approved except for the bread with bean paste not being refrigerated. If you know Ube this place has it all. I came home with more then my fair share of Ube flavored treats including ice cream. I have only been once so it is hard to tell how well they keep everything stocked but, after a conversation between my husband and myself we had to look up the market on line to make sure we were talking about the same store. It appeared to us that much of their frozen and refrigerated food vary a good amount from week to week. I will definitely be back for more Ube ice cream so if the freezer is empty you know I was there! read more

I have been going to this place for a long time. 20 years maybe? I don't even know. After reading all these reviews from filipinos I'll have to see where all this stuff is, it's just such a maze of ever changing products (in a good way) I don't think I have noticed the filipino stuff except for "ding dong" and "cracker nuts". Anyway, this a great source for asian produce (cheap ginger, garlic, bok choy, baby bok choy, napa cabbage, pea greens in season, mung bean sprouts, stuff I don't know the names of...), various tofu products (regular blocks, dried and spiced, "noodles", fried puffs, 5 spice squares, etc), coconut milk, various sauces and pastes ... brined jackfruit in a can, tons of weird as hell pickled vegetables, a bunch of teas, dried fish/squid/etc, japanese snacks, a small japanese food section directly across from the registers, I believe chinese toiletries behind the counter (which I fancifully imagine is full of odd ingredients like bull penis and whatever else chinese medicine is up to these days (not hatin')), freezers full of stuff you just don't see in american markets. Even though I have been in this place a million times I still, every few visits, just browse as much of it as I can looking for something new and am rarely left not finding something. read more
