Large frozen food and seasonings aisles which is what I prefer to come here for. They also have a lot of bulk noodle varieties, as well as, produce. Be aware: they moreso package for a household compared to other Asian markets around. The produce is packaged in minorly larger quantities. Love that they have the tea jelly you can use to make honey citron tea at home. They had the jujube one I regret I didn't buy too. Also many household essentials such as traditional pots, utensils, rice canisters, etc. always very clean and well kept there. read more

V-Mart International Market is a one-stop shop supermarket for those that are needing their asian groceries. It is a large supermarket and plenty of room to walk around. There is a lot of empty space. V-Mart International Market has sauces, frozen items, and fresh vegetables like watercress and yu choy sum. I am used to the vegetables packaged in plastic bags, but these were in plastic packaging. The aisles are easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. Pleasantly surprised by this place! I wasn't sure what to expect when I pulled in but it was incredible! Has everything you could ever want!

In Hawaii, every other market you go to is an Asian market. There's Marukai, Don Quijote, Nijiya, Palama Supermarket... the list goes on and on. But in Providence, I never expected to find a relatively well-stocked Asian market with a wide variety of produce, snacks, sauces, and other staples of the sort. I've been to Asiana over in East Providence before, but it was way too tiny to actually go grocery shopping at. Cue: V-Mart. Some of my friends have gone to V-Mart before just to buy some essentials for Hawaii club events (spam, rice, nori, panko, etc.). I was attempting to make some version of a vegetarian Yukgaejang, so I needed bean sprouts, kimchi, sesame oil, spring onion, and japchae since I already had the soup stock, chili powder, and tofu at home. Thankfully, V-Mart had nearly everything that I needed, plus a little extra (I got some plain ramen noodles as well as a cute little crab-shaped crispy rice snack). I will mention that I heeded the other reviews and steered clear from the meat and seafood section. The only thing I wish they had was a wider variety of themed-Asian goods. Since V-Mart is primarily a Vietnamese market, it is a bit hard to find certain things that are unique to Japanese or Korean dishes. Plus, it is difficult when a lot of the vegetables in the produce section come in such large packages. For example, I wanted to put some bok-choy-esque veggies in my soup, but the only package with bok-choy-esque veggies had enough to serve 10 people! Nevertheless, V-Mart provided me with what I needed at a great price, so I can't really complain. Whenever I attempt to make another Asian dish that requires ingredients that I am not able to get at Trader Joe's or Eastside Marketetplace, I'll be making another trip back to V-Mart. read more

A really big Asian market in the area, possibly in Rhode Island. I've always gone to the smaller ones growing up with my family especially the Cambodian markets. This is one of the newer stores in town and they do a good job with having everything in stock. It's pretty organized and love their vegetable section. They have all the Asian veggies that I need to cook a good Cambodian meal. I really like that they have purple potatoes, lemongrass, long green peppers, and Asian eggplant, etc. They also have exotic fruits when in season, mangosteen, rambutan, and cherimoya. I usually like to stock up on the Asian ramen noodles, seaweed snacks, and Asian canned foods. They also have fresh daily Asian snacks like noodles and sweets. They also have a large meat and seafood section; although I don't trust their meats too much because the fish eyes were red which is an indicator that it's not fresh. I like getting the packaged Chinese sausages there. Although the smell is putrid, that to me seems like the norm for Asian markets. Overall, it's a convenient little spot to get all your Asian food needs. Also, big a parking lot so that's nice whereas other places you have to park on-street. read more

Took my sister and nephew on a "field trip" and ran into my manicurist in the store! The locals know where to go. This place is not glamorous - I would compare to PriceRite. It has a warehouse feel. After having shopped here a few times, I have mixed feelings. - Pros The place is large, so many options for many staple items. Several brands of Jasmine rice, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, bean curd, fish sauce, etc... Large selection of vegetables that might be hard to find in other places like bitter melon, large bean sprouts, chinese eggplant, etc.. - Cons Several times I have looked for frozen items like egg rolls, dumplings, etc...and every time I have been there, I have found MANY EXPIRED items.. I learned the hard way when I bought some frozen egg rolls this past summer ...there was no expiration date on the box. I cooked them and what a disgusting smell they had...I took a little bite just to make sure and they were BAD... Could not bring them back since they were all cooked... This last time I went, I checked and many items had a BEST BY DATE of March 2013, June 2012, Feb 2012. What happens when people who are in a rush buy these expired items and get sick?? This is a pretty good sized market for all of your Asian food needs. There's an amazing variety of frozen fish, seafood, fish and fresh live fish as well. It has a great selection of already made food for sale on tables near the front door, but I was told that's a thing they only do on Sundays. The pricing all seems fair, the store is pretty clean and organized. The staff were friendly as well. I'll be back to this place the next time I'm planning an Asian inspired meal. read more

I come here about 3+ a week... They have everything I need. I used to go to china town in Boston because the mkts in this area didn't have everything. There was a good one on Rolfe Sq. in cranston, but the husband cheated on the wife and they close down! But when Vmart open and I went there for the first time I was impress with the selection of chinese and south eastern Asian products. Now I don't have to drive to Boston as often. :) read more

My advice: check your receipts. I used to shop here every weekend. Then I found out they will round up prices when you check out. It's only a cent difference but why place a price of 3.99 when you're going to ring it at 4.00 anyways? And what if you have several .99 cent items? Holy crap. This place is giant. GIANTICAL!!! They basically have several types of everything you've ever looked for in am Asian market. Yes, I have read that there are expired items. But I know several western markets where this happens often as well. Just be smart. Look at your items. The prices are amazing here. I got 10x the noodles I'd get in a regular market with an Asian section. And 3x as much as other Asian markets I've been to in Prov-Cranston. I was impressed with the butcher area. Fresh stuff, weird stuff, $1.83 for a giant rack of chicken hearts. $2.30 for a giant pig heart. $5.20 for a giant rack of chicken thighs ($9 ish elsewhere) Produce area is impressive too, all things considered. The other Asian markets, I have to hit up 2/3 to get what I want. Now I have a one stop shop. read more

mini-update and downgrade from prior 4 star review: this place is getting grubbier and lacking in professionalism. Still the largest Asian market with the most Asian products to be found in RI, but this place needs to get to some serious scrubbing and keep better track of inventory (expired canned goods does not give me confidence). Read those labels before you buy folks and you'll be fine, but still.... ------------------------ There are a lot of mom-and-pop Asian markets in and around Providence that usually specialize in one or two cuisines tops. V-Mart took the opposite approach and decided to sell just about everything Asian (and a large selection of Latin items too). It's the largest Asian specialty grocery I've been to in RI by far, and it sells everything from your choice of Chinese circular or square wonton wrappers, a Thai coconut shredder apparatus, 5 different sizes of Japanese Tiger brand rice cookers, Korean bulgogi marinade to Filipino ice cream. V-Mart can improve by working on reducing the sometimes overwhelming smells (all those spices and other food smells going on at the same time), but seriously, you'll find just about everything you can possibly need for your Asian home cooked meal in one warehouse-like place and for low prices to boot (it's about time RI)! read more

A grand new opening of an Asian Grocery Store and yet a bit lack luster. Despite being NEW, it has all the styling of a supermarket either going out of business or still being put together. A number of aisles and shelves are empty and yearn for products and the cement floor leaves a warehouse impression. Not a whole lot of people and only one person at one of two registers but I came on July 4th in the afternoon so maybe it that's why. Nevertheless it had plenty of different things I expected of an Asian grocery store plus produce to the middle right of the market and a fresh meat and seafood all the way to the rear and right. Not sure how clean the produce and meats were but they're there and the bokchoy I bought needed lots of cleaning to get rid of the sand. Also plenty of freezers and fridges lined all around the building and had so many fishball varieties that it took me a good 5 minutes to figure out which one I wanted. Pricing for most product appears on par with even NYC Chinatown however quality control is really lacking. I went through sauces and found a number of bottles that were cracked or covered with some sticky residue which I believed may be the sauce leaking. Definitely not quite a Hong Kong Supermarket. However if you look past the dingy appearrance, there's plenty of inexpensive Asian groceries that can be had. read more

I love V-Mart! One of the best places to get ethnic foods, spices, and even drinks and other assorted items like a rice cooker! Price-wise, it's in the middle, with certain prices going for less than the regular supermarkets and others going for more. Location is pretty convenient, for me at least, and the employees are always so nice and helpful. Would give it 5 stars if it weren't for a bad experience with some not-so-fresh fish and meat I bought from them. Still, great place to shop for everything else! read more

I was talking to a Chinese friend of mine and we were talking about grocery shopping and Asian markets. He told me about V mart. I had never heard about it. I asked what it was like and he said it was big and they had all kinds of variety. Vmart is like an Asian super Stop and Shop. This place is easily the biggest Asian market I have ever been to. I think this market can cater to any person from the East. They also have Spanish food. There is a large freezer and cooler section, I bet there are 100 coolers/freezers at least. Then there are the aisles and shelves with just about everything you can think of from dish soap to fish sauce. There is a good selection of meats and fish. They also have a good selection of fresh fruits and veggies. One thing that caught my eye on the way out was the Balute. I consider myself a hardcore foodie but I'd don't know if I could handle eating that. read more

Walk through the door, and it's like opening the lid on a dumpster on a hot day. A cautious person would turn right around and leave! I don't have time to drive Quincy, so I move with a purpose to get what I need. There are a dozen or so fellow shoppers, who are not put off by the smell. V Mart is very well stocked. I go to buy Thai ice tea, ramen noodles, green tea with milk, moochi, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, pho soup base, baby bak choi, yard long beans, lemongrass, lime leaves, snacks... There is a butcher shop in the back. There is also a strong odor in the back! Armondo and Sons is a block away. I'll get meat there. Packaged food, and a few vegetables I'm going to cook well. Vietnamese Super Market that is pretty large. I was in the search of Japanese products, and only Japanese items they had was udon, soba, and seasonings. Unfortunately, the rice here is all the larger grains vice the standard Japanese styles. This place has a large section of fresh vegetables that is reasonably priced and also has a huge butcher section with frozen foods from all over Asia. I was kind of surprised by the quantity of Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai culinary items they had so if you are looking for an ideal place to shop for those things please check this place out. The only down side is, it does not seem to be in a good neighborhood. As the wife and I were leaving, one of the workers was in a heated face to face shouting match with another lady. It seemed like something you would see out of "Jerry Springer". Needless to say I don't think I am making the drive to Newport to come back to this location, but if you are local it may be a good option. read more

I come here several times a month at this point, so I wanted to update my last review. I still don't go near the meat and fish, the store still smells (my sensitive-nosed husband waits in the car most times), and I still check all the expiration dates. HOWEVER: Their produce is definitely the best part. Their selection is huge and is very fresh. I've found the weekend to be the best time to come...everything is stocked to the brim because I think they do most of their business then. I come for sleeves of garlic, massive yellow onions, scallions, cilantro, mint, Thai basil, lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, huge packages of Thai chilies, king oyster mushrooms, enoki, fresh shitake, bean sprouts, garlic blossoms, bok choy, limes, lemons, ginger, eggplant...the list goes on. I've had plenty of opportunities to poke around and have found some new favorites such as Healthy Boy brand's mushroom soy sauce, Bull-Dog's tonkatsu, and Kewpie mayo. They have a lot of whole and ground spices, curries, and pastes. Their noodle selection is out of control. I come here when I'm making kimchi because they have the chili powder I need, they have the right spices and ingredients for when I'm making pho, and in general...whenever I'm looking for a new ingredient that I'm unfamiliar with, chances are they have it. I want to familiarize myself with the produce more, because there are so many things I don't recognize but bet are delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful and will be happy to help you with whatever you can't find or have questions about. ALSO: I got a gorgeous marble mortar and pestle for $16 that I use all the time, and I scored a great bamboo steamer the other day. read more

More extensive selection than other local Asian markets (e.g. Chinese-American Market, Asiana, Mirae) and a time-saver in avoiding the hike up to the Boston area. You can get items like salted/fermented tofu, salted duck eggs, century eggs, and all kinds of Chinese bean sauces and other staples. The best part of V-Mart is the vegetable/produce area which is quite good, with good prices and freshness. Chinese broccoli, baby bok choi, yu choy, pea pod leaves, and flowering garlic chives are some of our favorite veggies. Fresh, whole mushrooms are a good buy here as well: oyster, king oyster, enoki, maitake, and of course shiitake -- all delicious! An annoyance however, is that many of the vegetables are wrapped on styrofoam trays -- this unnecessary packaging takes up room in your shopping bags, your fridge's vegetable bins, and is a wasteful addition to the landfill. On the downside, the fish area tends to be not-so-fresh ... if you have a good eye for fish (eye brightness, gill color), then you can pick out what the good buy is that day; otherwise, need to be careful. The fish counter always seems to be full of melting ice and just doesn't look very clean. Fresh meats look to be okay, although the ground pork that I buy there seems to be very fatty -- might be better off getting your meats elsewhere. We hit V-Mart mostly for the produce and canned/jarred/preserved staples rather than for the meats and fish. read more

So many products were expired. The avocados we bought had never turned soft after two weeks, so we ended up throwing them out. Some of fresh food (supposedly) could turn bad in one or two days. Everyone tries to be boss and the person who is the apparent owner doesn't seem to have very much interest in his own market! The supervisor causes so many problems with other employees but never gets fired only the good employees do? I guess some sort of ass kissing must be going on there. I love to cook hot pot from time to time, and as someone not that familiar with Asian supermarkets, I feel that this place is very user friendly. The aisles are organized well, I found everything I needed easily, and the check-out process is great. I would say that 1 star gets knocked off for the smell inside of the store.
