This was my first time trying out this place. My husband's coworkers recommended it, so we had to try it out. Chinese Kitchen reminded me of a much healthier Panda Express with more choices on the menu. So why I say it reminded me of Panda Express- their setup is similar to it as you get to choose a combo plate like Panda Express. I had the two combo plate with half chow mein and half pork fried rice. The entrees were a sesame chicken and a sweet&spicy (not exact name I couldn't remember) chicken. I would definitely recommend the chow mein and the sesame chicken. I wasn't too fond of the pork fried rice since it tasted a little dry and grainy. But we came during late lunch, so that could be a factor. I do not recommend this place. It has no flavor and it's so bland. As you are eating the chicken you get a strong chicken scent I know it's chicken but it's so strong it makes it hard to eat. Our meals were inexpensive and prepared quickly, and we were both surprised by how large their portions were. The two-item combos we bought at lunchtime fed us for the rest of the day, so I'd say we definitely got our money's worth. Not to mention, it tasted delicious. STRICTLY TAKE-OUT. A Panda Express-style steam tray spread. Order a 2 or 3 item combination plate for under $10 which comes with your choice of chow mein or fried rice. Trays seemed to be mostly chicken dishes (sesame chicken, green bean chicken, etc). Full orders of everything else off the menu is around $7 at most. Everything in the trays is available to sample. There is no indoor seating, except for a few chairs to wait for your order, but there are around 5 tables outside for convenience. Drinks are limited to a refrigerated display unit filled with bottles and cans. On a personal note, I scrutinize Chinese restaurants by their ability to cook a decent Mongolian beef dish, and honestly, I think I found my new favorite place. Since I live in Atwater it sure beats driving to Merced. We spent $30 on 6 plates, about the same as we'd spend at Panda Express, and the kids didn't even put a dent into the dinner when normally we don't even have Panda leftovers. Quality food, crazy large portions, super-nice staff, and about as decent a price as you're going to find. Highly recommended. read more

I bought the Hong Kong for two people with an order of Honey Walnut Shrimp. This was enough food for four people! My total cost was $25, so it was a very good value. I love the pork fried rice. The chow mein was different than I was used to but I liked it as it seemed less greasy than other chow meins. I didn't care for the sweet and sour pork. It was a little bit tough and not enough flavor for my taste. Honey Walnut Shrimp is my favorite dish and it did not disappoint. I will go back here just for that alone.
