Nothing fancy but by far the best ASIAN place I found near Modesto. The place is far from elegance offered by big city Chinese diners but for small town Chinese, it's far above the expected. Loved the mapo tofu and the dinner plate combo of kung pao shrimp with beef fried rice. Nearly all, maybe even all, menus were $10-14. Could't give this place 3 1/2 stars. Hubby and I decided to have Chinese for lunch and since our usual place is closed on Sunday, I thought we'd give this place a try. A bit pricey. We ordered sizzling rice soup, Peking ribs and rice. Surprisingly it totaled $40. Trying to calculate $15 for the ribs and $12 for the soup which means the large rice is $10 and we also had ice water and hot tea which we could have been charged also. No itemized bill. Great food but a bit pricey. Not trying to be cheap but I want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off. Being in the San Jose Bay Area, I have been to many Chinese restaurants and I know good Chinese food that won't broke me and mediocre Chinese food that cost an arm and a leg. The kind lady was quick and when I asked for a water bottle without hesitation she gave me one ( I'd rather pay for a bottle then have a cup as I'm autistic and it makes a huge difference) with that being said this was our first time here and EVERYTHING and I mean everything was hot and delicious. December 20, we found ourselves in Turlock again doing errands and nothing really sounded good for lunch, but then we both went "Chinese" so we went back to Friendly House because the week before we were very pleased with our meal and service. The hubs decided on house chicken over rice.. extra spicy... and when I could see him wiping his scalp, that was a good sign... they got the spicy just right for him. My chicken with mixed vegetables came with white rice, but for some reason, I decided I wanted chicken fried rice, which was good, but probably in hindsight I would order it with the white rice instead . I did try a piece of my husband's house chicken and while his spicy was too spicy for me, I think I'm going to order that next time and just get it the regular spicy. Great service again and I'm sure we'll be coming back again. In fact, after the new year, a friend is visiting from out of state and we already decided we are taking him here!!! read more

My favorite go to dish is the Hong Kong style crispy noodle chow mein. I get the beef. The beef is so tender. The noodles are cooked perfectly. You gotta try this dish. I order it with no ginger.
