I visited this restaurant after it was highly recommended by a few friends, so I was excited to try it. When we walked in, we were greeted by (I believe) the owner, who was very kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. There were four of us dining. Since it was our first time and we didn't know the portion sizes, I ordered a few appetizers, 3 egg rolls, 4 dumplings, and 8 wings. When it came time to order our entrées, my daughters ordered a noodle plate, my mom ordered a combination plate, and I tried to order the same. That's when the waitress told me I was ordering "too much food." I was confused but explained that if I didn't finish, I would take the rest to go. She still insisted it was too much and even told me she would only pack my plate to go instead of serving it to me. I didn't want to make a scene, so I let it go, but the whole interaction felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. What made the experience worse was that customers who arrived after us were served before us. By the time our food came, I was already disappointed and sadly, the food didn't help. The wings, which were highly recommended by others, looked oversized and unappetizing, and the overall quality just wasn't there. We ended up paying nearly $100 and left most of the food behind because none of us enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I would not return. We've been wanting to try this place and we finally got the chance a few weeks ago. I've seen and heard mixed reviews. We went on a Friday evening and it was moderately busy. When we got there, we were seated pretty quickly. The menu is pretty expansive so it definitely feels overwhelming at first with the amount of options. My boyfriend and I figured we can pick a couple appetizers and get separate combination plates which would allow us to try a little bit of everything. For appetizers, we ordered: Steamed bbq pork buns Popcorn chicken For combination plates, we ordered: #H fried shrimp, pork fried rice, and Mongolian beef over noodles #D orange chicken, pork fried rice, and beef and broccoli over noodles The food was decent. I liked the fried shrimp and orange chicken. Boyfriend liked the Mongolian beef and beef and broccoli. We both also liked the popcorn chicken. The steamed bun was pretty generic. Lots of food and more than enough for 2 people. Definitely prefer and recommend this over getting Panda Express. Staff was friendly. The older gentleman with glasses was really nice. Some of the tables needed to be cleaned better. There were flies inside and one of the staff was just hitting them with a swatter as people ate. Food didn't seem very appetizing after seeing that. Overall, it's an okay establishment. I would go here over Panda Express. However, next time, I might order to go but that's pretty much it. read more

Found a new spot to eat and OMG we are so glad my husband ignored those random 3-star Yelp reviews! If you see duck hanging in the window, you already know it's about to be fire! We actually came here by accident--we were aiming for the place next door--but walked in, got seated right away, and then BAM... the menu hits you. It's HUGE. Like, Bay Area-level options. I was instantly in love. It was just the two of us, but we ordered like we were feeding a small village lol. Everything comes out family-style, super shareable, and the flavors are on point. I ordered beef chow fun--well, whatever they call it on their menu--and gave it a little twist. They have a Singapore noodle dish but it's vermicelli (not my fave), so I asked for chow fun with the Singapore seasoning... basically curry magic. And let me tell you... IT. WAS. BOMB. Grand opening 3 months ago and now it's time to try. Came for dinner and immediately feel welcomed as you enter. Friendly staff and greeted as you enter. Nice vibe atmosphere and so bright and spacious. Small glass display of hanging duck and pork belly as you enter. Such a teaser; makes your mouth water and immediately want to order. However, the pork belly was not as what I imagined. It looked crispy and juicy but it wasn't. Skin was rubbery and chewy. Will take home and warm it up to an air fryer. Also tried the combo plate #B: Orange Chicken, Pork Fried Rice & Mongolian Beef over Noodles. This was so much food; shared but we still didn't finish it. Also ordered, hot and sour soup, plate of vegetables, fried shrimp and pot stickers. All were very delicious and very generous in serving size. Definitely will have leftovers for another great meal following day. Make sure to visit this place before you go and try Panda Express. You will get much more of a deal in serving size and for what you pay for. I would definitely come back for their friendly service and try the other items in the menu. After reading some good reviews/comments from folks on Facebook, I decided to give them a try for dinner the other night. I ordered online via their website so I can't really grade their customer service. However, their online ordering system is top notch and very easy to use. They have plenty of pictures of their food and so many options to choose from. I wanted to try everything but I had to be realistic about how much I was going to eat. I ended up ordering a mix plate that included roast duck, crispy pork belly, and roast pork. It came with steamed rice and sauteed greens. It sounded so delicious on the menu! But unfortunately, it was so disappointing I also ordered the salt and pepper chicken and an order of eggrolls. The good: roast pork was delicious, the rice was steamed perfectly, the vegetables were cooked just right, and the eggrolls were delicious. The bad: the crispy pork belly was anything but crispy. It was rubbery and chewy. The roast duck was also disappointing. I was expecting tender, juicy, and crispy skin. It was none of those. The salt and pepper chicken was also a let down. The flavor was decent but the the breading was so thick it made it unpalatable. As far as ambiance, the restaurant itself is bright and nicely renovated. They also have a glass warming cabinet where they hang their roast duck for display. IMO, this is definitely not the best Chinese food in Merced. I do think they have potential and there's absolutely room for improvement. Price was decent, $35 for everything ordered. Portions were also pretty good. You don't have to take my word for it. We arrived at New Hong Kong late in the night, and ordered the beef chow fun and fish maw soup. Everything tasted ok, and it is probably the better of any other option in the area. The server was helpful. Don't mind the cute stickers on the walls with funny statements in English. read more

All things considered, a solid 4 stars. Plenty of menus options, friendly staff, large portions, nice prices, good food, great location, and clean tables. All of the bases are covered. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice, and Mongolian beef over noodles, and it was very good and had huge portions. My son ordered the beef and broccoli, which was also very tasty. For an appetizer, we got the pork bao buns and they were delicious. They are open (at least for now) until 1am for the college kids and night owls. I am so excited to have this amazing new selection of Chinese dishes in Merced! There are two menus. The flat one is the "typical" American Chinese food menu similar to other Chinese places in town. I didn't bother with that. The OTHER menu (the booklet, the good menu) is where it's at! Dim sum, rice crepes, hand pulled noodles, roast pork and roast duck, sizzling meats, clay pot dishes, soups, desserts....it goes on and on! We tried to sample from different parts of that menu and didn't remember to take pics of everything. Highlights were the hand-pulled noodles with beef in soup, clay pot rice with roast duck, sizzling honey bbq ribs, salt & pepper squid, sautéed greens (in the dim sum section). Also, didn't get a pic, but for dessert the glutinous rice balls in sweet rice wine were delicious. You cannot get most of these foods elsewhere in Merced. I know there were hiccups with service the first couple weeks after opening. Many new restaurants experience this so I try to give grace and try again. I have gone three times, first for dinner (we had a fine time though I could see other tables were waiting a long time for food) and then a couple weeks later for lunch with friends twice. Everything I've had there has been delicious and has come out correctly as ordered, and the staff has always treated us just fine. I hope we can support this place so they keep serving foods we can't get anywhere else around here! For folks who are skeptical because the old Hong Kong was god awful: this place is TOTALLY different lol. Just give it a try! The menu has both familiar comfort dishes and some more adventurous options, which I appreciate. What we ordered: * Mongolian Beef * Sizzling Pork Intestine * Beef & Cilantro Rice Noodle Roll * Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll * Two sides of white rice Sizzling Pork Intestine - 9/10 This was hands down the standout dish of the meal. The intestines were well-cleaned (a must for this dish), and the mix of bell peppers, onions, ginger, and celery gave it a balanced flavor and satisfying texture. I would've loved them a touch crispier, but the portion was generous--way more than I've seen at most places, which usually skimp. I'd absolutely reorder this one. Mongolian Beef - 4/10 This one was a miss for me. The sauce was very heavy and overly salty. It seemed like they used a lot of dark soy sauce, which dominated the dish. The portion size was solid, and it came with onions and bell peppers, but the flavor balance just wasn't there. White Rice - 4/10 While the portion size was generous, the rice was on the hard side--definitely had that leftover, fried-rice-ready texture. Edible, but not something I'd rave about. Rice Noodle Rolls * Beef & Cilantro - 9/10: Great texture, not too thick, and the beef and cilantro combo worked really well together. * Shrimp - 7/10: Still good, but not as flavorful as the beef one. They pre-add the sauce for you, which was convenient and flavorful. Final thoughts: This place has promise, and I'll definitely be back--especially for the pork intestine and rice noodle rolls. Honestly the food is great, it tastes fresh and it tastes like it's made on the spot, big portions too worth the money! Tastes a bit salty or it could be the sodium they use. Still enjoyable. The waitress we got that night wasn't bad but from my point of view she would only pay attention to my girl. She asked her if she wanted a box to go only for her and before I can say "me too" she walked away quick, clearly I needed a box too and same thing with other situations when ordering food she would just walk away quick not giving me a chance to speak or ask. She was more worried about the music she was choosing than us. From my point of view I felt ignored When it came down with service either than that It looks small from the outside but it has more room in the inside and the sitting it's great. First time trying this place and The owner I believe she's Japanese, forgive me if I'm wrong but she was very sweet and nice and friendly! Very welcomining. Everybody has different experiences but mine today was not what I expected. I walked in and ordered only a Thai tea and Mango Sago and it took over 40 minutes for my mango sago to come out. I asked if my order was almost ready and they replied with "we have main dishes to serve and the yours will come out." If I got here before other people did I do expect for my food to come out before theirs especially if it's a cold item and doesn't take long to cook like the other dishes. read more

We came to Merced on business and wanted to get some good food to eat. We stumble on new Hong Kong restaurant and we were very happy with the result. There is a wide variety of items on the menu. We selected the fish tofu Clay Put, which was flaky full of flavor and amazing. Second item was beef with noodle clay top, which was soft beefy and the noodle were full of the flavor of the sauce. We also ordered the beef white rice noodle. This was really great and the noodle had soy sauce flavor. The condiment on the table, including a very unique, hot sauce with beans and other flavor that makes it taste you like you want to have more. The portion were big and we ended taking the leftover home. We wanted to try the desert but we were so full we said we will certainly come back again. I'll be honest, I'm posting this review because the single review currently is someone who didn't even order food. First the positive: Much better than the previous establishment and the things we ordered, which were not standard strip mall Chinese food, were pretty good. The hand-pulled noodles with spinach and beef was really good -- noodles were a nice consistency, tasty, and I would definitely order again. The salt and pepper squid was good, thickly battered and fried. The cold tofu skin with cucumber and mushrooms was pretty good -- refreshing anyway. The scallion pancakes were unremarkable, but enjoyable. The prices are good -- definitely less than I expected at the end of the meal. The negative: The menu is *way* too long. I'm suspicious when a restaurant tries to do everything rather than a small number of things well. The combo plates others ordered looked more like the standard fare fast food Chinese. Though the menu includes some things I haven't seen around here, which is great, the food and atmosphere as a whole is solid, but looks similar to some of the other restaurants in town. The unknown: They have been open less than a week and clearly working out the bugs -- literally in the sense of some flies in the dining area, which absolutely should be taken care of asap, but figuratively with servers who seemed overwhelmed with the opening week rush. I always err on the side of being more charitable for the opening week of a restaurant, so hopefully sorted out and I'll try again in a couple weeks. Overall, maybe 3.5/5, but there are some good, interesting things on the menu and hoping they settle into a 4-star rating. I'll definitely be back to try again. read more

The food was amazing! They have a great selection, and they cook with ingredients that I feel like are hard to find even outside of Merced. The food was exceptionally flavorful and wonderfully fragrant. We tried 5 things, Green Beans and Eggplant, Salt and Pepper fish, braised pork intestine, fried pork belly, and the dumplings. I would say that none of them were not 10/10, the green beans were perfect texture and perfectly seasoned so you could taste the veg, the intestine tasted clean, the salt and pepper fish was so crunchy but also bright, the pork belly was perfectly seasoned and the dumplings were so juicy and meaty. The only issue would be service, as they brought out our fried pork and intestine somewhat cold. I believe they are just overwhelmed though, and they are sweet and kind. A lot of the comments about this restaurant are that they are rude but working in this industry is hard, especially if you've just opened the restaurant/you're working for a recently opened restaurant. I recommend you try them, the food is delicious and care about the customers. read more

Went to get an H Plate with mongolion beef over chow mein, pork fried rice, and fried shrimp. The meat was good until I bit into a chunk of rock on the beef? I wouldve taken a photo but I spit it out so quick. The chow mein unfortunately was still raw, it did not bend, I took a bite and it was crunchy, gross. As well as cold fried, who knows how long it had been sitting. On top of all that I paid 16.50 for it. Hopefully the next person to get a meal here wont have the experience I did. Ordered takeout for the family from here. The food was really good! The portions were insane- I got one of the combo plates (D) and after eating through it until I was full it still looked untouched. This place is delicious! I came in with my dad today after a doctors appointment. My dad is a huge fan of wonton soup. Being that he is a truck driver, he has had wonton soup throughout the state. He took one sip and immediately said it was some of the best soup he has had to date. I ordered P1, the sizzling honey bbq short ribs and man they were good! The service was also great. We've been here twice and both times have been very pleased with the meals. My favorite is the har kow, but the soup dumplings are also delicious. I was surprised by the shrimp noodle soup ! - homemade noodles, loaded with vegetables and perfectly soft shrimp in a savory broth!! The servers here are very nice and quick. The interior has been completely remodeled - I don't even recognize the place ! Modern, clean, pleasant. Possibly the most impressive thing about this place is the price ! I have been searching for good congee (Congee is a savory, creamy Asian rice porridge made by boiling rice in a large amount of water or broth until the grains break down, creating a thick, comforting gruel, served plain or loaded with toppings like meats, eggs, pickled vegetables, scallions, and sauces, often eaten for breakfast or when feeling unwell. ) this is the best meal to eat in the morning or an equivalent to the menudo broth. I love Chinese food, so I was excited to try this place with a friend. My friend has dietary restrictions (religion) and is unable to eat meat, so we were looking to eat some vegetarian meals. Overall we were dissapointed. I want to say our experience was an anomaly and just bad luck: the food tasted good, but we ended up leaving since everything we ordered had some issue: teas inconsistent flavor, served meat dish, and other dish had a fly. - Service 3/5: Definitely the type of place that requires you to call for servers. We didn't expect to wait for a server to get us drinks for 30 min (water and Thai tea) until we had to call them over and remind us we existed. We also had to remind them of what we ordered, even tho the waitress wrote our order down, so it was very strange. When we were finally served our drinks, both thai teas looked different: one light brown and one orange. There were only two other groups in the restaurant, so we weren't sure what was happening... Food: 2/5. The food was tasty, while it lasted. We asked the server to verify the dishes we ordered were vegetarian, and were excited to get a cucumber and eggplant and rice dish. Upon eating the eggplant, I tasted meat and immediately told my friend not to eat anything. Apparently, the chef put meat in the eggplant dish, so they asked us if we wanted the dish remade without meat. We said no, and instead opted to not eat family style and instead just eat our own entrees separately. However, my friend, while eating the cucumber dish, she found a fly in her dish. Having almost eaten meat AND a fly, we cut our losses and left. The staff were kind in apologizing and we didn't have to pay for the fly dish. Food: I ordered the (T6)Peking Style Ribs w.Rice Plate -Chinese style . It was not the American style. They actually had the bone still in the meat. The taste was great like sweet n sour. I will definitely go back. Very big portions as well. Service was great! I did get a little grossed out when the waiter/cashier was scratching his head a lot. Then getting utensils for the customer food and waiting tables. He had glasses on with a slight accent. They need to understand you don't touch your hair/face when working in a restaurant. I had gone to the old one since they were opened in downtown Merced. We ordered the crispy chow mein and unless you are a football player split it. My husband thinks it's as good as the original, I find the noodles are larger but it was good. Unbelievable portions. Looking around everything looked delicious. We also got the barbecue pork which was really good. We will definitely stop here when traveling. We live out of town. One thing I really love is the mug of tea blended perfectly.
