A distinguished and very fine seafood restaurant in Palermo Hollywood. Expensive. That is your problem. Not theirs. Reservations only. Don't count on talking your way in at the door. This is true even if the restaurant will be 2/3 empty all night. This is because, more than any other restaurant I have encountered ... The house is absolutely positively averse to food waste. They want to know EXACTLY how many people are coming every night. They buy just enough food To serve exactly X dishes to customers - a number known in advance, And throw away exactly Y dishes - the dishes that customers did not order. They know exactly what X and Y will be every night. When my wife and I were the first people in the restaurant, And we both ordered Salmon with Miso - we found there was just one copy of that dish that would be served that night. My wife got the one copy. From both a business standpoint and the point of view of managing quality in the kitchen, this policy makes total sense. Other restaurants don't do this or don't have to do it ... But I see what Chipper is trying to accomplish. * * * Everything we had at Chipper was utterly superlative. My wife's one dish of Salmon with Miso was dramatically good. However, I got a house staple ... The pasta with seafood sauce. This is a dish for which they are known, So they make a lot of this one. The seafood pasta would easily justify the reputation of the establishment. It is an utterly satisfying wonderful dish. The only other place I have had seafood pasta this good Was in an Argentine diaspora restaurant in Leme in Rio de Janeiro. I have thought about that dish for years. Chipper's stands in fine company with that legendary Rio de Janeiro bowl of pasta. * * * Desserts may be wonderful at Chipper. But keep in mind, Chipper is a few doors away from Alchemy. Alchemy is one of the finest if not the finest ice cream shops in Buenos Aires. Never never never never never never turn down a chance to get ice cream at Alchemy. So we did the morally right thing. But for appetizers and main courses, You are not going to beat Chipper if you like fish. Yeah, you have to make administrative arrangements to get into the place. Fried fish is good. Tasty. Their's is particularly good. A very nice batter, great consistency. Good fish! I'm not a chip connoiseur, don't care, have no opinion. They have a particularly nice clam chowder, very easy to recommend. In fact, i recommend it. Try sitting on the patio in winter with a bowl of their soup. So worth it. I was in Buenos Aires for a couple of weeks this month for work. I went to chipper three or four times during my stay. Buenos Aires is a great City for food, but you get tired of beef and heavy meat dishes at every meal. Chipper offers a lovely alternative - the fish and chips are delicious, but it has an expansive seafood menu -- the grilled prawns were my favorite. It has a chilled out vibe. Blending in with the surrounding cafes and brunch diners, this restaurant was not far from the hotel that we stayed at during our tour of Buenos Aires. We stumbled upon this restaurant on our last day in BA, having had our fair share of the local food scene the days leading up to this. Hence, we were quite fond of something that was closer to home and were pleased to see plenty of fried food and items from the sea. We proceeded to order the traditional fish and chips, the fried langoustine, and the "Gambas" (prawns) in garlic sauce. Both the fish-n-chip and langoustinewere exceptionally fresh, needing only a tiny splash of lemon and pepper to complete the taste profile. We also enjoyed the Gambas, which were quite saucy and heavy, having been marinated in prawn juice, but went well with the rest of the dishes. Chipper is fantastic! Literally had one our best meals in Buenos Aires here and thats saying a lot! Incredibly delicious and authentic fish and chips. The slaw and the mushy peas that come with are spot on. If I closed my eyes and bit into the dish I would think I was in the UK/Ireland. Also had the seafood risotto which was great as I find its a tricky dish to do in a restaurant but Chipper's was executed perfectly. Don't worry carnivores, there are some meat dishes as well! Top notch fish & chips in Bs As! But wait! There's more?! There really is! Chipper was near my hotel and I visited twice (the second time I brought friends)! I got the fish & chips as an appetizer, made with the whitefish. The fish was a good size for holding, and the batter adhered well and was crisp and not overly greasy or heavy. The chips were good, hot but not too crisp. The mushy peas that come with the dish were great (it was my first time trying this delicacy, and I love peas, and that's pretty much what this was, no "fresh spins" with this one). I tried the risotto, which had an amazing texture and good bite to the rice (so surprising in a fish & chips place, but the highlight of my visit for sure). We also ordered the shepherds pie, which had nice tender hunks of lamb. Our waitress and the manager on duty were very polite (in Spanish & English), and it was quiet one of the nights so we got to chat up the manager and get some inside info on the city and things to do. The decor is beautiful throughout the 3 floors, all a classic blue and white nautical theme with some modern touches in the art that make the place look cool, especially at night.
