Being an absolute girl who likes cutesy things I was instantly drawn to the glass cabinet with the Hello Kitty watches inside. They were around £30 and are really aimed at children but I really am such a kid at heart and have my very own Hello Kitty watch, even though it isn't a Swatch one. I have to say I found some of the watches quite garish and naff, but fine if you're just looking for a watch for a bit of fun and to add some colour to an outfit.

The boutique may be wee, but it's full of glass cabinets of jewellery joy, with many trendsome brand names, such as Juicy Couture, Lulu Guinness, Mont Blanc and Cruz. The jewels in here definitely have a fun edge to them, and are certainly fashionable, so this is a good option for browsing when you want something that's less high street trinket, and more quality fashion jewellery that you can wear over and over without worrying about it falling to pieces. There are still more expensive, special occasion items to be found here, like the Gucci watches, and as watches go, I'm quite a fan of the Juicy Couture cream numbers that Laing also stock. They've recently brought in a range of Mancini rings, which are excellent, because you just buy whichever band you want from the range, and they're all really reasonably priced, then you can keep coming back and buying different colours of stones to team with the band, as they're detachable. Great for fickle minded people like me, who get bored of the same colour after a few days.

As Stephanie has already pointed out, Alchemia is not your average jewellers, it sells super unique and unusual jewellery that you would be hard pushed to find anywhere else. All of their jewellery is made really precious metals and jewels. They had one necklace in their window which really caught my attention - it had a massive emerald stone in the centre surrounded by diamonds - amazing! Alchemia also do engagement rings and wedding jewellery, which are all completely amazing. All their items are expensive, but they are excellently made and are unique so you are guaranteed that no one else will have one. I can't wait until I can afford to buy some of their gorgeous jewellery, or meant someone who will buy it for me!!

They have a great range of Scottish designer jewellery, and will order things in for you on request. Some of the silver range on offer is really lovely and unusual. The jeweller is very pricey since it largely purveys high quality products by top-end designers like Sheila Fleet and Ola Gorie. The staff are kinda touch-and-go, sometimes they're lovely and sometimes they're a bit standoffish (I wonder how much my holey jeans and the fact that I look like a student has to do with it!). They are very knowledgeable about their products tho, and can be very considerate. The reason I am ranking this business so highly is because they have such a beautiful range of jewellery. They are obviously very selective, and are definitely a high cut above the chain jewellers in town. Some of their products are unusual and all are beautiful.
