I had a wonderful purchasing experience at this gallery! The staff in this gallery were so kind, helpful, and patience with me during my whole purchasing experience. So I was looking to furnish my home with some vintage theatre art. And before I actually visited this gallery I stumbled upon their website. And what I found was pure gold! They had everything that someone like myself was looking for in terms of vintage theatre posters. During my search on the website I came across an actual old new stock Freak by John Leguizamo poster and I immediately fell in love with it! I had to have it! So I called the gallery immediately and spoke to this marvelous gentleman name Larsson. He informed me that they did indeed have this poster available for purchase and that he would kindly hold it for me for a few days before I actually had time to visit the gallery. But while I was on the phone with him I happen to ask him if he had any Les Misérables Theatre posters in stock and to my elation he said he did. When he first started describing the actual poster he had told me that it came in two pieces and that it was quite large, about 72 to 80 inches tall to be exact. Immediately I was intrigued. I asked him if he could kindly send me some pictures and he directed me to were on their website I could actually find images of this poster. And while on the phone with him I immediately navigating to location on website to see the images. And again I was impressed with what I had found. It was the perfect poster. Perfect size, perfect image, and perfect everything! I immediately asked him to hold this poster for me as well and that I will be there tomorrow morning to purchase both posters. The next morning as promised I arrived at the gallery and was greeted by Mr. Larsson himself. After our introductions He immediately went into the back of the gallery in retrieved the two posters that I wish to purchase. To say that the quality of these posters was perfect is an understatement. They were in absolute gorgeous condition and I couldn't wait to own them. I immediately asked about framing options and he directed me to a wall full of wood frame samples that I was to choose from. After much deliberation I finally chose the wood frames that I wanted to surround these posters with and the rest is history. I paid for the posters as well for the framing and was to return the in a few weeks to retrieve the finished product. As you can see from the pictures below both posters were nicely framed and even came protected with UV rated Plexiglass. I must say that I was very happy with the end results. To tell the truth, when I found Chisholm Larsson Gallery online I didn't know what to expect. But I have to say for my first experience with purchasing vintage posters this was so pleasant. To be able to find a business like this that takes pride in offering such professionalism, patience and enthusiasm for what they do is very rare nowadays. Especially when you are ready to buy and original poster from a specific place and time. I have already been here and bought several pieces for the home and my office. This is a variety of posters available. I already own several that are on my wall or in my own storage area. From travel, art, locations, advertising and more. The variety is large. It is there and in storage if you ask for a specific item or style. It is even fun to see items that might be on movies and history. And it doesn't matter if it is here in the US or even overseas. Years ago in Madrid, I found myself in the superstore of El Corte Ingles. It had everything you could imagine from grocery goods to high end clothing. I was mesmerized by the amount of stuff I didn't need but wanted. El Corte Ingles also had many souvenir items for tourists. One of the services El Corte Ingles offered was imprinting names onto vintage style posters. I ordered one flamenco dancer poster for myself and one matador poster for my cousin. The posters were movie sized and I had them framed. Every time I look at them, I am reminded of another time in my life and all of the great experiences I had on that trip. Enter Chisholm Larsson Gallery. Right now they are having an exhibit of vintage posters from Spain. It goes 100 years back and are of all sizes from postcard to wall. Of course my favorites are the wall sized ones. The colors and simplicity of the art really draw you in. I can't wait to have my own place where I will be able to showcase my vintage collection. The gallery was empty except for one patron. I felt weird asking to see more posters since I am not in the market to buy. Posters will set you back a grand plus and that is not an investment I am willing to make living with roommates. In the meantime, Chisholm has their database online. But if you feel you need to see them in person (I highly recommend this.) the gallery is open for business. I guess to call them a poster shop would be an insult. read more

It would be frustrating to write anything less than a glowing review of a gallery I just dropped $1,100 at but in all truthfulness I have nothing less than adoration for this gem of retro-poster art. Commercial poster art - and we're not talking about that Farrah poster you had taped to your wall in the 70's - is not everyone's taste but certain pieces get me going and when I found something I'd admired for years, I just had to have it. Art speaks to people in unique ways - often as something that is defining and satisfying in a way nothing else can be. For me, this piece is 'who I am' if that makes any sense. Once I saw it and considered it, I decided to get it. After some hand-wringing and next day 'buyer's remorse' thoughts about the cost of the piece and the framing I decided to stop worrying and enjoy it. I am so glad I did. I was told it would take three weeks for the poster to be mounted and framed; my concerns over frayed edges and cosmetic issues completely relieved as the store's owner said they'd be. What I got was something that looks as smart and sharp as I envisioned it would. It's a conversation piece and that's about as good as it gets. With hope, it will be one of those prized possessions that I have for many years to come. read more

While I was ultimately pleased with the poster I purchased, I wasn't pleased with the poor communication from CLG's customer service. I had legitimate questions about the item yet was made to feel I should have known the answers. I also question CLG's ethics as they bought a poster out from under me. I may not be an expert in collecting rare posters, but I can tell you that Chisholm Larsson is a fantastic outlet for your scarce, artistic, vintage, and collectible needs. Their selection really spans a wide variety, from military and government themes, tourism/cruise/airline, and limited run museum exhibition posters to Olympics, movies, music, pop culture, LBGTQ interest, and advertising. Just as important, they have a good website (which was updated in the last year or two), that allows you to create a username and password, after which you can browse their entire collection and save your favorites to your "Personal Gallery". Then, when you go there to buy, you can hop on one of their two guest iMacs to log into your profile and pull up the poster you'd like to see. I've purchased two items from Chisholm Larsson (with other family members having made several other purchases) and both were very high quality prints, in very, very good condition. I opted to have CL's out-of-house framer mount and frame my prints (which I was nervous about, as I have a preferred framer in Lower Manhattan), but they did an outstanding job with my purchases. I have about another 75 prints in my Personal Gallery. There's no question that, if I had the resources and the wall space to drop another $10K on prints and framing, I would do it tomorrow at Chisholm Larsson. read more
