The sun was beating down pretty hard and I think I would have gotten a sunburn if I hadn't of been under the shaded seats. The whole process from getting the tickets to getting off the boat was very smooth and easy. We paid $15 for a 45 min. Boat ride. Worth every penny! The drivers had to keep pulling over and resetting some switch and the sensor. A supposed to be 18hour trip turned to 24 hrs almost. He owner claimed to have the vehicle looked at in Phoenix, however we faced the same issues headed home. Making this trip very miserable and uncomfortable. The owner took no accountability for the issues and tried to gaslight. The driver especially Jeff Jr were exceptional, and tried what they could to get us there and home. Oh and let's not forget the owner claimed he had a mechanic a hour away from Albuquerque and told us to keep going so we could meet them just to turn around and tell us the bus was German and they don't shave anyone to work on it. We've been pent up for…read morethe last couple months, with all the travel restrictions, and so a visit to the Great Salt Plains State Park was just what the doctor ordered. The Park was beautiful and the camp sites were great. There was people here, but not enough to ever feel crowded in any way. We found a few trails to hike, and saw lots of great sites. Giving this a 4-star review, only because the bathrooms could stand some improvements. Other than that, we had an amazing time and the weather was perfect.

The tour of the cavern was only $10 and was the best $10 I've ever spent. Alabaster Cavern State Park rocked my world with all the gypsom, slate and even rock candy at the gift shop. Good place to visit with kids 6 and up. Hiking was fun and manageable with a dog. They even let us keep the dog at the gift shop while we did the cavern tour. Would definitely return!

this is the only round barn located right on route 66…read more The barn is split into two sections, the second floor which is empty and where you can marvel at the architecture of the round ceiling, and the bottom where it serves as a museum and gift shop. When i first walked to the second floor, i was amazed and awestruck. i couldn't believe something like this existed, much less that it was located right on the historic route 66. I saw some holes which allowed sunlight in, and the i made a comment to my wife.... i wonder what happens when it rains. I guess they clean up the floor once the rain stops the next day, and you could smell the old wood. I really wish they could fix the roof and ensure this structure remains intact for years to come. As for the bottom, there are interesting trinkets and items for sale. Everything you buy here helps support the barn. Cool historic items to see inside. Apparently, this barn was rebuild roughly 40 years, since it collapsed simply due to age. While its looking a lot better, they definitely need more restoration on it for sure. There are some parking stops located right across the route 66, and more near the back of the barn. If you park right across the barn, you can walk over and take a picture of the Arcadia route 66 sign on the group.

This is one of the Crown Jewels of Route 66 in Oklahoma…read more You know I'm gonna back up that claim. But first, did you know the longest stretch of still-drivable Route 66 is in Oklahoma? In the last few years I've driven on short parts of what remain of Route 66 in all the states it passes through westward, from Missouri to California. From what I've seen, no state celebrates the Mother Road better than Oklahoma. And the beautiful Arcadia Round Barn is one of the most memorable stops on Route 66 as it passes through Oklahoma. If the first thing you want to know is Why is the barn round?, you're going to find out inside. You'll learn that the earliest Round Barns were constructed by the religious group known as The Shakers. And you'll learn how much easier Round Barns are to build (requiring as few as two men), and how much more economical they are than rectangular barns. The barn has two levels. The top floor originally was used to hold feed, and has a built in door in the middle of the room so the feed could be gravity fed to the animals below. These days the top floor is empty, and is rented out for weddings and whatnot. The bottom floor is chock full of local history. The volunteers that run the Round Barn have created kind of a time capsule you can walk around in. There are artifacts collected over a hundred year time frame. Everything from a High School Graduating Class project that documented the lives of the area's earliest settlers, to the farming implements and household tools they used in their daily lives. In addition to all the vintage Americana, there are plenty of examples of work by local contemporary artists for sale, as well as the usual Route 66 souvenir items you see for sale at just about every stop along the highway. This was my second visit to the Arcadia Round Barn. This time I spent about a half hour walking through the place. I spent far longer on my first visit. After I had a good look around I struck up a conversation with the volunteer that was working that day. I was looking to buy some Route 66 stickers and she told me where to find them. They had just what I was looking for. I paid the lady and I was out the door. A minute later I was in my car, back on 66, headed for my next adventure. Mikey C says: Come check this place out!
