This boat was absolutely beautiful, clean and spacious - and ready for our private 6 person charter. Captain and his wife were so hospitable and friendly. The really neat thing about this is the charter can be as informational (not not) as you'd like it to be. The family has been in St Augustine for quite a while and has tons of experience out on the water. They also know all the cool spots to visit in town, and they're happy to share. They took us on a nice long ride all up/down the coast of the historic city and pointed out some neat spots and wildlife along the way. We even got to see some young dolphins playing! Definitely would recommend checking out PIA if you're looking to see a different side of St Augustine. Affordable, friendly and fun!

My first was awesome and I did get the opportunity to learn a lot about Duval County history. I also love the random painted frogs that are randomly placed outside the adjacent park. Ironically, these are compliments of a local artists who painted them and took the time to randomly place them. They also have a gift shop where a few painted frogs are available for purchase. I managed to purchase one after my visit. If you love learning about history within Duval Cointy, then I highly suggest this type of museum.

She wrote Uncle Toms Cabin which was an important anti-slavery book at the time. She would create the clay statues at the Old Post Office in front of people over months. The cost of the "old wax process" then, bronzing, would be thru donations and be around $175k! I never thought our little museum would be able to raise that money but they did and the pre-unveiling was tonight; tomorrow is the public unveiling. The 3 pieces are beautiful; a masterpiece for Duval County! Brenda worked 1,000's of hours creating the treasure.

The museum is run by volunteers, and there are usually more than one staffing the location when it is open, so you have a lot of minds there to reference when exploring the history of Clay county and what happened in earlier times. Inside, there are plenty of exhibits showing how life was in Clay county, exploring how society has changed over the years and detailing both the highs and lows of what the people and leaders of those times did. This tour was probably the activity I was most excited to attend during this trip. I have been…read morewaiting years and years to take my son but either I had work that day or my son had school that day. And I wasn't about to call out of work since my job was right around the corner. I have been on a few tours but haven't seen many tour guides this knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the place they are presenting. Gary, our tour guide and the president of this company, was dressed in costume as Andrew Jackson, whom the city was named after. Did you know he was state governor? Me neither. The tour my son and I attended was the Tuesday tour which takes you to a rooftop view as well as the underground view in a tunnel and underground vault. Sadly the restaurant in the tunnel and the top floor cafe in the bank of america building were no longer there (but good thing I took my son to both places years ago!), but we still go to learn tons about the city and saw some cool places. We went to a rooftop restaurant with a gorgeous view of the river. It was on a day that it was closed, so the tour group had the place to ourselves. Afterwards, we went downstairs and down into tunnels from one building to another. In one of the tunnels, we went to an underground vault only accessible through the tour. The door to the vault was still functional. It was really cool to open it and see some historic documents inside, and then surprisingly a fallout shelter! Along the path, we discussed some historical photos and learned about the changes in the city throughout the decades as well as some interesting historical tidbits, such as the city's previous life as the hub of movie industry during the silent era. Afterwards, we checked out some of the murals by James Weldon Johnson Park (named after the civil rights activist and writer) and learned about the original sculpture that inspired one of the murals. The sculpture "Lift Every Voice and Sing," named after the James Weldon Johnson poem, was created by the local artist Augusta Savage from Green Cove Springs. I really appreciate the inclusion black historical residents on this tour. This is something that history books rarely mention. Great tour, super informative, fun and interesting. I look forward to trying one of the other tours in the future.
