Best place to visit and treat yourself with all best quality of chocolate and Ice Cream

We'd just finished eating a tasty brunch at the nearby Undefined and figured we should try to get something for dessert. Chocolat on James seemed like a perfect solution, since we could get something sweet but not insanely filling. A quick perusal of their many offerings led me directly to their Tortoise, so I went with the milk chocolate version and it was fantastic. I've always been a fan of turtles (who isn't, really?) and this was absolutely one of the best versions I've ever had. The chocolate was delectable and the pecans and caramel inside was just as good. I'm almost glad that Chocolat on James is so far away from my apartment, because I could see myself eating those Tortoises on a daily basis. read more

This shop has quickly become my favourite chocolate shop. It has unique offerings that are so good from peanut butter s'mores to strawberry infused ruby chocolate coated caramels to milk chocolate covered salted caramel marshmallow bars to cookie dough stuffed chocolate covered Oreos. If those sound too decadent for you, go for the dark chocolate sea salt bar or anything else in the shop. Literally everything here is awesome and I'm confident you'll love it. Why am I so confident? Because I love it and more than just me, everyone I have introduced it to loves it as well. I even have a friend that has had a favourite chocolate store for 30 years and while that shop has some things she still likes, she said Chocolat on James now ranks #1 on her list of chocolate shops as well. read more

I ordered a latte large, the price was 4.95 with tax it should have been 5.59 but I got charged 7.20 ( I paid with cash) if u pay with credit, they charge an extra 1.39% to your bill FYI. the place was dirty and messy and the latte was meh. I don't mind paying a pretty penny for a decent cup of coffee, but I don't like being cheated because I am in a rush. I will not be coming back. read more

This place is OH so great! So unique, well priced and of course delicious. There's a variety of items to choose from chocolate covered truffles, to candy and lots of ice cream. In terms of their ice cream it's very well set up. They have a chart where you can select pre determined flavor combinations or make your own. You can pick your ice cream flavor, the melted chocolate you'd like and then your toppings. It's perfection! My only recommendation is to have your ice cream in a cup VS a cone because it can get really messy, but other then that you're good to go. read more

Pretty decent place with lots of chocolate varieties to choose from (obviously). I got the hot apple cider which was tasty. The white chocolate latte on the other hand was mediocre (Lindt's is better). Also tried some of the chocolate covered truffles which were good but kind of pricey for the size. I regret that I didn't take a picture of the dipping options. There's like 12 different dips I chose nutty buddy which had hazelnut, dark chocolate nuts etc. we tried the cheesecake dip which was an original New York cheesecake slice on a stick dipped into a mix of your choosing. Yes it is still in the minus degree weather - but I will forever be an ice cream fan, travelling around trying all the ice cream that I can, whenever I want! I had been eyeing Chocolat on James since the summer time (when I should have really been eating ice cream). I was craving some soft serve and chocolate as well - so I thought I'd pop into Chocolat on James to see what they had going on. I swear we were looking around and deciding on what to get for at least 20 minutes because I wanted everything! They have truffles, all types of chocolate covered things, coffees/hot drinks of all sorts, and of course ice cream! Their ice cream set up is pretty awesome - you pick your ice cream flavour, pick your melted chocolate flavour topping and then pick your toppings on top of all of that! I chose twist ice cream (chocolate & vanilla) with melted dark chocolate, with skor bits and peanut butter cups on top - all in a cup. Honestly it was exactly what I was looking for to curb my sweets craving! I love the idea of having the chocolate shell with the toppings for a nice crunch and the soft serve ice cream underneath. Just what I needed. I also know where I can come and get a nice chocolate treat as a gift (because who doesn't want chocolate as a gift?!) or maybe grab something small when I need my chocolate fix. The first time I came here, they were only opened for 2 weeks. I thought it was a brilliant addition to James Street in Hamilton. The artisan chocolates were fresh and there were samples that were offered of the fudge. This shop is considered less expensive than the other artisan shops in Toronto. Chocolates that are offered are fudge, truffles, barks and novelty designs for gifts or to enjoy. I thought the fudge tasted delicious as a sample. In addition, I purchased malt balls that were literally twice the size of normal Maltesers as well as chocolate wrapped around ginger. The malt balls were delicious. The ginger chocolate was sweet, had a bit of ginger, but not as strong as I normally enjoy it. Purchasing both packs of roughly 100g each, my total was about $8 including tax. read more

This review is for their ICE CREAM ONLY the chocolate and coffee are fine and service is friendly but JESUS LORD the new dipped soft serve is a huge fail. The main problem is that the chocolate coating for the cones is too thick to bite into, the cone turns into a massive melty mess, and if by some stroke of luck you can finish the thing, you hate yourself afterwards. It's like no one making them has actually tried to eat them. I feel nauseated after 3 bites, and by the time I can get through the damn coating, my soft serve is half melted and running down my arm. If they could make their dips 1/8 as thick, and add some creative toppings, I would certainly be back. But for now my last cone from them is where it belongs: the garbage. read more

This is a candy store, not a chocolate store. For the Hamilton market with very few chocolate stores, this is adequate. For high quality chocolate, go elsewhere (my fav being Soma). This store uses Merkens chocolate to make their candies, unlike other stores that use the higher end Callebaut or Valrhona chocolate. And you can certainly taste the difference in quality! But if you just want something sweet that looks more pretty than the grocery store KitKat, this place will do. Their truffles are imported from somewhere in the States, they don't make them in house. (Everything else is made in house). On the plus side, the truffles are pretty cheap. On the down side, they taste very average. Went here for ice cream after dinner. The person making it dipped it wrong and after stirring the chocolate dipped it again. This made the ice cream start melting right away. When she handed it to me, she said "good luck" It was melted right away, messy and difficult to enjoy. It was a total waste of $7. Tasty little chocolate shop on busy James St N. This place is super cute. I have yet to try the ice cream, but it does look delicious. They have a variety of different kinds of chocolate, and I'm a sucker for dark chocolate. I have only tried one or two of their truffle flavours (caramel and peanut butter I believe) and they were quite rich, very tasty. I personally really like their homemade turtles (dark or milk chocolate, both are good) and theit in-house peanut butter cups. I recently bought two bars, for my bf and I. They were the milk chocolate skor and the dark chocolate Reese's bar. Both were very tasty and the chocolate qas heavenly. Also highly recommend their chocolate covered espresso beans. Their coffee is from Balzacs and they offer a wide range of chocolates from truffles to fudge for a reasonable price! The coffee wasn't that special but I had a well made iced Americano for only $2! Their chocolates looked good and I'd love to go back and try some of them. The server was also very friendly. read more

I went to chocolat on james on a cold winters day with my two girl friends who came out of town. I wanted to show em a good time in the ol hammer so spent some time researching a spot to hit up. this place had decent reviews but our experience was a sub par. first off, we went there and they had the menu up for ice cream but we were disappoint to find that they had zero options. false advertisement for sure, like going to mcdonalds only to find out that their mcflurry machine is broken. furthermore, to ease the deep endless ice cream shaped hole in our stomachs, we ordered an assortment of chocolate to which we sat and consumed since there was a table that welcomed. the rich chocolate eased our wounds but didnt heal them. however, we were in search of a tall cold glass of milk to compliment the experience but to no avail. it was more dissatisfying than your first sexual experience. alas my poor friend rose had to suffer from a parched throat as there was no beverage to quench her thirst. read more
