Chocolate. Coffee. These words are enough to bring me in to any shop and Chocolate Dude Coffee & Candy did not disappoint. The dark chocolate peanut creation that I had was delicious and the shop has all the right tools to make great coffee as well. At the time we went they were still getting underway, so I wont review the coffee at this time, but I'll be back. Coffee places in Nob Hill are sadly lacking since Ecco closed. Chocolate Dude has the opportunity to change this. The shop space is inviting and relaxing, with plenty of comfy couches and chairs set around. Lava lamps bubble away and a very well done VW bus grille carved in wood happily smiles at the customers. While enjoying the shop, you can watch the owner practicing his craft (at the time he was dipping entire skewers of marshmallows into milk and dark chocolate). I can't imagine a candy store that doesn't get an A but Chocolate Dude gets an A+. You walk in and you smile you can't help it!! Chocolate everywhere! Then you see THE Candy Apple case and remember why you walked that extra mile during your workout. I recommend the pecan caramel and take them up on their offer to cut it, not necessarily to share but rather to eat smarter and quicker. You can grab candy to go but we like to grab a coffee, snuggle up on one of the couches and people watch. You even get to see as they make the chocolate goodness. All I can say is have a caramel apple! You'll never forgive yourself if you don't! This review may be somewhat biased since of all the deserts in existence caramel apples with nuts are my favorite! This place has a sweet cozy vibe and you'll leave smelling like chocolate! I appreciate how they engage with different community organizations- I've been there a few times and they've had different artists and musicians. The only thing keeping me from going there frequently is the parking situation-- I think it's either paid parking on Central or maybe some parking in the garage under the building. Dark Chocolate PB Cup - The PB tasted like an "all-natural PB" and I'm not sure that I would choose it again. If I did, I would get the milk chocolate instead for an extra kick of sweetness. Dark Chocolate Orange Truffle - One of my favorite flavor combinations and the perfect treat for me! Dark Chocolate Covered Oreo Fudge - This was my least favorite. The fudge didn't taste quite right and I couldn't put my finger on why.... Milk Chocolate Covered PB Fudge - My Favorite by far! This Fudge had the perfect flavor and of course tasted great with the chocolate covering. I wish more places sold Fudge cut to the size of a Truffle because it was the perfect amount! I'm definitely an inhabitant of this city in particular. There are certain maxims for we Burqueños, behaviors and ways of life we simply absorb after years of inhabiting the place. Throw some Hershey's under my nose and I'm like, Oh No You Didn't. It's one of a short list of things upon which I shall never compromise. All-you-can-eat sushi? I'll investigate it. Cheap choco is a non-starter. Chocolate Dude delivers precisely what my taste buds seek in forms that make my knees wobble. Pretzels, truffles, caramels, fudge, brittles, it just don't stop, at prices that definitely fit. The place is also a cafe that serves very sipable caffeine and the most decadent hot cocoa you'll ever meet. Two dudes run the place, they're virtually always there, crafting the treats behind the counter for your viewing pleasure. Oh, and you gotta see the caramel apples. Unsightly, in that once you look, you'll fall victim. This a great alternative to your everyday coffee shop, a place to grab a sweet treat with your friends and relax in Nob Hill. I really want to like The Chocolate Dude. I love the atmosphere and seeing the treats being made, etc. However, I've been in there several times recently and overheard two workers complaining about another worker. It's always the same two young ladies who are doing the gossiping. I can't help but feel sorry for the mysterious third worker...it must be awful to be gossiped about and having customers hear it. How unprofessional...and how uncomfortable for a customer that just wants some chocolate goodness. Yikes! It's certainly bad for business to hear office gossip. Its pretty awesome to see the owner making the chocolate treats and he is incredibly friendly. The whole place is pretty psychedelic. Hail to the Dude! Chocolate Dude that is... I was in desperate need of a Valentine's Day gift and after a few taps and swipes I came across this gem. Clearly the younger, college crowd already knew about Chocolate Dude but this was my first time. A really hip joint with places to hang out whether it be sitting at a small table or lounging on a couch. The chocolate choices were pretty cool and thankfully they had a menu on the wall to kind of explain everything and the nice lady who took my order explained the rest. Seeing as how it was almost Valentine's Day I was not surprised to see some of them sold out but there was still plenty to choose from! Oh, did I mention that they had a $5 for $10 deal on Yelp also?! I grabbed that up, as well as my free pretzel for checking in! Chocolate Dude has been here for me since June when I started training in the ABQ. It's a chill environment for me to grab a coffee, some Dude Food, HECK, maybe even some fudge, and immerse myself into my books. It's good to be back in a city that has late evening coffee shops/eateries. They've been missing from my life for some time and it's good to have it back. The music is always on, laid back, and fantastic. I commend the owner on his taste in music (he is a former local musician gone chocolatier. They make it all in house, and it is tasty and exceptional. White, Milk, and Dark, if those are your flavors then they have you covered. I've tried little bits of most, and I've yet to be disappointed. It's all weighed and sold that way. The price is right for what you're getting. I'll continue to sit at Chocolate Dude when I need to focus. Especially because I love it local, and Chocolate Dude fits my M.O. Great addition to Nob Hill - a unique shop with great treats. The owner is one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I met him first through his involvement with Bailey's and was eagerly anticipating chocolate dude's opening. I think I've sampled just about everything in the joint. the Chucacabra crunch is probably my favorite. #2 for me would be the "oreo" type cookie candies. All the fudges are good. Really like that you can watch them making some of the goodies and that cabinet work near the cash register is legit! I know it's easy to get carried away with 5 star yelp ratings, but Chocolate Dude has it all - great products, great owner, great location. I hope it is here to stay. read more
