What a little gem this shop is!! Like the little machine that could, they create their beautiful and delicious concoction one small batch at a time. We were lucky enough to see how they do it from the inside. Love their passion and care the two dudes put into their love of chocolates and the Krack!!! Oh my! This is a little gem tucked away off of Osuna west of Jefferson. We first found them at the Coffee and Chocolate shows and we're impressed by the overall quality of the products they produce. The chocolate is high grade and smooth. The chocolates that have caramel, such as turtles, are amazing. The caramel isn't too sweet and soft. You won't have to worry about pulling out a filling. They also make a sinful concoction called Timmy Krack Korn Puffs. The term "krack" certainly applies. You have one package and you're hooked. It comes in different flavors both sweet and savory and some with heat. Parmesan and garlic is great with soup. This is a small business that usually depends on shows and festivals for the bulk of their business. They do sell through the Keller's stores which is where we usually stock up. Try them. Unbeknownst to me, these two great guys had been quietly crafting unf@ckingbelievable cocoa-riffic treats in this city for the better part of 20 years. Yes, 20. And they host these incredible hands-on events at their chocolate factory, near I-25 and Osuna. The events are free, but you'll need to gather a group of 6-10 people. You'll sample virtually any sweet treat you wish, you'll dip your own caramels in chocolate, you'll sample their infamous Timmy Krack Korn (no, this has nothing to do with the band) before, during and after it's baked. The entire evening lasts about 90 minutes. Trust me on this: your teeth will never rot so good. They don't have a storefront, per se, but they sell wholesale at the factory. They also sell their truffles, turtles, and other goodies at Keller's Meats and the Cinnamon Sugar & Spice Cafe. But go to the factory, bring some friends. You won't forget it. Twenty years into this thing, Elixir Chocolates remains a relatively undiscovered, and delightful sweet find in the 505. (But don't take my word for it. So, the weird thing is, I have bought deliciousness from these guys previously without knowing it. Then they had a Yelp event, and I bought some more. And then I saw them at the Rio Grande craft fair and bought some more. And the next time I see them I will buy again. There is literally no reason not to shell out a few bucks for this mouth happiness (unless you have some allergy that will literally result in your death - mere puffiness and difficulty breathing is not enough to refrain...) I am a huge chocolate fan, because - duh. Their chocolates are phenomenal. Nuff said. However - let me just tell you: CRACK. The caramel corn stuff they make is CRACK. This is not something I would normally say is a weakness for me. In this case, I made a MASSIVE exception. I watched the (extremely friendly and lovely) guy making it, and I'm pretty sure I know the ingredients, but somehow they slipped in some CRACK while I was not looking. It's RIDICULOUSLY delicious. I could truly eat it all day long. But that would be counterproductive, so it's a good thing they are across town... I bought a few brittles and will do so again. Their chocolates are delicious, as I said, but in my opinion the New Mexico selection of brittles with pinon nuts and chiles is the way to go. Well, that and the CRACK caramel corn. Ridiculous... I discovered this company at a trade show in Colorado. They really do have a wonderful product. What they don't do is pay attention to details when you place an order. They even have a form to fill out if your shipping address and billing address are different. I ordered some product from them for a friends celebration in a different state. Imagine my surprise when those items showed up at my home instead of the east coast. Too late to make any corrections with the people at Elixir, I ordered different products from a different company and paid the extra coins to get it there on time. Timmy krack Korn Puffs - Original Recipe This stuff is like CRACK. A sales rep brought some in for us to show her appreciation for the support that my staff and I provide. I had a taste and immediately went online and purchased 4 bags to get free shipping. I shared with the entire office and they put in orders for a few other things as well. If you're getting orders to Pleasanton, you're welcome! HAHA. The original flavor is sweet, salty and a bit of savory. The corn is so airy and soft but the glaze does give a nice crunch. They are just so delicious. In a perfect world you wouldn't share these and everyone would have their own bag. LOL. Of the 4 bags purchased I got 2 original, 1 coconut macadamia, 1 habanero. The original is still my most favorite. The habanero comes in 2nd. Nice cool burn at the end. Not too overpowering. It's compliments the treat very well. The coconut macadamia is good but a bit on the sweeter side. Still very good though! These are amazing. Keep it up! read more

I was ripped off and I'll never order from these people again. Sure, it's important to support small businesses during these "trying times" but now is also the time, apparently, to be wary of ripoffs. I live two states away and was charged $14.00 for shipping. When I got the package, I noticed that the box weighed only 12 ounces. I've mailed over 75,000 packages over the course of my 20 years in business and I know shipping rates. This arrived in a free Priority Mail box that cost them $7.90 to mail. They didn't even have to spent that much. The real cost of shipping for this order, going as a First Class Package, should have been $5.45. So I paid $14.00 for something that should have cost me $5.45. These were some damn expensive candies, and the candy was not "wow" worthy anyway. Needless to say, I'll be staying away from here, both in a mail-order sense and in person (I go to ABQ quite regularly). As a business owner myself, I realize the importance of supporting smaller enterprises, but don't let sympathy and a feeling of obligation to help get in the way of sensible shopping. Not. Even. Sure. Where. To. Start.... Simply put, please visit Elixir. Small local joint that's been in operation for 20 years and offers all handmade sweets with really high quality ingredients. Why bother getting treats from the 'big guys' when you can literally meet the guys that make this chocolate? 2 dudes make everything, ok there's another dude that makes the Timmy Crack Corn in the back too. The location is really strange, it's a commercial kitchen in a traditional office space. Blink and you'll miss the small showroom, but that's not even the coolest part. The coolest part is that you can have a private wine and chocolate tasting with your family or friends! Just give them a call and they invite you into the kitchen to see how it all comes together. You bring the wine, they provide some snacks. This is followed by a tour where they show you where everything is made. You also get to try your hand at dunking caramels or filling truffles. Spoiler alert: yours won't be as pretty so you get to eat them at the end!!! You're able to taste just about every chocolate that they make including the newest flavor strawberry balsamic. Did I mention that all of this is FREE?! Oh need another reason to book? How about this.... all three gentlemen are former theater people and present hysterically and with unbelievable passion. It's obvious they love this job. They are retired and this is what they do for fun! It's impossible not to fall in love with them, the chocolate, and the story. Sorry folks, this chocolate is passable but not excellent. There is a balance that all food vendors have to achieve, they have to create a product whose goodness is worth the price that they are asking for it and this is where Elixir fails so badly. t doesn't matter that the chocolates are "handmade", these chocolates are OK in taste but are unbelievably expensive. Seriously, they are charging more than what we pay in San Francisco or New York City for chocolate that is better than Elixir, so obviously this makes no sense. The pieces of chocolate are extremely small, for what you get you are paying for gold my friends, and this is not a gold standard product, in fact there are now store-bought dark chocolate that are easily as good as these but for a fraction of the price. I normally only buy hand made gourmet chocolate but these prices make it impossible to enjoy this shop. If you think that they have some magical ingredients that somehow makes this a better product then you are wrong my friend. As inarguable proof, just pick up a box of their Dark Chocolate Pecan Turtles (I have one in emu hand right now) and look at the ingredients list. You'll see that there are additional ingredients (corn syrups, flavorings, emulsifiers, colorings and extract) that we do not want. The next time you (or a friend) go to San Francisco or New York City pick up (or have them pick up for you) the same exact product, then compare the ingredients. You'll see that the finest chocolate shops do not have any additional ingredients other than dark chocolate, organic pecans, vanilla bean and sugar. Thats all they have! There are no additional additives because the truly gourmet chocolates are made freshly several times a day and they are carefully crafted so no additional ingredients are needed. Try it for yourself and you'll see that Elixir does not taste as good as world class chocolate yet they charge more than world class prices for it, which makes no sense at all. We deserve world class chocolate (in larger sizes than the tiny pieces that Elixir gives you) properly executed (the turtles we purchased we brought home, their other chocolates were eaten on the spot) which our turtles were not, they had erratic blotches of chocolate barely holding the pecans together so each bite was very inconsistent. Test it for yourself and decide if you want to pay triple or more for something that you can get elsewhere for a fraction of the price. read more

My work place just recently moved in next to this shop. Was curious but didn't have to wonder long- one of the owners came by to welcome us to the neighborhood - and came with goodies in tow! It was such a pleasant unexpected gesture. And now already has all of our staff hooked! He brought by his signature Timmy Crack Corn - which I obsessively ate until it was gone. I have never tasted a sweet corn so amazing (and I love this kind of confection) - light and not over sugared, texture was perfect, and the flavor blending was just superb. I didn't stop thinking about it until I got my hands on some more - the name, while weird at first, totally fits this delicious delight - but be warned, you cannot stop! He also brought by a delightful mix of truffles with very unique combinations. My other favorite thing I have gotten here are the salted caramels- another weakness of mine. They had amazing creaminess that not all salty caramels achieve and the chocolate pairing was spot on. If you are looking for higher quality confections, this is your place! read more
