Chocolate House is located directly across from the Grand Ducal Palace near Place d'Armes. Look for the uniformed armed guard standing watch in front of their guard shack and he is looking right at the front door of CH.
I was walking by doing the tourist thing and saw their restaurant menu board in front showing traditional Luxembourg food and thought why not? Besides it was lunchtime after all.
Walking inside I noticed that the first floor was actually the chocolate shop with a winding staircase going up to the next floor where the restaurant was. Going upstairs, there was a one room casual restaurant that looked warm and inviting.
I ordered the Kniddelen mat Speck a Rahm entree for 18€. Yeah, that name is a mouthful. I also ordered a Coke Zero and for this first time since I arrived in Europe a week before, it was served in a large glass rather than a small bottle. Yeah!
The entree arrived and rather than repeating the name let me tell you what was in it. It was a bowl of flour dumplings with bacon pieces in a white cream gravy that was delicious. Seriously it was very good tasting and was both hearty and filling. A great cold weather dish.
Thinking I was finished, I was looking again at the menu and saw their dessert ice creams. I thought I am dining in the Chocolate House and haven't had anything sweet. So I ordered the Mystery of the White Lady for 14.90€. I really didn't need to eat this (after that lunch meal) but I wanted to.
It was vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and meringue in a tall glass jar. Oh did it look good! Oh, did it taste so good! Yummy!
I really enjoyed my visit here. Delicious food and dessert.
P.S. I had no stomach room left to stop in the chocolate shop downstairs as I left....but I wanted to. read more
