Chocolate soup is my favorite place to go in Mariposa. There are so many amazingly wonderful gifts to buy, art, silk flowers, garden things, special occasion, decorations, a room full of amazing children's toys another of hard to find, but very useful cooking equipment. I could spend all day browsing around inside @ Chocolate Soup or sitting outside and enjoying the trees, flowers, and nearby creek. My friend and I arrived at opening time and were greeted by friendly staff members who were still preparing things for the day. There is so much to see. So many alcoves, nooks, crannies, and shelves to explore. We both found items for our friends and loved ones back home. Many of the pieces are from local artists. The rooms are organized by theme and/or season which makes shopping a bit easier. Make sure to stop and ask the staff about the history of the store, it's name, and the building. read more

Cute boutique shop in downtown Mariposa. We were intrigued by the name of the shop. They do not specialize in chocolates, but they have an eclectic mix of decorative items, candles, furniture, greeting cards, etc. The shop employees were super welcoming and friendly. Really cute store where I found my favorite coffee mugs. I had to go back to get another one when visiting. The mugs by Lisa (owner's sister) are wonderful. Lots of cute stuff inside and great art upstairs featuring local artists. Definitely a place to visit when traveling through or staying in town. This is an adorable store! My mother and I stopped here on our way back home to Nevada. As it turned out it was the first day of their Christmas inventory. We enjoyed a chocolate fountain, samples of scones and hot chocolate, met a local writer, and of course had fun poking around "the cabin", the potting shed, and main store. You can get all kinds of goodies - ornaments, knick knacks, table runners, dips, kitchen utensils, toys, etc. We were here over an hour poking around. It was very nice. There's a nearby public bathroom if the need arises. (Just a 30 second walk up a small hill). Make this a stop on your itinerary for unique, vintage, or fun items you can't find just anywhere. (Fun fact: my mother bought an ornament that we saw later that day in Jackson and it was $5 less at Chocolate Soup - so great deals too!) read more

We recently spent a week in Mariposa. Initially, we were worried that we wouldn't find enough fun things to do. We were pleasantly surprised to find that Mariposa is a happening town. We ate at all the restaruants there and each one was totally delicious. We visited all the shops on the downtown strip, which were varied and chuck full of items. The last place we shopped was the Chocolate Soup House, which is at the end of town. It was amazing. We spent almost 3 hours there, as there is so much to see. By the time we left, we had 4 large bags full of goodies. They have the most unusual things for the home and garden, as well as food items and apparel. I want to go back during Christmas break. I am hoping the place will be packed with decorations. If you haven't been to Mariposa or it has been a while, you can easily spend a week or two and the Chocolate Soup House is a must see. read more

Chocolate Soup is definitely the best place to go shopping for the holidays. It's just like walking into a house from a fairy tale. Lots of beautiful holiday magic! I wish I could describe how wonderful it looks when you walk into... but I'll let the readers find that out to persuade them to going in themselves. Driving from Bass Lake to Don Pedro Reservoir was enjoyable. Driving from Don Pedro back to Bass Lake (with a winery stop) was fun. However the true gem we found was an antique shop called Chocolate Soup. The owner was awesome, the prices very fair and the store contained new and old items that were outstanding! My only issue with this establishment was the difficulty I had in getting my wife out of the shop and back into the car! Although we don't live in the area we'll definitely find a way to visit the Chocolate Soup again. I can't believe no one has reviewed Chocolate Soup yet! My mom and I stop by here at least once during our annual weekly trip to Mariposa/Yosemite. The store itself is housed in a great old two story red house surrounded by a beautiful garden and lawn area, which back up to the creek. They have a huge selection of really interesting products, beautiful antiques, garden, kitchen and home goods, handmade furniture, books and kids items. I love the room at the top of the stairs. Go and you'll see what I mean. I always find a gift for a friend or family member, something for myself and something to covet for another time. The ladies who work here are always really nice and they offer an incentive card which I manage to forget to bring with me every year. Definitely stop here if you're staying in Mariposa or even on your way through to or from Yosemite! read more

First, you enter the grounds of gardens and some small little cottages that were stocked with all kinds of cute goodies for the home and main shop had a number of things for the home and a room for baby gifts, the art gallery on the top floor was nice. A diamond in the rough, this shop had an amazing combination of extremely fair prices and some of the best defined character I've seen spread out amongst several rooms that I've seen in, well, forever. The shop owner's attention to detail and skillfull, caring ability to coordinate items together in a cohesive and astetically pleasing manner were increasingly apparent upon visitation of each individual room! It was a very pleasant experience -- one which took me and my entire family by surprise given that the shop didn't look like anything special on the outside at first glance. Loaded with charm, every corner filled with something fun, new and vintage. Fabulously decorated, and the two out buildings are equally festive. The Christmas trees were gorgeous! I just visited Chocolate Soup for their Christmas open house. What a fun and unique shop! The new owners, Robbie & Mike Crowley, have done a great job transforming the place for Christmas. Loved the beautiful peacock tree in the spa area! The cabin is so charming with it's rustic items like the metal iron bear ornaments, bear lamp and cute vintage car wall decor that light up. The little cottage is so beautiful with its green, silver and white color scheme. It was so inviting I felt like I just wanted to sit on the pretty bench with a cup of tea and admire the beautiful Christmas tree. The main shop has something special in every nook and cranny. Besides the great Christmas items, you will find unique gifts for everyone. Take time to look at all the neat children items in the kids room and the kitchen has scone & chocolate mixes, olive oils and many unusual kitchen items. You will also find some nice antiques and handmade furniiture made by Colonial Woodwrights. If you are heading up to the Yosemite area be sure to stop at Chocolate Soup because it is surely one of the best gift stores in Mariposa! read more
