The chocolate is divine. It's high quality and each piece has rich flavors that taste fresh. Some people might balk at $3 for a truffle but it tastes like it's worth $3. The taste is luxurious. They change up the flavors every few months. I tend to not like chocolate that is too dark but here it isn't too strong. My favorites: Champagne-pretty heart shape and tastes very champagney Banana Fosters- Colorful and very flavorful Peanut Butter and Jelly-essential for peanut butter lovers Lavendar-it's like aromatherapy for your mouth The truffles remind me of Christopher Elbow in the city for quality but in a must less fancy setting and more obscure location. I always miss when this place is open and today, I finally got a chance to come in during open hours. they have a lot of dark chocolate that is not very sweetened, but still very rich. Delicious, locally handcrafted artisanal chocolates perfect for a gift or treat for a special occasion. Located on University in a small storefront, Chocolaterie appears very unassuming but is truly a Berkeley gem. I visited a few times in undergrad many years ago to pick up some gift boxes for friends and decided to stop by again for a truffle gift box for my graduate school mentor. You can either purchase in-person and personally choose your selection of truffles or order online and pick up the gift box. Though ordering online does not allow you to choose your truffles, their chocolates are all beautiful and you can't really go wrong with any of them. They're gorgeous and (almost) too pretty to eat ;) Their flavors are pretty unique as well, which makes eating the chocolates such an adventure. They have your classic truffles, as well as yuzu, chai, blueberry, and peanut butter jelly. Cost per truffle is very reasonable! I compared prices to other Bay Area chocolatiers and the cost per truffle at Chocolaterie is slightly lower than at competitors. read more

The chocolate varieties (i.e. pistachio praline, blueberry) are simple but seem to have an incredible amount of thought and consideration behind each one. Called and came in a touch after the 6pm closing time. Exceptional service and wonderful vibe, gentleman assembling the gift boxes was very sweet and even offered us each a sample. His favorite was the passion fruit caramel, and I can tell why! As someone who has worked in the chocolate/candy industry, the prices are very reasonable per truffle. We came to this little chocolate shop after lunch at Rose Pizza and it was such a nice experience! First of all, the owner is fantastic and offered us samples. I bought two boxes. He gave me extras to go home with. I can't say enough about how much I love this establishment. I have been coming to this location for 4 years for your passion fruit caramels and never have I ever had such a horrible experience as last weekend. The young woman working was horribly rude! She pulled out her phone to text while we were trying to order, she was very abrupt with us when she did address us, and it was very apparent that we were an huge inconvenience to her. Additionally her physical appearance was concerning to me being that the chocolate are on open display and this is a place of food service, but her hair was a mess and she looked like she rolled right out of bed to come to work.
