Not only was she responsible for this but was also having to handle some personal family situations at the same time. On day of funeral I arrived before anyone else had come in. I asked if I could go in to the viewing room to spend a few minutes alone with my boyfriend. The funeral director ,after finding that was not an actual family member, denied me that privilege. He stated that there policy was no one allowed till family viewed first. So I had to sit there alone for awhile ,about 30 minutes, till family arrived and then when doors were opened for me and several other people who had come in after the family arrived to view him I never got just the few minutes alone to say goodbye. I have never been to any funeral home that is operated like this with no caring or consideration to circumstances . This place is simply non caring and thankful I no longer have any relatives alive who might be taken to this establishment! It is nothing like D.O. McCombs & Sons used to be.

Literally the worst customer service. Losing a loved one is enough, but facing it with this joke of…read morea company is worse. We have always used do mccombs and it's really gone down hill since switching over to dignity memorial. Planning the funeral service felt impersonal, and took a whole heck of a lot longer than it should. Policy changes for cremation changed without us being informed and nearly everything we placed in the casket with my grandfather was removed. Staff during service huddled together in the office, rarely letting mourners into the funeral. To top it all off, we have to contact our own cemetery to set up the final service on our own.. for some reason this company feels like that's not something they should do for people spending over 8000 dollars on a ceremony. If I could give less stars, I would.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I feel compelled to share my family's experience with Midwest…read moreFuneral Home. To be clear, we tried to discuss all of this with management and after hearing our initial concerns we were told that they would "investigate" and we were advised to issue all correspondence in writing. We did and still received no response. Below you will find an outline of our concerns regarding the acts of negligence as they pertain to Midwest Funeral Home's care of our mother and grandmother and her arrangements. Our family matriarch left us on April 23, 2026. Midwest Funeral Home was chosen to handle all arrangements, and all correspondence was with my daughter. On April 24, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m. we visited Midwest Funeral Home to finalize arrangements. We had phoned prior and given a timeframe to arrive. Upon arrival we were directed to have a seat by the receptionist, and she would be right with us. Shortly after another couple came in and we were left waiting for at least 20- minutes while she dealt with them and didn't acknowledge us further until after they left. We signed all of the applicable paperwork and then were taken into the room to choose the casket. After picking out the casket, we had a short discussion with the receptionist present. At that time, I very clearly stated that I would like fingerprints taken as I wanted to have jewelry made. It was the only comfort I could imagine, as I would never again hold my mom's hand, but I could have her fingerprint. I was told that it would be no problem as this was a normal request and the receptionist said she would make a note of it. Which I believe she did on the spot. MY MOTHER'S FINGERPRINTS WERE NEVER TAKEN!! We did receive an apology and were offered $500.00. This blatant negligence is not anything that can be remedied. It also would seem after searching social media reviews that it's not the first time they've failed a loved one's family in this way. Our emotional suffering is priceless. The arrangements were to have my mother interred in a plot with my father at Eel River Cemetery. We had previously been informed by Midwest that we would need to make those arrangements and pay directly for all services related to opening the plot and closing it. This sounded absurd, especially when we were paying for funeral services, but in our grief, we were going through the motions. When asked who needed to be called, he couldn't recall the name but said it was a "monument place". We figured out who needed to be contacted on our own and made the arrangements. The woman that my daughter spoke with there was appalled that Midwest Funeral Home had the family making these arrangements. She also said that they absolutely knew who to call as they had previous dealings with him. My daughter continued to follow up with the Monument Sales, because we already had little confidence in the services we were receiving from Midwest Funeral Home. My daughter called the morning of 4/30/26, the day of the funeral service, just to make sure everything was being handled. At that time, she was told that Midwest had finally called her that morning for the first time. He has stated that he'd called multiple times and left messages. That has been verified as to be untrue. Our family is also very disturbed that you would find it acceptable for an employee of Midwest, to accompany our beloved mother and grandmother in the hearse, drive up to the graveside while having the window down and smoking while wearing gym shorts! How completely classless and disrespectful, not to mention humiliating to our family. Your website states, "Our goal at Midwest Funeral Home is to serve and assist families with compassion and dignified professionalism." Our family received none of that. We are requesting that you answer to your negligence and offer up an acceptable solution to our family. At this time, a "sorry" would seem insufficient especially since you're avoiding having any type of constructive conversation.

My Father had two funerals in two states. First here in Indiana and then again in Michigan at Wint…read morefuneral home in Clarkston MI, I think the review should be a contrast and compare of how Wint performed services and what this place provides, which I refuse to call it "service" 1. Staff communication At Wint funeral home - I was always able to reach a funeral director. They always were able to provide me with any information I required. At Hockenmeyer - we didn't receive any communication until FOUR days after my Fathers passing. Everytime I call, the person on the phone has to call me back or investigate before I am able to get an answer. 2. Facilities - Wint had multiple services performed on the same day and we never even bumped into the other parties. Very roomy, plenty of space for picture boards, decor etc. Hockenmeyer barely had room for a couple of poster boards & a few table décor. Don't be confused by the pictures at Hockenmeyer - place is very small. The room which was functional was decorated nicely enough. The other rooms at the home were non-functional. 3. Body preparation Wint was able to correct all of Hockenmeyers mistakes, which are to follow, four days after the Hack job did their thing and 11 days after expiration. Hack-job-meyer left his hands and face BLUE! It did NOT look like my Dad at all! Everyone who was present agreed. Poor job on the lips, blue in the face, hands, arms. Foundation makeup exists - just not at Hack-job-meyer Wint was able to correct not only the lips, but all of the coloring as well. 4. Death Certificate. This one gets it's own section - namely due to the lies and runaround Ive been given. I was told that the certificate first needs to go to funeral director, then to a doctor to affirm cause of death, and finally back to the funeral director before it is finalized. I get that, it's a process. First I called proactively after a week where I am told about the aforementioned process. I understand bureaucracy exists and things need to be done a certain way. I was then informed they have already sent it to the doctor for his approval and should receive it next week. A full week passes The following week I'm told over the phone by the funeral director that he is calling to affirm and correct spelling if needed - that it had already been signed by the doctor. Another week passes I call the home again where I am told it is now waiting on the doctor again!? Someone obviously lied to me. At this point it has been over three weeks and we have still not received any death certificates. For comparison, my Mothers was obtained within one week through Wint. I'm sure I wanted to spend time recalling a very few difficult days in my life, I could provide other examples. Just trust the one-star review and try to find another home to use. I can't recommend going ANYWHERE else enough.

They were very patient and gave us all the time we needed to make our decisions. The viewing was very well planned, and they helped us display our pictures etc. The following day they did an excellent job with the funeral. The one thing that stood out the most was when they arrived at my parents' home, they were so respectful at getting dad ready to leave with them. The care and respect they showed was amazing. Apon putting dad in the hearse, they stood there and waited at attention until the door was completely closed. The entire staff from beginning to end were so caring as if dad was their own loved one.
