I have to say the bad reviews are 100% accurate. Our student had no issues academically or with regards to conduct and completed primary grades in another Catholic school, we are familiar with the system. This is an honest review sharing points that I find valuable to know ahead of time as this is a huge commitment for families Let's be clear, there is no "brotherhood" here. This is a study in what politics and donations can do in EVERY aspect. If you are not donating (in addition to tuition), alumni or "legacy" you should expect nothing. We realized this a few months in and gave our child time to come to it on his own. Six months later, we left. It's a hard lesson..learn from ours. Here is what they do not tell you: *Not all families pay full tuition-so be prepared to take it on the chin subsidizing others while they continue to ask you for more. *The school is proud of how many families travel from all over the Sacramento area to attend-yet they do not respect families time. I'm not sure who can handle fluctuating start and end times each week, but it got old really quick. *Additionally, you will have additional trips to the school numerous times a year to satisfy other requirements for performing arts participation -when your child is not in performing arts. This may not sound like much, but it added up to extra HOURS for our family. *There are some really good teachers there, but a few that shared their views on racial issues too frequently. *A staff member was inclined to call and try and pick a fight to remind us that we signed and agreed to our son participating in what the school believes in when we questioned the safety of a required "volunteer" activity around homeless. A child is not a car contract , and parents never relinquish their rights by signing their kid up for school. If you are familiar with Catholic education, most schools acknowledge they are the secondary, behind parents in forming students. That is not the case here. *Be prepared that if you are not doing the extras above, your child will not see any real athletic opportunities for sports. These spots and spotlights are reserved for donors/alumni, etc. *They say they do not offer athletic scholarships. Yet, many kids are there because the school enticed them $ and openly share the details with other students. Several sleep in class and do not appear to want to be there or understand the opportunity given to them. * No surprise, drugs are on campus and the admin does a decent job addressing it. * They have no tolerance cheating policy which is great. But we lost count of how many messages we saw other students asking to copy our students' work. We thought we did our homework and jumped through every hoop-and for us it was a joke. We spent over 3 hrs a day commuting, + $ and we have no idea what it was for. Save your money for your child's college.

He had a really positive experience during his attendance, and I'm glad he ended up here. Originally, Arden wasn't part of our assigned school, but it seems boundaries were updated--and honestly, I was so relieved since Arden is the better option compared to other middle schools in the area, like Katherine Johnson. The campus does have a slightly "posh" feel, which initially made me a bit skeptical about how the environment and staffing might be, especially given some past issues I've had with staff at his previous elementary school. Thankfully, those concerns didn't turn out to be an issue. The front office staff were friendly whenever I interacted with them, and my son never had any complaints during his time here. Most importantly, the school feels safe and well-structured. One thing I really appreciated was the communication from teachers. My son had done well in math previously, so he was placed into a higher-level class when he started. However, he ended up struggling to keep up. His teacher proactively reached out and recommended moving him to a class that better matched his pace, and I was totally on board with it. That level of attentiveness and willingness to adjust made a big difference for us. As for logistics, drop-off and pick-up can be a bit hectic. There are often long lines of cars that spill out into the street, making it somewhat difficult to get in and out. That said, once you understand the flow, it's fairly straightforward. The only real downside I experienced was during the withdrawal process when we moved. There's a form that needs to be submitted, and it can take a few days to be reviewed or processed if staff are busy. In the meantime, I had to keep calling the attendance line daily to report absences, even though we had already moved out of state. Since it's an automated system, it wasn't always easy to get confirmation or assistance, which was a bit frustrating. Aside from that administrative hiccup, my experience with the school in person was always smooth. Overall, I'd say this is a solid and safe choice for a middle school, and from what I've seen of the curriculum and materials, students are receiving a good education here.

Counselor Sydnee Butcher needs training and support as an academic guidance counselor. Doesn't…read moresurprise me being trained by Elizabeth Irwin. When Sydnee first appeared last year, she was very vocal about change and supporting students. She stated she once was a student there and her experience there allowed her to identify areas of improvement. My experience with her is that is far from the truth. Sydnee doesn't perform any research nor does she fact check. She just blindly regurgitates what Elizabeth feeds her. My son is in a unique position and has aspirations for which he has set goals. While trying to reach those goals, Sydnee and Elizabeth have only worked to hold him back with hard stops. They are not helpful at all. You would think your academic guidance counselor wants students to succeed and instead of delivering hard stops, they will use their discretion (they have levels of discretion) to find ways and create opportunities to support that students success. If you are able to get your children into a different district. Please do so. You will not regret it. If you are not able, please listen to your children, the teachers and staff lack integrity.

Ha, I can't believe this is on here…read more Anyways, I am an EC Alumni who graduated in 2007 and was there my entire 4 year highschool career. If you're looking into this highschool for certain classes, they have your standard language classes, with Spanish and French. They took away Latin the year I wanted to take it though which was disappointing. Don't ask me about science classes or math, I hated both and scraped by on minimum credits when it came to these subjects. And English all 4 years was fun but my freshman teacher never liked me because I think she used to compare me to my older rowdier simblings, which was never fair. If you are aspiring in a career in art or music though, EC is the place to really be. You're allowed to take any of the art classes as long as you want, and the teachers are never afraid to let you excel and do what you really want to do. There was even a welding class I always wanted to take but never had time. I mainly took drawing/painting and ceramics while I was there as far as art and it was the best learning experience I've ever had. Anyway, I think Mr. Ratliff is still teaching ceramics and he teaches you everything you need to know and more. I'm taking ceramics in college and I seriously feel bored listening to the professor go on about things I already knew - that's how extensive his teaching goes. EC is also fun for it's guitar class, all kinds of choirs and fairly successful band classes. The only thing I hated was how unnecessarily strict they were when it came to certain things. I came from a MIDDLE SCHOOL of all places that allowed you to dye your hair any color you pleased, EC does not tolerate unnatural hair colors and will put you in Saturday school, which sucks. They were also much more strict with the dress codes. I felt like a child even at 18 for not being able to tdo something as simply dying my hair how I wanted. And if it seems like you're driving fast in the parking lot, they give you a speeding ticket issued by the highway patrol. I have friends who learned this the hard way who weren't even speeding. As far as the students, it was a great experience because EC wasn't one of those stereotypical "clique" schools. Sure I had weird hair, wore a studded belt and a band t-shirt, but I hung out with all kinds of kids who would probably be considered "preps", "jocks" or even "nerds." It also allowed me to make friends beyond the kids I went to middle or elementary school with which is great as well.

Not that it's anyone's fault, that's just how thirteen year olds are. Fortunately (and unfortunately) I was a member of the former group. Hence I really hated it. But social issues aside, Churchill was a pretty good school. It is one of the few schools that offers both the AP program and the IB program. It is well known for its science and math clubs and the English department is pretty strong, too. I definitely learned a lot from my English teachers. I can't really remember many of my teachers except one. The Worst History Teacher Ever. I don't know if Mr. Unmack still works there, but he was the lousiest teacher I've had. He was always cranky and unreasonable and I didn't learn much. He had kids bring in "career models" every Friday to speak in front of the class for the whole period, so he actually never had to teach for 1/5 of the time. If your kid has Mr. Unmack, I suggest looking for an alternative schedule.
