My initial review of this dojo was based on the fact that I could not get them to return phone…read morecalls. Since that review Mater Buckholz has changed how he chooses to do business and return to his roots of providing high quality programs while living and imparting his values through the work that he does teaching MA. I decided to make a stop at the new dojo to inquire about Tai Chi lessons and had a great chat with Master Buckholz. He invited me to come join a class to see how I liked it and I REALLY did. Master Buckholz's teaching style is humble and carefully thought out to impart not just the knowledge of the form, but the importance of the WHY and HOW. He is patient and demonstrates his love for the art of Tai Chi through his encouragement of, and humble attitude toward, his students. In the four weeks since I have been attending his weekly Tai Chi program, I have made great progress (in my eyes...perhaps not anyone else's) and have a much deeper understanding of not only the Tai Chi form, but a better understanding of what Tai Chi is and how it can help me. I love his desire to get us to understand for form, not just be able to replicate the movements. I'm a fan and I look forward to a long relationship with the team at One Tree MA. They teach Yoga here as well.

One Tree Martial Arts is pretty much my favorite place to be. I've been taking classes since I was…read morefive years old (almost ten years), and watching my brother since I was two. I love the classes! I always have fun learning what's next in the curriculum. And pushing my ability to get out of the comfort zone that I used to like to hide in. I like that we learn how to actually defend ourselves, and others, in a real life situation. It makes me feel more confident. The instructors are so very helpful and Willing to talk to and help people. I have learned so much on my journey to black belt and now realizing that even after black belt, THE FUN DOESN'T STOP!! I highly recommend One Tree Martial Arts!!! If you like learning new cool techniques, pushing yourself just a little to where you feel the results, maybe a couple jokes in class. YOU WILL LOVE THIS!

I would like to explain why my son is no longer involved with this organization. My 11 year old son…read morecame home from karate class limping and unable to put his legs together. He proceeded to show me a big purple welt on his inner thigh, given to him by his 7th degree 'master'. The instructor was demonstrating bear-hug defense and purposely pinched my son extremely hard on his inner thigh, leaving a painful purple welt and leaving my son questioning why a trusted, respected teacher of martial arts would inflict needless pain on him. As a parent and a student of martial arts, I needed to know as well. 'Master' Jim explained to me on the phone, that by his choice, he does those things to the children to "toughen the kids up". How about wind sprints until puking? How about kicking a pad until you can't lift your leg?? You take it upon yourself to physically hurt our children with your own hands? 'Master' Jim was anything but apologetic on the phone and kept preaching that he's been demonstrating this move for over 20 years. At the age of 11, my son has been immersed in karate and kickboxing for most of his life. He's always full of new bruises and welts from competing, so I'm not too concerned with superficial injuries. We just moved to the area and thought Villari's would be a good fit for him. I was dead wrong. I would never subject my children to a martial arts instructor, who sends the kids home with marks that he intentionally left on them. This was during a demonstration in front of the class. They were not actively grappling or sparing. This was a red flag, not only to the injury of my son, but to be teaching a self defense technique that utilizes a pinch to the skin.... He declined to demonstrate the pinch on me, after I willing told him I'd love to come in to drill bear-hug defense with him. #mcdojo
