Let's get this out of the way right now: I LOVE food carts! Ever since I was a wee lad getting a…read morehotdog from a vendor at the ballgame, I have enjoyed getting my food from outside of brick and mortar restaurants. Instead of a lemonade stand, my friends and I had a sidewalk food stand, where we sold pizza and hot pretzels to our neighbors. And now I work in downtown Denver, and I could go to a food cart everyday if I wanted to. So I've walked by Empanadas Argentina's blue umbrella a number of times, always on my way to someplace else and always thinking to myself "I've got to try that cart!" So I did. Today. And it's delicious. They have 4 kinds of empanadas: Spicy Chicken, Beef, Ham & Cheese, and Spinach with White Sauce. He was out of Spicy Chicken (damn you guy that just bought them all from under me!) but was cooking more up in his cart's oven. So I opted for the 3 empanadas for $5, and got 1 of each of the remaining choices. You have to get at least 3. I could probably have eaten 3 more. They aren't that big. The beef was by far the best. Flavorful, kinda cheesy with an outstanding buttery yet flaky crust. My second favorite was the Spinach. I was expecting more of an alfredo sauce for the white sauce, but it wasn't nearly as rich. Just enough sauce to give the spinach creaminess, yet little enough to not overwhelm the spinach. Same flaky crust. Finally, the Ham & Cheese. Also good, but it just seemed like a better quality/tasting hot pocket to me. Of course, it had that signature flaky crust. So if you're walking down 16th st. and have a hankering for a quick bite, grab some empanadas from Empanadas Argentina. You won't be sorry.

Though not as good as what I experienced in Japan it was still a delightful treat. I highly recommend if you enjoy matcha and you're in the downtown area, stop by Ichigo Matcha and grab a soft serve for sure! They also have drinks and a sando to experience. You can get a plain matcha soft serve or swirled with strawberry soft serve. Their matcha drinks also have OG or fruit enhancements.

I've tried a few things over multiple visits (classic iced matcha latte, strawberry iced matcha latte, and the strawberry matcha soft-serve cone), and honestly... they haven't missed once. But let's talk about that ice cream cone--it's next level. Creamy, perfectly balanced, and just the right mix of earthy matcha and sweet strawberry. I've been thinking about it ever since my first bite. They've got a solid variety on the menu, whether you're a matcha purist or want something a little more fun and fruity. Everything feels thoughtfully made and consistently good. If you're anywhere near Larimer Square, do yourself a favor and stop by--you'll probably end up dreaming about it too.

The Rockfish Tom Kha had absolutely incredible flavor. I've never had it as an entree before and they do it very well. The Key Lime Curd was the other top dish for me. It was so tart which is exactly what I wanted. They have a good looking meal for Sunday dinner too and I'd love to come back for it.

The space feels very Root Down in the best way. Funky, artsy, a little mid century, but still comfortable and not trying too hard. Then the food starts showing up and suddenly the whole table is passing plates around because everyone keeps saying "wait, try this." We ordered a bunch of things and the smoked carrots were probably the biggest surprise for me. I would absolutely go back just to eat those again. The masa birria, diver scallops, and grilled artichokes and asparagus were all great too. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and came with duck fat potatoes, which immediately puts me in a good mood. Dessert also fully delivered. The banana cream pie with black sesame whip was one of those desserts where you keep going back for another bite even when you're already full. It just felt like a really thoughtful meal from start to finish. Definitely one of my favorite dinners I've had in a while.
