Good place for a fast bite to eat near King's X station. I want to stress that it's Malaysian Chinese so lots of amazing flavours you won't get at a normal Chinese restaurant. Simple menu and fair prices. Good for a mapo tofu but also for beef and chicken curry, roti canal, and belachan kangkong. They even do a pork and century egg congee. Soup noodles are also a good bet for a cold day. A decent meal can be had for under £10 with a drink if you order a special that comes with rice. read more

Looking for an inexpensive but delicious meal, I Yelped and found Chop Chop Noodle Bar, which is across Euston Road from the King's Cross Underground Station. It's a small storefront, so just look for "left luggage" and it's directly across the street! Unlike many UK restaurants, your order is taken right at the table. A laminated menu with the list of options, including drinks, and a slip of paper to make your indications. All the food is prepared to order and I ws disappointed to not be able to see into the kitchen. However, when it arrived it was yummy! I went with the Singapore Laksa, which is a yellow curry coconut sauce with noodles, shrimp, sliced potatoes and tofu puffs. Absolutely delicious in a massive bowl, it was really warming on a cold day. Really inexpensive, even with a small bottle of Perrier, my meal was £6 (~$10). They also seem to serve the usual Asian stuff too - I saw tables with fried rice and other noodle dishes. Tight seating, but that was okay with me. I would absolutely return! read more

Right, other than the fact that it gave my friend a stomach ache after the laksa... (not sure if it was a mix with his dessert popsicle...) this easy Kings x place is cheap and fast. A good £6 can satisfy your happy tummy. Gwai dil was alright as well. Rice dishes are humongousssssss. Usually come here for their Laksa. Huge portions, fast service. Cheap and easy. Everyone's on about how cheap and good this place is - like grubby azn street food (in the best kind of way) but idk whatchu talkin' bout, 'cause this place aint that. I remember a year ago I'd come here for the kuay teow and it was good! Better than at Hare & Tortoise. The portion was huge, they had a good assortment of fishcake, char siew (bbq pork) and prawns, and it was tasty. It never quite had the wok hei (that almost smoky flavour from a well-seasoned wok) but at least it checked all the other boxes. I had the kuay teow the other day and was terribly disappointed. It was all the same ingredients but it was so bland. It just tasted like meh, uninteresting chili. Just spicy. Nothing else. And spicy because they knew that if it wasn't, people'd be like, uh this is just brown noodles that tastes like nothing?? And then there was the special fried rice. John H. I don't want to hate on you but I ordered it after seeing your review and THIS IS NOT LEGIT. AT ALL. £3.80? Pretty darn good, you'd think. Except when it's soggy rice that really doesn't taste of anything. The prawns tasted like water, totally unseasoned, and I'm pretty sure they were just defrosted. I make way better fried rice. And I'd charge you less than £3.80 too. It isn't that difficult to throw in some soy sauce, or even a pinch of MSG - you're a cheap chinese restaurant, you're allowed to do that yknow. On a slightly better note, I suppose the laksa is passable. It's nothing like proper laksa (again, Hare & Tortoise does a better job. Or if you want something even better, buy the Prima Taste packets from chinatown. That stuff's legit.) But at least this dish actually tastes of something and will keep you full. The fried tofu bits are pretty nomz. But really, if you want good, fast, and cheap chinese food at a place with limited service, go to Wong Kei in chinatown instead. read more

Honestly, the place is a nice, cheap takeout option. But it won't blow you away. If you are from the States like me, this is almost your typical Chinese takeout restaurant, similar to Panda Express in terms of food. I don't know if I would quite call it authentic as it claims to be, at least certainly in the Chinese food aspect, but it was a serviceable meal for a college student such as myself. Chop Chop is a cool little place across from Kings Cross Station. The food is completely inexpensive and you can either eat in or take away. The place was pretty busy when we went with people waiting for their take away's and also wanting to be seated. This is completely no frills with the actual restaurant being pretty plain looking from the inside. The food is really great, it's pretty tasty and for about £3 to £4 you get huge plates of food. The fresh fruit juices are also really delicious. I went with my boyfriend and spent £15 on two starters, two huge meals, tea and juice - really value for money. The go-to for Singapore Laksa served at molten-lava temperatures. Large portion, hearty, full of coconut milk and bursting with briny prawn aromas. Skip everything else. I know a regular when I see them sticking to the laksa as I do. Everything else on the menu is like a sit down takeaway, and frankly at the bargain basement prices they are not the best but far from the worst. In the words of Mr. T, I pity the fool who goes for the ho fun or anything other than the laksa. I have had better laksa but it is a respectable rendition of Singaporean food. read more

BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE!!. Can't review for food because we didn't get to eat. We sat there waiting to order food. When we noticed the cashier flip the sign from accepting card over £10 to "CASH ONLY". The lady who sat next to us even said that they do this all the time. How can we order since we were planing to order many items and more than £10 for sure since we have not enough cash with us. Today, I came in at 1pm and didn't find a free table, so I was seated right next to an older Chinese woman who slurped her noodle soup. As other reviewers say - cheap food, large portions, and an enjoyable eating experience. They operate on a DIY ordering system - you mark off on a piece of paper your order, they take it away, and lo! it appears a few minutes later. I go here quite often (my chinese friends from the church next door practically live here) as it's incredibly good value, but they don't mind you hanging around for an hour or two having a leisurely lunch. This was my late night staple while I was studying in London. I probably frequented this place at least once a week or maybe twice. Luckily for me, it was only a few blocks away :) Conveniently located across the King's Cross station, this little restaurant is quick, easy, CHEAP (which is hard to come by in London), and pretty tasty. I love cheap Chinese food. It makes me happier than presents at Christmas. Chop Chop dishes out a full menu of all the favourites, sweet n sour chicken, chow mein, curry, the whole she-bang. What makes the menu so exciting is the cheapness. £2.90 for special chow mein, score! The service is your typical 'wham bam thank you mam,' no frills, no fuss, just tell them what you want. The eatery is deceptively large and clean but I was taking my special fried rice to take away. The £2.90 portion is big and surprisingly not greasy. It is super basic with an uninspiring taste, but for the price, it is still good value for money. I will certainly be back to Chop Chop Noodle Bar. read more

Busy and quick, it's a good place to grab some food, and they don't even blink at people rocking up in halloween gear with skates on... Needing some food just before a party, we headed here as on previous occasions and were quickly seated (thankfully as it became busy soon after). It's simple, choose your noodles or rice, fill out of the paper form and get your food delivered a short while later. It may not all arrive at the same time, but you shouldn't be waiting long. The portions are big, the meat may not be plenty, but it is quick, hot and will fill an empty belly. Drinks aren't that cheap, starting at £1.50 for a can of coke, but who can really compare, it's about the same as everywhere else now. Malaysian Ho Fun ordered and delivered, with prawns, fish cake, chicken and pork. It's tasty but not great. Paid up and we were out of there inside of 40 minutes or so. read more

Situated opposite a very busy King's Cross St Pancras station is a equally busy noodle joint - well, an almost everything joint. Come starving as the portions are huge.. meat to noodles ratio is to be questioned, but at around a £5-iver or less for a main course, you can sure expect the amount of meat used. I went for the fried ho fun with beef and it came fairly quickly. The beef was not chewy or tough, which was a pleasant surprise. The food was steaming hot and the noodle were plenty enough to fill you up. A reasonable bar for the price point at around £3 for a glass of house white/red. I had the sweet and sour chicken with noodles which was less than four pounds and lasted me for lunch and dinner; thats less than four pounds for two meals!! My only complaint is that the tables are perhaps a bit too close together; as in I learned the entire life story of the guy sitting at the table next to me. I only rate places that I like, but this is my first exception. I am disgusted. First of all, I was served the wrong dish. When they corrected it, the vegetable soup was literally hot water with a lot of hastily chopped vegetables inside. There was literally no flavour. When I was a student, I used to teach "English conversation classes" to a couple of lawyers in Japan. These weren't really classes...I would basically head to their office to chat in English for a couple of hours, then they would pay me ¥7000 (just under £50.) It was probably the easiest, most enjoyable part time job I have ever had! Anyway, one of these Japanese lawyers introduced me to the concept of "dirty but gooood" places to eat. Quite often we would go and eat in Osaka after the class...sometimes it would be to posh, gourmet restaurants, but we also headed off to small, shack-like, dirty-looking but really tasty eateries in the back streets of Umeda. When I discussed this with a Chinese friend back in London, he said he thought Chop Chop should count as a "dirty but gooood" restaurant, so of course I went to try it with high expectations. *sigh* I'm afraid I didn't agree with my friend. Chop Chop certainly has the "dirty" part of the description, but I can't describe it as "gooood." However, it IS cheap as chips, and was hugely popular with (manly male) students when I was at University. I suppose it is a Kings Cross institution as it has been there for sooo long! My girlfriend insisted we check this place out after we returned from Italy. I was promised good Asian food for a very low price and I was not disappointed in the slightest sense. The food here is on par with many of the Asian restuarants in the US which is a huge accomplishment in itself, but it comes at a pricepoint that will completely undercut any of its competitors! If you want a filling meal for a great price, there's not much more you can ask for than Chop Chop Noodle Bar, located conveniently across King's Cross. P.S. Chop chop is a chain around London that I had tried before but not for a long time... And nothing has changed. Lots of menu options, very reasonable prices and good big size portions (especially any of the soup based dishes). Plenty of seating and you fill in your own order sheet so as good service as you wanna give yourself. On this most recent - a busy Friday night - the food was served extremely fast and we had choice of seats and there is a fast customer dining experience. Had the beef noodles in black bean sauce - that was spicier than I have ever had previously and the meat wasn't great but thankfully the noodles were good. Service was pretty garbage: when the table next to us asked the waitress for some salt, she reached over and grabbed it from our table without so much as an "excuse me" or "are you done with this?" I got the khay teow and it was really good. Not a whole lot of meat but just enough. Three or four pieces of each fish cake, prawns, and some BBQ pork. Wasn't too salty like some places and just enough spice. Food came out really quickly. Can't say it has the best service in the world. This is the place where I fell in love with Ramen!!!! I had just arrived in London with a couple of friends, and it was a rainy afternoon. We encountered chop chop noodle bar and went right in. The service is not the best, as the waitress was a little rude. I cannot complain about the food and the prices though. I ordered spicy seafood ramen, and prawn fried rice. The soup was so delicious, and they did not hold back on the seafood. The portions here are huge and you will leave very full and satisfied! Not so quick that food is ready before you order, do allow 10 minutes whether you are eating in or getting takeaway. In fact I could not reccommend this place enough if you have 20 minutes or more before your train leaves Kings Cross station. You might stick out the carriage of the Edinburgh train with your Black Bean Chicken and rice, but trust me you will thank me for the tip to come here. It is cheap. You get what you pay for so expect big portions but not the highest quality of food. However, King's Cross is full of poor quality food so this is a good choice. All mains are under a fiver and they take credit and debit cards over five pounds. There is a good range of noodle, soup and rice dishes with seafood, chicken, beef, pork or duck for main course and starters are reflective of Thai, Chinese or Korean food. We went there as it was the only Chinese restaurant in the area. We were starving and wanted a quick meal. Food was awful and service was mediocre. They charge additional for chilli sauces. The food were cold although portions were big. Obviously quantity over quality here. Cash only. Most dishes are priced in the region of £5.
