Very happy with delivery on this one! Crispy duck is excellent and a really nice balance of crisp to juiciness. Lemon chicken was comforting and nicely lemony with a not too cloying sauce. The chicken potstickers were on sale 2 for 1, so worked out similar to individual dim sum pricing. And the baby bok choy was fresh and with savory high quality shiitake mushrooms. Solid place in China town for all day dim sum. We came here on a Wednesday night and I would definitely recommend a reservation as the restaurant was full. The food was delicious. It was exactly what were looking for. We had half a peking duck (amazing) and a variety of dumplings. Everything tasted really fresh. It was on the pricier side, but we did not have anything that we did not enjoy. The service was okay. The food took some time to come out, but when it came out it was hot and fresh. The server's did not check on us, so if we needed anything else we did have to get their attention and flag them down. We stopped in for dim sum and enjoyed pleasant service and a lively atmosphere- but were rather shocked at the high cost of our meal for the very average quality! Decent Chinese restaurant in Chinatown offering all-day dim sum. I got the roasted pork cheung fun (9.50 GBP), grilled prawn and chive dumplings (7.50), egg yolk custard buns (7.50), scallop and prawn dumplings (7.50), and beef ho fun (12.80). As a general point, all of the items were pretty good but not particularly great. They were sort of like Chinese take-out quality, albeit decent take-out quality. Specifically, I thought the outer wrapper on the cheung fun and dumplings were a bit mushy and should have been a bit firmer/chewier. The interior is fairly nice with a traditional Chinese restaurant vibe and plenty of seating. The staff are average friendliness and the service speed was pretty quick. You might have to wait a little bit for a table at peak hours, but we were able to get seated in maybe 10 min or so. Overall, I think if you are craving some dim sum in Chinatown, then Tao Tao Ju could be a good option for you. Otherwise, I would probably not go too far out of the way to come here. read more

It is a difficult matter to accuse an establishment of for this, but unfortunately, my wife and I got food poisoning. 99,9% sure it was from this place. I'm confident that we had it from here since it's all we ate that day, with having their dim-sum for brunch. I was a little suspicious from the beginning since all the food was kind of lukewarm. Dim sum "set menu" is great value, and will leave you sated - on first reading I'd assumed that is was a dumpling per person of the various kinds ( all steamed) when in fact it was a plate each. A nice place in Chinatown. Clean, good atmosphere, and good service (upstairs area is secluded and quiet). Waiters don't ignore you as they do in some Soho Chinese restaurants. A bit pricey but dishes are good. Try their crispy aromatic duck, and their dim sum items. There's a little waiting area with seating while you wait. Came here twice (once with a reservation with a group; the other time also with a group but no reservation). Good experience both times. They gave us complimentary dessert (see photo). Their turnip cakes are very good (comes with fried scrambled eggs). Unique flavor. Not the traditional turnip cakes. Our first time there: we got seated at a corner table with comfy sofa (around the wall), and the waitress was patient and very nice. I've never been to this restaurant before so thought I'd try it. Ordered their wanton noodle soup and salt & pepper squid. Let's start with the soup. Wasn't too impressed with the noodles, thought it was very bland. And the broth was just ok. But thought the dumplings were very nice, tasted freshly made. Next is the salt & pepper squid. The portion wasn't big as other restaurants in Chinatown. The taste was average as well. I should've known not to trust this restaurant as there was a lady standing outside trying to entice people to come in. Whereas in other restaurants in Chinatown where the food is delicious, there's a long queue outside, with no staff standing outside and they are pretty much generally grumpy. This restaurant's staff is super friendly. Think I'd rather have amazing food and grumpy staff than mediocre food and super friendly staff. This resto is pretty pricey too compared to others in the area. The soup and squid, inc service charge came to almost £25. Overall, I won't be coming back again. read more

We ordered the following: - Beef Ho Fun - Gong Bao Szechuan Chicken - Prawn Cheung Fun The chicken and cheung fun (which needs to be eaten quick before becoming tough) are passable but the ho fun ranks among the best beef ho fun dishes I've ever had. The noodles themselves were not special but the beef, so tender and smoky were worth the visit alone. Nice way to break months of fantasising about eating out. read more

Ordered a delivery from Tao Tao Ju today but they didn't even deliver my food lol I ordered through deliveroo but since Tao Tao Ju uses their own riders I couldn't really get the live update of where my order is. I called the restaurant and they claimed to have called me multiple times when they arrived but can't get in touch with me. The thing is I haven't even received a single phone call from them. Instead of trying to deliver the food again or at least offer a refund Tao Tao Ju just decided to not deliver my order at all. Can't believe I paid over 20 pounds for nothing. The restaurant is situated in London's China town, is buzzing with a good clientele, and the menu reflects traditional Chinese food and there is a good selection. I found some of our selections to be a little on the salty side, which is sometimes the case with cuisines that use soy sauce. I wasn't a fan of this place. Sure it's one of the only places that do Dim Sum after 5pm in Chinatown, but for what it's worth if you aren't going to do it right, well then it's not really worth bothering. Decor wise, it was quite impressive. We were led past the front of the restaurant into the back which really looked quite grand. The starters were perhaps the best part. The cucumber and pak choi spicy starter was really good and set the tone for a good evening. Unfortunately the dim sum and other dishes did not follow in the same vein. I make no apologies by ordering the same dim sum items from every place I go to. You have the fried Yam cake with pork, shumai (pork dumplings), and Har Gau (Shrimp/Prawn dumplings) The Yam cake was cold and tasteless. The rest was okay. Nothing special. Portion wise everything was really big, which was a positive. We ordered fried kway teow. Not good at all. Along with the fried yam cake which were both distinctly under fried. If you've had either dish done right, you need a wok on a high heat to created the seared grilled effect. This was not achieved . Staff were pleasant enough and even offered us free Mango Pudding and Tortoise Jelly which were very good. However I felt it was an apology for another group that were in the restaurant and creating an absolute racket across their 3 giant tables. In this respect, atmosphere was very poor. If you're going to invite a group that large, then there need to be some ground rules. But there was just no assertiveness by any of the staff. On the whole, if you want dim sum in the evening, you don't have a wide choice. Tao Tao Ju has a good range of dim sum, unfortunately most are hit or miss. The mango pudding and tortoise jelly are zoo nice though. Have no reservations about recommending that for dessert if you stop by. read more

Above average Soho Chinese food - at above average prices. THIS IS NOT(!) A PLACE FOR DIM SUM. There are plenty of other, better places around that offer fresh Dim Sum (like Wan Chai Corner on Gerrard or, if you fancy the freshest dumplings in town, Beijing Dumpling, which is also on Lisle). Tao Tao Yu specializes in higher quality mains! Tao Tao Yu is an easy-to-overlook Chinese restaurant on Lisle Street, which runs parallel to Gerrard Street (the main tourist restaurant area, with gates on either end). As a general rule of thumb, you will find the Chinese establishments on Lisle a bit more stylish than the ones on Gerrard. Not necessarily better. The upmarket "Tao Tao Ju" is certainly no exception. The menu is pricier than usual, but when you enter the restaurant, you will immediately know, at least partly, why this is so. The decor is more stylish, the atmosphere more laid back, almost quiet (whereas the normal Soho Chinese restaurant is usually extremely busy and loud). A shade of things to come as far as the food is concerned: The dishes are more elaborately prepared and more prettily arranged on the plates. They're also smaller. Expect to choose two mains to leave "satisfied." ;) The food quality here ranges from good to excellent. If you're willing to the spend the extra money, you won't be disappointed. Also, this is one of the few establishments in the area where, as a non-Asian couple or group, you might actually want to linger! I don't recall all the variations we ordered, but they all were satisfactory. I also ordered the hot and sour soup which I enjoyed. Is this the best restaurant in China Town? Cheapskates on the ready! Since it's a pretty new dimsum place in C-town, they're offering 20% off the bill which, was pretty damn good value. However,there are some minor problems they need to watch. After weaving through some tiny looking monkeys (Oh, I can't call them that? They're called children now? Really?) in south ken to return some books to the library, which was a feat and a half because they just block the way of busy busy people like myself. My aunt and mother had decided to meet me at this new dimsum joint because of their offer. They had ordered, fried sesame cheong fun, bbq buns, siumai, dumplings in soup, more dumplings, obligatory egg tarts and some funny looking XLB. I want to tackle the XLB first, I judge places by the quality of their XLB. I know the bar is HIGH as in no where really gets it right in London. These were baby XLB, or maybe they shrunk, I don't know but TTJ, STEP IT UP. Similarly with the bbq buns, they were fluffy but why so mini, it was gone in 2 seconds, then nearly spat out because i don't have concept of hot and cold, but overall the taste was good. Everything else was distinctly average, and I'm really disappointed, Chinatown has yet to produce stellar dimsum, and that's sad for a place called chinatown... The only good thing was the restaurant itself was super stylish, and deceptively big on the inside. (Although if you're super tall, you might have to bend a bit, its a bit like a hobbit's abode AND for a total of 10 dishes approx, we paid a discounted total of £25. read more

I had a bad experience at this place. Had a bad meal not because the food was bad (not great either) but the service was really terrible. The guy who is our waiter is so rude when I asked a few questions while ordering the dishes. He didn't help at all. Rest of waiter and waitress were much nicer. I wish I didn't get the guy who is so terrible. He should never work as a waiter at any restaurant at all. Not sure if it is the London type of service. I had one of the worst dinners of my life here. I left being so upset with myself that I hadn't checked its Yelp rating before I let my friends chose the place, because all of this mess could have been avoided. To start off with, in the future I will make it a point to avoid restaurants that have staff members standing outside trying to usher people in. A man standing outside recruited us from the streets and quickly sat us, but then it's like we were instantly forgotten. We were seated in a corner and we hardly ever saw any service staff again. I know that this can happen sometimes when places are busy, but this place was small and empty. They were standing around, not waiting on us. We had to flag someone down and beg them to take our order after being ignored for a good half hour, and they were rude about taking the order. When they took our order, those of us who got main dishes with meat were asked simply, "steamed rice?" And we said yes assuming that the rice would be included with the over £10 meal, as it usually is at even the worst Chinese restaurant. The food we were served was disgusting. Seriously, worst food I've had out to eat in a long time. It was almost inedible. The meat could hardly be called meat, and the pad Thai was simply gross - mushy and full of giant slices of rotten tomatoes. We sat there for what felt like another eternity for flagging down another server to get our check. All we wanted was to get out of this place. When the bill arrived, it was written in Chinese so we had a difficult time deciphering it, but it was over £20 more than what we had ordered. This took a good half hour to figure out - turns out, they had charged us each almost £5 for the tiny portion of white rice they had led us to believe was included. We threw down the extra cash just so we could get out of this restaurant and never look back. Overall, I left feeling gross and like I had been scammed. I still want my money back to this day. This is absolutely the worst Chinese food I have ever had. My friends and I picked this place over the other surrounding restaurants because it had 5 stars for health and safety as opposed to the others which had 2 or 3. Well apparently 5 stars mean nothing: we had hair in our food. Additionally, the sauce lemon chicken tasted like pure sugar with some citrus. The chow main had no flavor, the fried rice was basically just white rice with egg and onion, and overall it was just not good. Definitely recommend trying another restaurant in the area over this one. read more

The buffet places are cheap but not that appealing especially when crowded, so we took a chance with Tao Tao Ju, which looked pleasant from the outside and the menu seemed average-price. So, the food was very good, at least what is expected for the price level, and the portions decent. Not the fastest service, but they also had a big party in the back room. Unfortunately one of our entrees did not arrive with the rest and after a while of waiting I asked an older lady waitress whether we were waiting for something. She replied something like "I don't know" and left. I did not get upset since from my Asian friends (esp. Koreans) I know that in some Asian cultures you are not to expect a pleasant service experience. But this was not the case, as while the lady did not return herself, the manager (I assume?) came and started apologizing profusely, explaining that they were a bit stretched due to the large party (which I could see, was indeed quite a big party), and offered us any drinks we liked on the house while we waited. After the drinks and a few more apologies, the elusive entree came (along with more apologies) and was good as well. Then we were offered deserts also on the house. So, what this might have gone to a 2 star review due to bad service, switched to a 4 star review because they did try to make up as best they could and were overall very pleasant. read more
