I've used Albert before on a few occasions and he was fairly responsive and helpful. BUT that was until recently when I referred my mom to him for some information. My mom wanted to travel through South America, down to Argentina and then hop on a cruise to Antarctica. I've always seen deals for cruises to Antarctica from Argentina. So I had her call Albert for some advice on this type of journey. To my surprise, my mom had a terrible phone conversation with Albert. Not only was Albert rude to her, he criticized her for supposedly confusing him with her questions. The most shocking part was when he questioned why she would travel to Antarctica and that it was super hot! Um, really? I have no idea why he would think Antarctica is hot. Last I checked, it's -24 degrees Fahrenheit down there! And this was just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended). He then proceeded to tell her that he was really busy and that she was wasting his time. Told her to just go to his office instead. I understand if she's not a customer and just a random caller with questions. However, she was a referral from a customer. Even if she was just a random caller, why be rude to the person? The whole "Antarctica is super hot" comment was just perplexing. A travel agent made this comment...a travel agent. And to make her feel stupid for asking about cruises to Antarctica was unnecessary considering these cruises DO exist. The poor treatment of a referral from a regular customer was very disappointing. Albert went above and beyond to help his customers and always able to pull his magic and find the best deal that other travel agents not able to. My husband and I were planning our trip to Japan and stopover at another country, and Albert was able to find great airline tickets with $315 less compared to another travel agent in SGV. The whole trip was $1500 less compared to booking on Expedia since Expedia is more expensive and does not have the stopover option for multiple destinations. Came back to Albert this year for cheap plane tickets and I was not disappointed! He's still the same! This year I went to South Korea for two weeks. Came to Albert about 2 months in advance and he got me a really good price for round trip plane tickets! I didn't book any tours or hotel rooms with him this time cause I was staying with a friend there. But I also tried looking for flights on my own online and Albert gave me the cheapest quote. Very happy to have found him last year for my trip because I just come to him when I need to go somewhere now! I've always purchased my plane tickets online, and never really thought twice about it. Having recently decided to take a trip to Hong Kong, I figured it wouldn't hurt to shop around a bit. After seeing tickets at about $718 on multiple websites, I was wondering if Albert was able to find anything cheaper for me. Though he wasn't able to, he really does try to look really hard and research best possible tickets. In the end, I did not purchase my tickets from him. He said if he charged me $10 more (on top of $718) then he would be able to guarantee me aisle seats. Ended up booking through expedia and got aisle seats anyway though... Overall, I think he's a really good place for people who have limited knowledge of the internet (older generations) or those who are traveling to different places from different starting points. But for me, a simple round trip airfare was just better purchasing online. read more

We visited Albert Eng at Chosen Travel on a Saturday after visiting another travel agency we had been dealing with but they were closed.  We did a google search and Albert was close by, so we decided to give him a try.  Once we arrived and stepped in, we had a bad feeling.  The place was a dump.  Very messy and dirty.  My husband and I felt uncomfortable to sit on the dirty chairs, but we thought since we were already there how bad can it be considering we already had a detailed itinerary with flights (airline, dates, times), travel visas information and hotels along with prices from another agency we had been working with but were closed.  We thought it should be a quick in and out transaction.  In addition, we felt bad for Albert, an old man who looked like he really needed the business.  Albert assured us that he would be able to take care of us and this is when the nightmare experience begins. My husband told Albert the details of our planned honeymoon trip and then showed him the detailed itinerary provided by the other agency which had airline, flight dates and times, etc. along with the price for each flight, travel visas and hotel costs.  My husband was pretty straightforward and told Albert that we had been talking to another travel agency, but they were closed on weekends and showed Albert the itinerary with details and price.  He told Albert, if you can match the price of the other agency for the same flights, we would purchase from him (Albert stated that he could only help us with the flights and travel visas and that we should purchase the hotel online).  Albert assured us that he would be able to match the price, so we stayed.  Albert then proceeded to work on his computer and constantly called multiple people to try to find our flights.  We were getting annoyed as it was taking forever and we had another appointment to attend to.  During this time, my husband told Albert that we had to go as we were late and that we would come back another time, but he kept assuring us that he was almost done.  Next thing you know, almost 2 hours had past and we were late to our appointment so we were about to leave and that's when he said he was finished with the flights and our visas and had our total cost.  My husband then paid for the flights and visas.  Albert then told us that the visas would be ready in 3-5 days and that he would call us when it was ready to pick up.  My husband then asked for our flight tickets and that's when Albert stated that it was late and that the ticketing agent who he purchases from I assume, had already left.  Albert kept saying, "don't worry I will email you the electronic tickets", "trust me", etc.  Since we were late to our appointment, we trusted him but asked him to provide a receipt which he wrote up by hand.....BIG MISTAKE! Albert emailed our tickets over the weekend.  However, we were not able to verify the details of the tickets until a couple days later.  After review, my husband noticed that one of the flights was for the wrong time which would require us to have a layover of 7 hours at the airport instead of 3 hours from our original itinerary.  My husband emailed Albert about the mistake and the next day Albert called.  Instead of apologizing and offering to correct, Albert started to blame my husband that it was somehow my husband's fault.  Albert's reasoning was that we wanted the "lowest price" and that we "bargained too much".  My husband told Albert that his reasoning made no sense at all since he had showed Albert the exact details of our flight itinerary along with the price which Albert agreed to match.  That was the only reason why we stayed, but Albert still kept on trying to blame my husband.  Albert then quoted that it would cost about $700 more to correct the mistake he made which is disgusting.  This guy is definitely NOT TO BE TRUSTED.  Albert is a shady and crooked person who took advantage of our trust when we left his office without our tickets in hand.  It is hard to believe that a person can make changes to someone's travel plans without letting them know just so that he can pocket a few more bucks.  There are so many travel agencies in the area that I'm sure are professional and looking to help customers with their travel needs, especially when traveling international.  Albert Eng and Chosen Travel in Monterey Park, CA is definitely not a place anyone would want to do business with.  I would warn anyone looking for assistance with travel arrangements to STAY AWAY from this place.  Unfortunately, we learned the hard way and will now have suffer a long layover or pay a ridiculous amount for our upcoming honeymoon trip. read more

Albert is rude and mean. The first time I called, I had asked to get a quote for a Bali/Taiwan trip and he gave me a good price. I told him I would have to call back a few days later and discuss this with my group. He said it was ok. A few days later, I called back and asked to hold those tickets. He was so rude, yelling at me stating that I need to send him an email, that he was with a customer. I understand that but no need to yell at me like I'm a 5 year old, raising his voice at me like I did something really wrong. I told him that it's more complicated that I will need to talk to him but he just kept yelling at me and I told him there's no need to yell at me, that he can simply ask and I can email him. He calmed down and gave me his email address. I emailed him with the details, name and BOD like he had asked. Well, he called back 2 hours later asking me what was that, that he couldn't understand and it was too complicated. So I had to again explain my dates and destination. I told him this is why I had originally asked to speak to him. He then stated that on my first call that I had inquire for June, which is no way in hell that I would do such a thing since I'm going with a group and its for my friend's birthday. I can't make up some other dates. He started yelling at me again so I hung up on him. I don't think I can take such verbal abuse from this guy. He could have just simply gotten down my name and number and asked to call me back letting me know he's with another customer on the last call. I would of thought trying to make travel arrangements and planning a vacation from Iraq for my wife in the US to meet me in Thailand would be a bit difficult. Chosen Travel made it simple and seamless and was able to get me rates that I didn't even come close to in days of scouring the Internet. That was just the beginning though. During my vacation I had to make some critical changes to a return flight. Having limited Internet access, and no phone it was nearly impossible, and the few times I was able to get through to the airlines they insisted there were no open seats or the changes couldn't be made. This is terrible experience with this agent Albert, he was so rude as Helen O described. I called him about 8:30 am to know he has any 3-days tour bus left he said yes the seats are still available but he asked me to call him back after he come back from dentist appointment about 10 am, I called back about 10:30 am he yelled on the phone that I need to call him about 10 am so he can have save seats for me, I said that'll be fine if you don't have available anymore I can find from other agent then we hung up. 10 minutes later he called he said he had seats for me and need me to come his office asap, I get in his office right away. In the office, I asked for tour detail before I pay: schedule including where we stay and where we go and tour guide must speak English, he told me that I demand him a lot with too many questions. I said that information I have to know or at least he have to give me a flyer schedule, finally he gave me a tour flyer. he complaint that I come to him too late for tour (10 days before tour depart) so I shouldn't have any question, I was get mad there but I still tried to calm to ask him last question that the hotel where the bus depart allows for me to park car during the trip, he said he doesn't know and yelled me have to find out. Off course I will never come back this agent and will also not recommend to anyone else. read more

I'm still undecided on where to book my flights from LAX-DEL, but he did try to find the best prices available through his system (which apparently isn't as wide as tripadvisor's). I actually found Chosen Travel on craigslist. They were offering very enticing prices for trips to Asia. I checked YELP and found a posting. It was a little hard to find the location because the address of the North / South Garfield are within blocks of each other. I had to call the office and was advised that we needed to go further south. Apparently this happens often as he new exactly where we were. Once we found the location there was convenient parking in the back. Albert Eng is the manager and owner of the travel agency. He is a professional and his experience in the industry is obvious. He treated us very nice and immediately went to his terminal. Gave us a few quotes and made reservations on an airline. Due to the peak season and the 2010 Shanghai Expo in progress it took awhile to finally lock in the date of departure and the airline. Overall, we were treated very courteously, promptly, answered all our email, inquiries and followed up with us. I would recommend Chosen Travel for trips to Asia. He is only interested in getting the deal closed fast with you and do not expect him to listen to your needs.
