Meh. Driving cross country, We like to stop at places that we can't find at home. Sometimes that means local fast food joints like this one. You win some, you lose some. Our experience was... ok. The food was like the kind of food you get from a church booth at a city carnival. Nothing amazing. The prices were... ok. Not expensive, by any means, but I could have gotten better food for less money at the Arby's down the street. Plus, no free refills on soda (we discovered this when my son asked for a refill on his kid-sized drink) and (this is a personal pet peeve) they charge for water - you know, 48 cents for a water glass. I didn't know where I was but definitely somewhere in the 1960s. I saw the reviews on Yelp and trusted that this was where we needed to go to have lunch. Wasn't disappointed!!! I don't know how I am the first person to review Chow Hound, but let me tell you, it is AWESOME. The Green River Utah Burger King had closed early for the night, and I wanted fries. (The handwritten note said that it was closed due to a baby being born. I didn't get that at all, but whatever.) So instead of doing the smart thing which would have been getting back on the interstate and just looking for McDonalds or something, I went deeper into Green River. Chow Hound was open late (I say late because 9:30 PM seems like it is late for Utah). I can't lie: we chose this place based on its most excellent sign. It's a standard fast-food burger joint (though I suppose the pizza is not standard for burger joints). Our burger and fries were fine. But after our meal, we decided to share a milkshake. I'm glad we shared, because the milkshake was big. We chose a banana shake, which they made with fresh banana and soft serve. It was really good! Exactly what I was looking for, cooked to order, eggs were soft and green pepper, onions and cheese was a perfect accompaniment. This is a cute little place, very old fashioned in a good way. It reminded me of my 1980s childhood! They seem to do a booming takeout pizza business with locals and tourists alike, which is nice in such a small town. If I hadn't eaten dinner already, I would have ordered up a pie for sure because it smelled great. We were staying across the street at Sleepy Hollow and wanted an evening snack. Both big fans of malts, we were delighted to get tasty ones on the cheap - cookie dough for me, butterscotch for him. They were very malty but not too strong on the other flavors, which we liked a lot. If you have kids, beware the dollar-to-play claw machine and other kiddie toy machines up front. It's just ok for small town, road food. I'm not going to rave over fried fast food. I had the Malibu grilled chicken: grilled or fired, piece of ham, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Broke down from overheating my Jeep Cherokee and stumbled upon this place as I was walking around. Ordered a 14" Garden Pizza and a root beer float. The Food - The Garden pizza was pretty good. Reminded me of a classic pizza from the 1990's. Plenty of toppings and a good amount of cheese. To my surprise it wasn't greasy like you see at some cheesy pizza joints. - The root beer float however was a disappointment. Soft serve and and some root beer. Just isn't the same as ice cream and root beer. Customer Service - The girl behind the counter whom I didn't get their name seemed like she didn't really like her job. Which is ironic cause the back of her t-shirt said "I heart my job". She took my order, was polite and brought me my pizza. While waiting for my food I could hear her and the cook play fighting in the back laughing and having a good time. Reminded me of high school days.. you know boy likes girl, girl likes boy. etc etc. This didn't really bother me. Overall appearance - This place isn't the cleanest but it's what you'd expect of a small town. I'd eat here again to try the other menu options. Stopped to charge my car across the street and it was so hot that I thought I would get a cold drink. I see they're only doing take away and you can see the social distancing marks on the floor but not one customer or one person handling or preparing the food bothered to wear a mask. Patience is a Virtue.This is our second go round with Chow Hound ordering pizza from a favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant. Initially we go through Delivery.com which then is filtered through Chow Hound. This is our last go round with Chow Hound and Delivery.com. Order in at 8:10 PM on a Friday night...busy time, so allocate an extra 20 minutes....we were told it would be delivered at 8:37. We called the restaurant after 45 minutes, to check on delivery, and were told that the food had been delivered. Huh???? News to us...it was not so we called Chow Hound to get to the bottom of this..and although they were very polite they suggested we call the restaurant. We did. The Restaurant was so apologetic and would send a new order. It is now 9:57 PM and after numerous calls to Chow Hound and the restaurant we finally resolved the problem. Our pizza is here an hour and 20 minutes late. So time to eat. I was advised from the restaurant to order form Grub Hub. Good Advice. read more

We live in Colorado and make frequent trips to the Wasatch Front in Utah. We decided to give a try to this non-chain mom and pop restaurant. We drop in EVERY time we drive between home and the crowded parts of Utah. Never had other than a great experience. Recommend the milkshakes. Husband and I had cheeseburgers and small sodas after being on the road for ~15 hours. The food was prepared well and seemed like it would have been great on a regular day, but was absolutely amazing after eating nothing but Twizzlers and chips all day. I dont understand how this got a really good review. These people must be deprived of good food. I was really excited to eat here. After seeing all the stars. I got the 1/2lb burger fries and a soda. It was just under 10.00. Pretty good prices here. The burger was extremely bland. All it was. A bun tiny bit of lettuce one slice of pickle two thin patties and frie sauce. Very greasy also. Im sure there are far better places in g.r. i should have ate at the burger king. It would have been better. I give it two stars because its cheap. And i give the food no stars. We stayed in Green River overnight - and decided to go into town to find food before hitting the road. Now, Green River isn't a large place, but it's charm is in the raw beauty of the area. We didn't know what to expect in food - but found a little gem at a restaurant called the Chowhound. We had homemade soup, chili, burgers - fast food - but it's home made and DELICIOUS!!....the place is extremely clean and well done - clearly the pride in their business shows - and it's well deserved. There isn't much in Green River but the Chow hound was open, reasonable food and prices were just fine. It's local fast food... Which means don't expect gourmet, but we had burgers that were good, kids chicken strips were good and the fries were crispy and hot. All around beats a chain fast food stop.
