while hardware shops in many neighborhoods seem to be disappearing and being replaced by chains. CHP is hanging in there. had a small home repair, recently. was able to find the items needed and get in & out quickly to make the fix. it's a small shopped packed from floor to ceiling --definitely ask for help if you aren't familiar with the store. staff was helpful (English is a little limited though). pricing seems competitive. closes fairly early --by like 430 pm. DIY locally for the win! read more

This place charge 3 times more for a copy of the keys than any other hardware store in entire Downtown area.

I always find the team in here helpful whenever I have questions, and the store has a surprisingly broad array of products. I always support local, Alphabet City independent stores over soulless multinationals like Home Depot, as Carmen seems to prefer. Her comments are fair re: masks but completely *off base* re: the staff's product knowledge and what they sell. Thats just plain wrong as all the other reviewers clearly attest to. read more

These guys are well-stocked and importantly, THEY CUT KEYS. They do it right. (I have a serious peeve against hardware stores that cut your key wrong; there oughtta be a law.) They're my neighborhood hardware store, they got the local flava, and when I went in to buy boric acid one time, I said to the guy, "Mata cucarachas." He laughed. (I also went there the other day to try and get some automotive adhesive to try and fix my rainboots, explaining that they'd sprung leaks; remember in the 70s how they came out with that "Shoe Goo" to slather on your running shoes--and maybe extend their life a little bit? Well, all the guy said was, "Gone!" with a dusting-off motion of his hands. Tells it like it is. So I threw out the boots.) read more

Great friendly service, very helpful - and bilingual to boot! Bought a bunch of stuff for an A/C installation, but ended up buying too much. No worries! If it ain't opened, you can get reimbursed. I'm a local guy. I know my way around a few basic tools, but other than that, I'm not much of a "hardware" guy. I came on a slow day (Saturday), and they were kind enough to fit a NASTY stripped screw for me. Must've taken the guy about 20 minutes to muscle the thing out of there. He was helping other customers in between, but he didn't stop until the job was done. All he charged me for was $15 for the drill head he used. Nice guys. You can't find this anywhere else in the East Village. I can't say much else about any of their other services, but I was impressed by the level of personal attention I got. 5 Stars. read more

The best neighborhood hardware store! Very friendly and helpful. Keys made always work. Have all pieces and parts you need at the last minute. I had a small fan motor with threaded pins that were an inch too long, they cut them perfectly and charged $2. My first stop hardware store. Highly recommended! read more

i called them to change my mailbox lock. the key wasn't working and it took them 2 weeks to come and fix it, then a few weeks later the lock simply fell from the mailbox as the work had been so poorly done and they refused to come and change it. WORST hardware service ever!! read more
