We started working with Chris about four years ago when looking for our first home. He was recommended by the lender we had reached out to, and we're so glad he was! At the time we were younger than the average Bay Area buyer and our budget was smaller. We have been to several of Chris Eckert's open houses. He seems to have a lock on certain parts of San Mateo and the houses in general are pretty nice, if bordering on overpriced. He doesn't seem very personable compared to most of the other realtors I have met, and I have a big problem with the fact that I cannot get out of having his junk mail in my mailbox every few weeks. I even called his office and the assistant there told me there was no way to "opt out." She wasn't particularly apologetic about it either. Regarding the last review by Tom Graph, "Italy T" - He was very satisfied with this transaction. Chris cut his commission to almost nothing in order to get this deal to close and for both parties to be happy. Tom didn't want to put his house on the open market to see what he could actually get for his home. Chris Eckert told him he does not make the market, only interprets it; there are no guarantees on what you could get if you don't put the house on the market. Tom thought he was getting a great deal and was very happy until Chris Eckert put a house on the market also across the street. That house sold for 200,000 over asking, which shocked Chris as well as the owners of that home. After seeing what the other house sold for, then all of a sudden Tom Graph had an issue with what his house sold for and thought Chris was all of a sudden unethical. Hindsight is 20/20. Chris Eckert cannot see into the future. He was honest and up front/transparent to both parties. The only flaw Chris Eckert has is he cannot see into the future with his crystal ball. Chris managed both a buy and a sell for me. I was pessimistic that my old place would sell for what I wanted. But Chris managed to get multiple offers within 6 weeks! I think he priced it properly. He was the one who suggested that it should be staged and it made a tremendous difference. The timing of the sell and the buy was very sensitive because I didn't want to rent. The buyer had all kinds of problems with their mortgage. It was quite tense, but Chris managed it pretty well. He was also provided with psychological support to keep from going insane :). Continue doing your research for a professional realtor before choosing Chris. However, if you are interested in finding someone who just wants you to buy/sell a house so he can make his commission then look no further. In our opinion, Chris was dishonest with us on more than one occasion. For example, in selling our house he only showed us comps for homes that were blocks away from ours and up to 1 mile away. He did not divulge he was already in contract to sell/represent the neighbor 2 doors down and what the original selling price was going to be. Let's also add his oversight of including our European designer fixtures as part of the sale of our house that we had to negotiate them back from the new owners with no help from him. We didn't realize how unprofessional he was until we bought our new house, of course with a different realtor (once burned, twice shy), and from a true professional who actually looked out for our best interests and not just his commission. My wife and I both lead large sales teams (not in real estate), and so we are quite picky when it comes to someone representing our interests. Chris was phenomenal. He has incredible knowledge of the market, the process and the nuances of real estate negotiation. In less than a month, we were able to find and buy an AMAZING home for $150K BELOW asking price. In this market, that is unheard of. But, Chris worked with us on our strategy, and did a tremendous job bringing the deal to fruition. But, then AFTER the sale, after his commission had been paid, he STILL has remained involved and interested helping us secure contractors to make some fixes, organize visits to the property (the previous owner had a "rent back" for a period of time) and just being generally available when we have needed anything. I have been wanting to write a review on Chris for some time now. Chris was the most dedicated agent I have ever encountered. I think all would agree that my home became somewhat of a nightmare to market. There were additions made to the home before my initial purchase without permits. I thought that would be no big deal as long as I disclosed that the changes were made without permits when I listed it 10 years later. Well, somehow someone viewing the home for sale called the city to come inspect. What followed from that became a long, protracted and difficult four months. The house had to be taken off the market and basically revamped to meet the requirements of the City of San Mateo and get permits for the prior work. Throughout the process Chris was there for me every step of the way including meeting with city personnel when I couldn't be there, making numerous follow-up phone calls and continually researching the options I had available to me -- basically holding my hand through the whole long drawn out procedure. In addition, while staging my home, Chris felt the best way to show the home was to move my computer work station out of the kitchen into a back bedroom. I was a little overwhelmed to have to move over what seemed a very complex myriad of wires and cables and equipment, not to mention an oversized, extremely heavy desk to another area in the house. Chris personally took care of this for me while I was at work one day. He personally and painstakingly labeled each cable wire and cord so as to reinstall everything back correctly in the new location. It was such a relief when I returned home to find everything perfect and I didn't have to stress about it one little bit. In addition, during the transaction while house was in escrow, a cracked window became an issue. Chris went out and purchased a new window and had it installed and never said another thing about it.
