I have been Dr Harpers patient for many years. He is attentive to detail and his medical assistants have always been the same. Scheduling appointments lately is terrible. They have some service that is horrible and takes a long time to even just change an appointment! They put you on hold after every sentence! Today the girl at the left check in desk was like a zombie! No eye contact. She talked as if she was a robot and was not even programmed for politeness! At the end i politely said "thank you" hoping to get some eye contact and she looked away and mumbled you're welcome!! Wow! When you're dealing with the public and trying to make patients comfortable, this is not the person to do it. She was young with dark hair down to her shoulders. Maybe the office manager should retrain her. The lady to her right, seemed to be polite and know how to make eye contact to patients. Very unprofessional MA, greeted me with a unwelcoming attitude. I went in to get a full exam on skin for abnormalities but Dr. Harper had no clue what I was in for. I initially came here to lash out my frustration at Dr. Harper's office since his office postponed my appointments twice a month apart and tried to postpone one more time, and because I left the office with confused feelings for the style with which I was treated. I changed my mind entirely after reading his comments. I arrived there feeling unwelcome because of a call center/front desk miscommunication, and he sounded like he wanted to get over with my appointment as quickly as possible. It turns out many people find his style dismissive or uncourteous. I still think his appointment managers could be more professional. However, after reading his responses to others, I couldn't agree more and had a better understanding of his work values, which I appreciate. Here is the breakdown of my experience with that in mind: 1. I would want a doctor to take care of my health problems without trying to take advantage of the insurance; he made zero attempts and showed up timely to his appointment. 2. He arrived in the office with a female assistant. I had a lesion on my thighs; I am a female patient, so it is an ethically responsible procedure. An assistant before him asked me if I needed something to cover myself, but I said no, I could take my pants down. It was a bit awkward that they waited for me to take my pants down, which was the first time I had experienced something like this. Usually, doctors or assistants leave the room and come back when you are ready, but I felt that if I needed to ask them out, they would go out. I did not. 3. I wouldn't wish to have an operation if that is unnecessary, and I asked for a purely professional opinion, and he sounded candid with that. 4. I did not know about paying Yelp for removing comments; that was a big eye-opener. Another piece of directness and ethical stance I like! 5. Customer service courtesy is optional in his line of business, and I can empathize with people who don't feel the need to please others if they are doing their job. Dr Harper was at the Upland office , but now he is in Pomona. I like this office better. The office is in a remodeled house. The office is nicer and clean. Parking is on the street, but I didn't have any problems finding a spot. When I signed in there were 3 ladies at the front desk and no one acknowledged me. This was odd , but I figured maybe it was because I was 15 minutes early ? I sat there for 20 minutes wondering if I should say something since I was the only one in the waiting room. 5 minutes after my appointment time I was called in. Dr Harper was very thorough with his assessment and I felt that he is respectful and knowledgeable. No complaints there . I was in and out in 30 minutes. Awesome time management. Worst Medical Facility EVER! No direct phone number. You must go through an Answering Service to contact the office. The Answering Service can barely communicate in English and we were put on hold for 20 minutes and then disconnected, as was Prospect Medical Group, a division of SCAN, her medical provider who we contacted for help. My 96 year old Mother-in Law was diagnosed with Eczema and a Staff Infection. We were told that we would receive treatment instructions, as would the Assisted Living Facility she lives at. That was Wednesday, it is now Friday evening and none of us has received treatment instructions and the offices are now closed until Monday. If you care about the patient. PLEASE KEEP THEM AWAY FROM THIS DISASTER! read more

The office staff here are pleasant, but the doctor was utterly pathetic. He walked in, did not shake my hand or greet me with a smile. He was very monotone quiet and almost seemed irritated. He looked at the skin tags on my neck and said yeah those are no big deal. Those are fine. I'm not worried about those, I asked him about a particular he said yeah there's nothing wrong with it but if you want me to remove it I can. I showed him more spot and he said he thought he would use the liquid nitrogen and I asked him if it would hurt and he said, I don't know you tell me and he proceeded to spray it on my chest. He did not tell me what it was what it would do or what it would feel like, I was in his office maybe three minutes tops he could have cared less he actually gave me the willies. I. I don't know why I see all the negative reviews about Dr. Harper here. I do know that many people use YELP as a revenge tool for not getting what they want. So read the reviews with that in mind. That being said, Dr. Harper was the only Dermatologist that listened to my husband. He had a skin condition that he couldn't get help with. Foothill Dermatology had no clue and never listened to him when he pointed out an active sore. They diagnosed him with Eczema. Luckily we didn't accept this diagnosis and pushed until he got referred to Dr. Harper. Dr. Harper listened to my husband and took a biopsy from an active sore and discovered he has Poly Arteritis Nodosa. This is a vasculitis and it's life threatening. Not saying that it always happens, but I have experienced it more than not, but that's neither here nor there. I scheduled an appointment here to get something checked out right. The wait was quite long, esp for having a very early appt. I guess this doc is a popular dude around here. ANYWAYS I came here to get a situation checked out that appears to be chronic, but with the proper medication, which I received when the issue first arose. I finally get a moment with the doctor and I walked out the office with the same thing I walked in with (lol). Like you have to be joking me. After explaining the problem, he offered nothing but a prescription for a medication that I received that my primary wrote. Thanks? I have insurance, but I am "not" going to use it. I wanted a consultation with a dermatologist for acne so called as a cash patient and they did not accept my money because get this..... I have insurance that they don't take. I was clear that I will not be using my insurance, that I will pay for it myself. I asked the lady "If I called you to make an appt and didn't have insurance or I simply told you I don't have insurance, you'd take me?" Yes was her answer! The irony! I been coming to this office for quite a few months. The ladies at the windows aren't very friendly at all. Better training in customer service is needed. I believe patients need to feel welcome when coming to their routine appointments. Also the office needs to be cleaned, dusted, mopped. Far from impressed. Dr. Harper came across very rude and arrogant. My husbands appointment was rushed, not helpful and the rude comments made to my husband were unacceptable. Very disappointed. We cancelled the follow up appointment, and wont be returning. A second request for a dermatologist from our primary care physician has been requested. Its a shame that someone in Dr. Harper's profession didn't practice the care needed in promoting health and positive experience as a physician should. I would not recommend this dermatologist. Dr. Harper is an awesome doctor! He is direct, honest, and treats what is necessary. His main concern is for skin cancers (which he has a keen eye for), but he also treats other hair/nail/skin issues. I also appreciate Dr. Harper never turning down a concern. Like if the appointment was for a spot on my arm but then also had a concern about my back, he would gladly take a look and address all my questions. While he recommends the best treatment option, he is great at working with his patients to accommodate their comfort level, which really shows a great doctor partnering with his patients. He does not do anything that is unnecessary, like a biopsy unless there's potential for cancer (or if you really want one) or seeing you more frequently than you need. He will see you three times a week, once a year, or leave it open ended for you to come back when you want -- which all depends on your medical needs. I have also experienced him following up by phone if the condition is acute and severe to make sure everything is going well. Also, I hear him speaking to his staff in the office about getting referrals and authorizations day of! The office really prioritize patients needs above all. Too often have I noticed that people do not understand that doctors and their staff do a lot of work behind the scenes that go unnoticed. They are limited by what the insurance companies allow, and have to jump through so many hoops, but ending up being blamed by pwhen something is really out of their hands. But I appreciate Dr. Harper's office accepting all patients and going above and beyond for their patients! I would definitely recommend Dr. Harper! read more

One Star is generous. My wife needed to see a dermatologist for a skin lesion. We were referred to Dr. Harper. Unfortunately we will not come back to his consultation any more. I came with my wife as I normally do to her medical appointments. We waited almost an hour to be passed in, even though we arrived with time to spare in order to fill out all their forms. Once inside, we waited a little more. Finally he decided to come in. Right away I could tell he was probably having a bad day or something. His body language said it all. He barely looked at the mole on my wife and said it was no concern. He didn't want to treat it because it was close to the eye. My wife showed him another mole on her ear. He sprayed it with a freezing liquid like the size of a pea. Told us to come back in 6 weeks. Well, whatever he put on didn't take. Her skin just flaked a little and came off. Now the humorous part. I get the insurance bill. He charged almost $500 for the consultation and the spray. The insurance paid a little over half and I paid the rest. Yes, you got your money this time. There will be no next time! And don't bother writing back with some lame excuse. Not interested. read more

This was my second time seeing Dr. Harper. The first time I saw him was for an acne issue. It was a big deal to me and I felt like he completely brushed me off and essentially told me to deal with it. Today I went back and tried to have a positive attitude (it's been 2 years). Nothing has changed. I went to have some moles looked at that I felt required some checking. I was in the room for no more than 5 minutes and he said I was good. That's it, literally. No conversation, no nothing. I'm totally going to get a second opinion. If you want a doctor that will treat you with compassion and care then this is not your guy. If you want a to the point, no conversation type of doctor then you're good. I have a hard time with a doctor that's not willing to establish any sort of relationship with his patients. Seems kind of strange. This office is sad too, the bathroom is in the waiting room... yuck. People just seem sad there, I recommend going somewhere where you as the patient seems to be put at the fore front of the entire office. read more

There is no exaggeration in saying that Dr Harper is a life-saver and apparently many other patients reviewing him, agree with me. Let me tell you, his diligence and work ethics are absolutely unmatched! Over the span of more than three decades I have seen MANY dermatologists considering my strong family history of skin cancer. The pattern never failed. They all rushed through the visit, having very limited time to evaluate anything else other than the spot of immediate concern. I came to see Dr Harper with a very suspicious looking growth on my forehead and I didn't expect him to do any "extra mile" for me considering my previous experiences. Dr Harper not only carefully evaluated this growth but also took time (without me even asking for it) to do what I would call a "full body scan", assessing uncommon areas like eyeballs, mouth and scalp where melanomas and other skin cancer may develop inconspicuously. On the day of my initial visit he was fully booked, he had patients back to back but I didn't feel rushed in any way. It takes a really spirited, dedicated doctor to treat a patient like a member of his family. The result?? He recommended biopsy on two inconspicuous small "moles" that came back as carcinomas and need to be more deeply extracted. If he did not do this extra mile for me on day of my first visit, I would not be aware that I have these carcinomas that need to be taken care of. That's what I mean by saying that Dr Harper is a life saver! I will keep coming back to see him for my regular check-ups, bring my children and husband for evaluations and recommend him to everyone I know. Thank you Dr Harper, I'm forever grateful! read more

My experience here was greater than the five stars represented above. Yes it is in Pomona, but this office is incredibly clean and decorated. I have seen Dr. Harper twice. My second visit was to remove a Sebaceous cyst (gross I know) on my back. I live with PTSD and even going to the dentist can send me straight into a panic attack. The staff here were absolutely amazing. Dr. Harper made this entire process a calm and positive experience. His bedside manner is outstanding and for someone like me, I think it's important to let others know where you can go for impeccable treatment and care. I have seen Chris for two visits and had been told to start seeing another dermatologist that was in the building that Chris referred me to see. The new dermatologist isn't in on specific days and I let the front office know that I can't make it for anything past four pm because my job hours and inability to take off hours earlier or later. I tried asking to reschedule for times I'd be able to see and the front office said no and refused to help, so now I'm left without an appointment for any dermatologist to help me with what I need help with and I'm upset and angry at this. I'd have loved to keep my appointment but I can't afford to miss work when it's a brand new job that I've just started and with how i was treated by the woman that answered the phone I'm left agitated and trying to figure why she didn't want to help. read more

I would highly recommend Dr.Harper, i went in with a cyst on my forehead ,over the course of 9 years i had been to 3 other dermatologist as well as a plastic surgeon to get it removed and none of them were helpful and basically said i would just have to live with the cyst because it was on my forehead they did not want to remove it because of a possible scar. Thankful i was referred to Dr. Harper ,Booking a appointment was very easy to my surprise i was able to get one within a week of calling. Girls at the front desk were super friendly . I made only three visits to this doctor. His bedside manners need a lot of work. I thought he took care of my issues but some problems have returned. The billing department is a joke. Because of my good health insurance I have overpaid him. I have been trying to get a refund. After 3 months and 4 phone calls to the billing department I still have not received my refund. I am owed $35 but I doubt I will ever see it. The billing and refund admit I am owed a refund. Every time I call they have a whole new set of requirements or things they want me to do to get my refund. I had to get my insurance involved. My insurance is going to file a complaint. This practice is part of the Chaparral Medical Group. I recommend you look around for another physician and Medical Group. They have been very dishonest with me. read more

I am rating this office 5 stars, I don't believe they deserve anything less. I scheduled an appointment with this office and when I found out what part of Pomona they were located it I expected the worst. When I walked in I could not believe what I saw. Their office is very modern, clean and it has this cozy "I'm at home" feel to it. They have plenty of seating, very comfortable seats. They also have a dual sign in system so you always have someone near the check in window. I felt the staff was exceptionally knowledgeable, professional and courteous. I asked to have a few things done that usually would require another appointment however the doctor took car of them on the spot. They are very efficient and I highly recommend this place. My elderly grandpa has been suffering from severe itching without any evidence of a rash for some time. So I was referred to see Dr. Harper by my primary care doctor. I had a weird freckle, so I went in for my consultation and Dr. Harper agreed it did not look good and scheduled me for a biopsy a week later. He was super nice and took the time to explain what would happen. So I'm kind of a hypochondriac, who is also scared of Dr.'s and medical procedures!! (Fun patient!!) so by the time the biopsy rolls around I'm sweating, hyperventilating, crying, nervous as hell!! Well Dr. Harper came in and reassured me, and was so kind!! He got me chatting (ok that's not super hard) and mid convo he's like okay done!!! I didn't even feel anything!!! So the results came back that he needed to remove the area, again he explained what he was going to do. So I scheduled the appt. and came back much less nervous! I felt Dr. Harper was so awesome, gentle, and kind!!! Also I never got his nurse's name, but she is an absolute sweetheart too!!! I even have stitches which are freaking me out a little but he did a wonderful job, and from now on I am not taking my skin to anyone else!!! read more

First of all I would like to say I am sorry for writing the first review about Dr Harper dated 10 14 16. I was mistaken and should have never posted that review. Dr Harper is so kind, low keyed, and sweet and I would recommend him to anyone and in fact I see him and would not see any other dermatologist. If I knew how to remove my first post I would do it but after several tries I can't seem to remove it . So anyone who reads this please please disregard my first post and go with this review on Dr Chris Harper and I can say you will not regret it. Dr Harper has an assistant named Alvie (I hope I spelled her name right) who is sweet, friendly and makes you feel comfortable. I can honestly say that Dr Harper and Alvie make a great team. I am quite shocked to see the negative reviews of Dr. Harper and his staff. My husband and I just left the Pomona office and everyone was delightful. Easy to park on the street. We were greeted right away. Only had to wait because my husband had to fill out some paperwork. Otherwise, we were seen right away. We did our skin check. Dr. Harper was thorough and we were in and out in no time. Dr. Harper was quite personable and approachable. He asked a few questions of us during the exam. He expressed a couple of concerns that he had. And, I asked a couple of questions regarding some spots on my husband. The whole experience was professional and efficient. We never felt rushed. I called him the painless doctor and he smiled. I'm definitely the kind of patient you don't want to see in the exam room. Ya know the one who has a look of fear on her face. As soon as he came in I said I was scared and that I was going to cry. He very nicely asked if I'd lye down. Then I told him as he brought the needle down to my tear duct, that he was the painless doctor and he smiled as I received my shot. Two very tender shots around my eye later, he tested my numbness and we were good to go. I heard a little snip and it was over. WOW. That was it. No drama. The nurses were stellar as well.
