Chris is a great teacher! Like a few of the other reviewers, I had stagnated in my guitar playing. Chris learned about what I could/could not do from our first lesson, and suggested a learning path that was customized for what I wanted. He gets straight to the point, gives honest feedback and is hard on you when he needs to be. This is the kind of teacher you need if you truly want to get better, and not just hear good feedback. He motivates you to get better, truly cares about taking you to the next level which is all you could ask for in a teacher. Not to mention, Chris is a phenomenal guitar player and skilled producer as well. He truly is interested in all kinds of music, even though metal is his forte. I had to unfortunately stop lessons because I wasn't able to dedicate enough time to practice, but I know whom to go back to when I restart lessons. read more

Chris has been working with my 15 year old for only a short time and we've already seen much improvement. I've been noodling around on guitar for 30 years, yet have no formal instruction on how to play so helping my son become a guitar God just wasn't going to happen. I've sat in on two of my kids lessons and have learned a ton myself. Chris breaks up his instruction into bite size pieces, as to not overwhelm the student. I've had several guitar instructors over the past 10 years, and Chris Lee is far and away the best one I had. I studied under him for 4 years. During that time, he adapted his teaching style to me. Sometimes I wanted to study music theory, sometimes I wanted to learn licks and phrases from specific genres (blues, jazz, etc.), and sometimes I just wanted to learn to play sick solos. He had curriculum to teach me which he adapted from his studies at the renowned Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, he wrote practice material for me, he even transcribed songs into tab for me (quickly too!). Because I was interested in solos, he put a lot of emphasis on improvisation, which I was very bad at when we started. By the end of the time I studied with Chris, I was comfortable soloing over various harmonies, while staying in key. Technically, Chris is a beast. I was blown away by his ability. You should definitely check out the band he plays in (Kinetic). I would have wanted to keep studying under his tutelage, but I had to move away for college. If you're looking for a guitar teacher, I would definitely give Chris a call! He's a great guy; guitar practices felt like hanging out and jamming with an old friend. read more

Having played guitar for 7 years, I've been feeling really stuck; can't go to play with the beginners because it's too easy, can't jam with the advanced players too intimidating and challenging! Through yelp I decided to sign up for a first free lesson with Chris and I was sold after the first lesson! His rates are very reasonable and he uses every minute of the lesson challenging, yet motivating me, and designing his lessons based on the type of music that I am interested in playing. Now, that may sound like most other guitar teachers, but Chris is patient, really really patient, and is able to break things down into simpler do-able pieces to help build my speed and agility, as well as encourage me to be creative in melody too, not just in technicality. I've been taking lessons from Chris for 2 months now, and I can already see and feel the progress in my playing. 2 other great things about Chris: He is able to play all those fast, metal songs (think Paul Gilbert), effortlessly, so it's really cool to learn firsthand live from a true metal guitarist pro! Even though he's a talented guitarist, he's also a highly skilled teacher! Second thing and really important; he understands common courtesy! If you are tired of being rushed out the door after your guitar lesson because the next student is pushing their way in for their lesson and the teacher is already chatting with them while you're still struggling to pack your guitar, and other equipment, and feel like you're in the way, go to Chris! I had the privilege of being taught by Chris for about 4 and a half years. I've learned so much from this guy, and I can fully attribute my growth on the guitar to him. Chris is seriously a talented musician, and he will teach you whatever you want and need to know, whether it be some awesome finger style pieces or some sick blues licks. He even taught me how to play bass during the last year! He's patient, flexible with lessons, and gives clear instructions on how to improve. I would have continued taking lessons with him, but unfortunately I had to move away for college. I've been taking lessons from Chris for a couple years and can say he is a very engaging and knowledgable instructor. Chris is experienced in many different styles of music and can help you to play anything you want. He will also show you the techniques necessary to play any song and the theory to go along with it. It's a bit overwhelming, as learning guitar isn't an easy process, but Chris is more than capable of guiding you wherever you want to go. Chris was recommended to me by a co-worker but prior to discovering him I researched a few other instructors. Chris Lee is an amazing guitar instructor. My son is 13 and was interested in playing the guitar. We purchased a guitar, talked to friends about instructors and searched Yelp. We initially took video lessons, but that did not cut it. Actually, it was a waste of time - my son needed one on one instruction. I spoke to a few guitar instructors, but chose Chris based on his background in guitar instruction and playing. Chris provided a good overview in the first lesson and then spent time with my son, teaching him the basic chords. In the course of 7 lessons, my son can play 21 chords and is also starting to play "Stairway to Heaven". Pretty amazing work in 7 lessons. Chris has provided my son with a curriculum and also provided us with tips on iPhone apps to use that allow my son to stay in rhythm and to tune his guitar. We will continue to have Chris teach my son guitar. Chris has definitely exceeded our expectations and I would highly recommend Chris as your next guitar instructor. read more
