I've been going to this place for years growing up as I did middle school and high school band. The staff here are friendly, understanding, and accommodating. They have a wide arrange of music scores, instruments, and instructors for private lessons. I've come here for instruments repairs or the occasional mishap when a mouthpiece gets stuck. My visit was on a Wednesday afternoon to consign an instrument. If you purchased the instrument from there, you get 75% of the selling price; if not, you get 70%. I consigned an old Yamaha in great condition with all the equipment from years ago. Craig- the manager- helped me find the previous invoice to speed up the process. Was done around 10 minutes! Going into Gavin's 3rd week of saxophone lessons. He's taking lessons every Wednesday. Kevin, his instructor is patient, accommodating, and encouraging. Gavin went into this without any knowledge of the instrument but it was his curiosity that made me make this his birthday gift. He turned 13 last month. Renting the saxophone is not cheap. I opted for insurance coverage just in case. At the end of the day, I am happy to help foster his interests and/or hobbies. He has been practicing thanks to Kevin's helpful guide and worksheets to take home. He is starting to learn the notes. I cannot wait to listen to him play a song to me. Friendly staff. Our son's trombone needed to be repaired, bent spit valve and some small dents. Mike the Music Tech did a great job. Not only did he fix those problems but also lubricated the slide and checked out the rest of the instrument. The repair was fast and my son is very happy with the repair and the new oil. Mike and the rest of the staff are really friendly and low key. I highly recommend them for a repair of a brass instrument. We will definitely be taking the trombone back to them when it needs service. They also have a bunch of sheet music, even for trombones. read more

I have been a long time customer of music village at the Union Ave location. As a music teacher and classroom teacher (now retired) I often worked with owner Don to order more recorder flutes and accessories for my recorder flute programs. He helped me most recently with the purchase of a Bose amp/speaker for vocalist use. I truly enjoy visiting the shop to buy sheet music and appreciate that nowadays if I need a pop song (i.e. Cindy Lauper's true colors or Tracy Chapman Fast Car) they can download that from the publisher and print it for me in the key I need for my vocalist at a reasonable price! That saves me time, money, and work to try to do it myself. This is possible because they already have ties to the music publishers such as Hal Leonard. Well...his is my first review...so in closing what brought me here is that I recently recommended a friend who is looking for a piano teacher for her 6 year old daughter to check out Music Village. I am confident from my 30+ years of knowing this store that good teachers would be part of their overall package. I just wanted to start off this review by saying how incredibly helpful Luis is. Excellent customer service and very knowledgeable. I bought my first brand new guitar and decided to get it professionally set up. (I'm a big fan of vintage and used guitars, a few of which I've purchased from this location.) I purchased a new Martin from guitar center and wanted to see about adjusting the action on it, but didn't necessarily trust the techs at guitar center to do so. I was going to go to a luthier, but decided to bring my guitar by and see what they could do here at music village instead. Luis was very helpful and explained the different things I could do to get the guitar to play to my liking. He adjusted the truss rod for me (which I could have probably done myself but thought it'd be better/quicker to get it professionally done). After the adjustment, the guitar felt great but after watching me jam on my guitar for a bit, Luis assessed my playing style and recommended a further adjustment of sanding down the saddle if I wanted. He said it would only take 20 minutes if I didn't mind waiting so sure, why not? He then meticulously measured everything while also explaining the process and answering all my questions as well. It only took about 10 min after all the measurements were done to sand down the saddle and wow, what a difference! I haven't put down my guitar since I got it back, with the exception of writing this review lol. To anyone that is looking to get a guitar adjustment, Luis will definitely take care of you! This review is long overdue. I've been coming here since I was a music student myself. I'm a piano teacher and I've been a longtime customer here. I've seen different employees come and go, but all of them are helpful and attentive. They are extremely helpful when it comes to what you need. If they don't have a book in stock, they can order it for you. They call you once the books arrive. I've also ordered instruments and benches here. I ordered a Roland digital piano and I remember they actually delivered it and set it up in my living room. Not sure if they still do that, that was over 10 years ago. I also like that they have instruments and benches on display so you can check it out before purchasing. I've found good benches here that I otherwise never have seen in person if I'm just looking online. I recently purchased a hydraulic adjustable bench here and so far I'm very happy with it. If you're a teacher they give you a 10 percent discount and that comes in pretty handy if you purchase often. read more

music village is a gem. it is a great place to visit as regards of all music related needs. they sell new music instruments, books and all parts for repair or replace. in addition of lessons of various instruments. Don the owner has always been friendly and helpful. Tosh the assistant is also very knowledgable and is always ready to help. the store can be busy at times. patient is the key and you will not be disspointed. I had been in the Early childhood field close to 40 years. and finally retired. in the early years of my teaching. I bought an Autoharp from the store in the early 90. it was well serviced and tuned over the years. Don is such a generous manager. He even showed me how to tune the Auto Harp. Very kind to share his knowledge. I retired two years ago, in other words, the auto harp had been collecting dust. I got an opportunity to sub this week. so I pulled out my Autoharp. but broke a string while practicing and tuning. I called and they were able to replace the string while I waited. I truly appreciated their time and skills. Don and Tosh are as helpful and friendly as can be even though I had not visited the store in a long while. I also fund out the store now offers a special event on every third Friday of each month. I dropped off a guitar to be sold on consignment. They knew it was a rare guitar, with a special case and a company issued certificate of authenticity. When I never heard from them, I visited the store. The employee was very rude. I felt as if he was racially profiling me, based on his degree of rudeness when there was no other explanation. sked that the guitar be transferred to the Union St. location. I decided to remove the guitar even from the Union Store. I asked to see it. They showed me my guitar in a beat up cheap guitar case, without the certificate. They had no explanation. However Rob/Ron was very nice, and worked with me to restore what was missing. He called the guitar maker who furnished a new case, free to me, and issued a new certificate. This BLOSSOM HILL store acted in an incompetent manner, if not in a willful patronizing, deceitful and negligent manner. In effect they stole or otherwise took my expensive guitar case, they failed to exercise normal care of my instrument. No one should shop here. Dishonest, careless, rude and unfriendly. read more

We're having my Papi's celebration of life tomorrow and last minute decided we should get his trumpet cleaned. Most places I called were closed, one place wouldn't be free until next week. I called this place and the gentleman who answered, Luis, told me their brass tech was there and could possibly get it done today. I came in and dropped it off, it only took a few short hours until the tech, Michael, had finished. He also plays trumpet and was able to suggest what kind of cleaning Papi's trumpet needed. He was very interested in the trumpet and the mouthpiece and kindly looked up the type for me. All in all it was a great experience, I was overwhelmed with how great it all went and how fantastic Papi's trumpet looked that I had to leave ASAP in order to not cry in front of these kind people. I'm so happy my Papi's trumpet is cleaned and ready for tomorrows ceremony where we will honor his life. Thank you, Music Village! Gracias Luis y Michael!! What can I say? This place is tremendous. I was assisted by a gentlemen named Craig who patiently guided me step by step on what instruments I needed to recreate Daler Mehndi's "Tunak Tunak Tun." Even when we were interrupted by a foreign man who needed to use their restroom facilities to make a bowel movement, Craig made sure that my questions were answered. Music Village is a small music shop that carries all the bare essentials of music, but nothing that any musician actually wants. I have come here for small things before, but that's about it. They have racks of clarinet sheet music that will never be touched, and a bunch of dusty, knock-off Stratocasters with a sign proclaiming "NO JAMMING" next to them. The employees here are alright, but all they do is sit around and talk about the forthcoming Tool album. Music Village also offers lessons in guitar, bass, drums, piano, and all the other wind instruments. All the teachers are rumored to be good and pretty inexpensive, despite Music Village's shortcomings in all other areas. read more

I'm a fan. After weeks of problems, the violin and bow were delivered by the repair guy to the wrong Music Village - the one on Union Avenue. The manager picked the instrument up and had it available at the Santa Teresa location as promised. He offered me a substantial discount for the inconvenience experienced. I offered to pay just a bit more than he suggested and purchased a music book in addition. The work done on the instrument and bow was fine, and I'm looking forward to becoming reacquainted with this fine 55 year old violin. It's not the problems that matter in the long run, but the way in which the merchant deals with the problems....and this unfortunate incident was handled professionally and to my total satisfaction. I've come here occasionally for stuff over the years, this place has a decent selection and lots of music and books. The owner/manager I could tell pretty knowledgeable by his recommendations and they have good service and are accommodating. However for more advanced musicians, their selection of pro instruments isn't great as less people buy those. They can order from manufacturer but you won't be able to try out different instruments to play test. Still, its a nice music store to pick something up. read more

I have been doing business with Dan Since the first of the year 2021 , I read a few reviews of what other folks have said with regards to the work that they had done in the past At Music Village * So I took the advice and Passed up many other shops in the Portland area choosing to do business with a much smaller company / shop . I like the fact that this shop is locally owned and operated . He is simply the most knowledgeable guy I have had the pleasure of working with ...... Dan takes the time to fully inspect my instrument and to listen to my concerns , usually he can make a quick adjustments or suggest a bigger - picture plan for treatment , in the case of my vintage horns ; It was nearly always a scenario of complete overhaul in all 4 cases . The worst case scenario was one of my oldest - An ALTO Sax that had been previously declared as being " Un-Fixable " , With a badly dented - in post near the upper Octave Pip on the body : and I would have normally agreed with that conclusion ...... Except I had met Dan a few months Prior : and ....... I had faith as well as knowing that he had experience in fixing such items ...... the final outcome was that he did indeed get it fixed - Was not an easy fix . . . . but HE knew how and what to do ! The storefront is well organized , Catering to the Band instrument Clientele ; I simply cannot think of any " cons " , As I simply have the highest praise for this ( to my knowledge ) one man shop I am new to the music world , but I have a good working knowledge of how - in any business , you generally get what you pay for : In my experience with Music Village * I have gotten very good , if not Excellent value for my money ;) While there are trade offs of having to wait a bit longer to have the work done on My saxophone ( s ) , I do rest easy knowing that the job was done correctly , the first time . We've been customers of Music Village for several years and their customer service is unparalleled. My daughter discovered a sudden leak in her flute yesterday, an hour before her scheduled (and non refundable) private lesson elsewhere. I called their location to see if there was a technician available to take care of it, Eric T. usually takes care of our instruments and he is our favorite. Craig at the Santa Teresa location asked us to stop by and have another technician on site, Julia, take a look at it. He was very kind and welcoming on the phone and in person. Julia was on her lunch break but the two gentlemen assured me the flute would be looked at as soon as she was done. They asked me if I would mind waiting . . . I couldn't believe their concern. I was the one that brought it in at the last minute and asking for them to take a look at it, without an appointment. Julia took a look at it and in minutes, it was fixed and we were on our way to the lesson. They didn't charge me even though I insisted, because it was a very small issue. THANK YOU for your incredible generosity and kindness. My daughter remarked on your conduct and said we should remain your customers for life. We will! She went on to say that each and every visit to your store(s) is a positive and wonderful experience. We are lucky to have you as our neighborhood music place. Keep up the great work. Music Village has been at this location for what seems like forever!! I got my saxophone here 30+ years ago and my daughter now takes music lessons here. The employees don't seem to be the most friendly or excited to be there but they are helpful when you need it. They have a good selection of music, accessories, instruments, etc. They have services to repair your instruments. Overall, a one stop shop! I get all of my sheet music from Music Village. They have a vast and unique selection of music (for all instruments, but I'm specifically speaking to their piano music array) to choose from. The staff is also very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I once called ahead to inquire about 1 song, and if it was contained in ANY songbook. I didn't expect to get a full or solid answer, but figured I'd give it an ask. The woman that assisted me was wonderful, she checked their database and narrowed down the selection to 2 books. When I came in to pick up the songbook, a gentleman recognized me and presented me with the book.
