grew up going here and i miss it! Dr Chris Leong was so kind and genuinely cared for his patients. He always called me by my cantonese name and asked lots of questions about my school life. Dr Katrina was also great, I always felt so comfortable and cared for with her. She would even ask about mental health and relationships. Thank God he retired. Everything required money - it was ridic. He prescribed my son penicillin and he had a delayed allergic response. School called me and told me had red bumps on his hands, arms and chest. I immediately picked him up and my husband took him to Leong. I don't know why but my gut feeling told me to go to the office. When I arrived, I went to the room they were in and my husband said Leong told them it was hand foot mouth disease. I was perturbed. He had i these rash like symptoms on his chest and arms so I asked Leong are you sure. It looks like an allergy. He said no and was convinced it was HFM disease. We had one more dose of the penicillin that same night but my husband spilled it. Thank God!!!' The next morning my poor soon was covered in hives, blood shot eyes and I almost died! I rushed him the children's hospital in LA. He was seen immediately. They asked a series of questions. They then asked is he on any antibiotics and we said he was on penicillin. Sure enough, they said must be the culprit. They treated him with Benedryl and also a topical steroid. I called Leong that same day and gave him a piece of my mind! Such an oversight on his part!!! Parents - always follow your gut instincts! Always watch for symptoms and just because someone with a degree doesn't mean mistakes can't happen. Always always get a second opinion and it's okay to have doubts!! I actually had a list of dislikes but my review is way too long as it is. Glad he retired....ugh read more

Long wait time every time. We were there for the flu shot and two days later they called us for regular check up. We just waited a long time to see him and now again? I don't mind the additional co pay, my time is more valuable . Terrible experience read more

I stand by my 1 star for the staff and 3.5 stars for the doctor. I agree with the other not recommended review about not being able to see doctor until you pay. I mean isnt that what insurance is for? Ive gone here for the first initial visit out the hospital, 1wk, 2wk, 1month and 2 month visits. First 2 visits were less than 20 min wait. But the lobby was busy and the staff won't recognize you until you pay. They don't even acknowledge you when you sign in either but they have 3-4 people there. The next 3 visits were wait times of 60-90min so be prepared or go somewhere else. The doctor needs to update his staff with better customer service oriented people. They are cheap on their AC system in the summer months. Turn it up! It is hot outside and in the office! They put small fans everywhere but still not enough. Love LoVe LOVE Dr. Leong and all the staff there. Dr. Leong and staff are all patient and professional in the work they provide for your child. I see negative reviews from parents and understand their side over worrying about their sick child and the long waits, but understand that Dr. Leong isn't one to rush to give you a diagnosis and tell you what you want to hear so you can get in and out quickly. He is careful, meticulous, and nothing but patient with your sick cranky children and understanding with your worries and attitudes. The nurses that are working all day with paperwork, scheduling, insurance, clean up, crying cranky children, having the ones that give the shots and deal with attitudes of worrying parents takes a toll on a person emotionally and mentally. They try to smile and cheer up your child, but if they don't, don't give them crap for it. You can smile and be more understanding and polite too. I love the fact the Dr. Leong doesn't pill push. He is patient and will answer all your questions. He takes time with each child in making them feel comfortable before beginning the exam, during, and after. If you felt like you have been waiting a long time, then that is your reason why. Patiently wait your turn and you will see the same treatment he gives to each one of his little patients... TLC to each. Dr. Leong is the one to go to if your child is sick or needs a general checkup. PS... Yes they charge even for a "quick look." Nobody works for free. The nurses, staff, and doctor needs to get paid. If you're there, you're there for a reason and using their time/space. Expect to pay for that. Nothing in life is free. Get over yourself. read more

Both of my son have seen Dr Leong since birth. My oldest son is almost 3. We have seen Dr Leong so many times that I can tell you he does not care much of my kids. During all the check-ups, he doesn't ask me ANY questions regarding his health. In my last visit, he asked me if I have any questions, so I brought up the little bump on his skin to see if he can take a look. He immediately said that's not included in the physical check up. And I need to pay the copay. Basically his check up is to measure his weight and height only, no questions or concerns should be brought up. I believe insurance pay him too much for him to just measure his weight and height during the check-up. When my youngest son had his tongue-tie surgery in his office. He didn't even give us a call to follow up or ask us to come back for a follow-up. Don't even remember we had a surgery. Period. At one visit, they did not give me back the immunization card. I called the office and mentioned that I didn't take it. The receptionist answered me rudely," yea we keep it. We have it on your file". When I went there later they told me they didn't have it and make me pay for the card. I was like, you lost it and I have to pay for it? I forgot how much they made me pay. I think it's $15 or $25. Doctor walked by and said, "Your hair cut is way more expensive. The replacement fee for the card is nothing." Unbelievable. Dr Leong is nice but I'm sorry I think you care about money way more then your patients. And it shows. I don't mind paying the money if you care as much. Our sons' next check-up will be with another doctor. read more

It saddens me to be writing this review, but it's long overdue. My children have been seeing Dr. Leong since they were born, but the time has come to remove emotions from the equation in order to find a more thorough doctor who is not completely consumed by money. I will admit he is friendly and my children love him, which made this process even more difficult. With that being said, he only spends minutes with the kids (mostly playing and showing them his watch instead of examining them). Even when questions are asked, they are generally quickly answered with a "that's normal" or something similar. My main issue is that all they care about is money. So many instances come to mind on this matter. One example: we have a PPO and an FSA account attached for copays, but have still been asked to pay for visits out of pocket because of confusion by the staff. I was expecting a reimbursement for that visit once the situation was resolved (which is was per insurance and staff) but never got the check they said they sent. The other day was the last straw. We drove 30 mins to see him, and once we got there, I asked the receptionist for the doctor to sign two school forms for my children (basically stating that they had their physicals). She stated that it would be 50 DOLLARS for that, as he charges PER SIGNATURE. I completely understand clerical fees, but $25 per signature to state that you did what you were paid for is absurd. Needless to say we left. We went to another doctor and she is wonderful. She pointed out an array of exams that my daughter should have received, and even discussed an undiagnosed condition she has that we were never aware of. While at the office, they requested the children's medical records from doctor Leong. I just received a call today stating that they would not send the records unless I pay $40 to release them. I was not in the mood to argue and said "fine, send me the bill", to which the receptionist responded that they would not send them until they received the money. She says my options are to drive 30 mins each way to pay, or mail a check and once they receive it they will release the forms. My daughter has a follow up next week and will now may have a delay in her needed services because of their pure selfishness. Please look elsewhere for a provider who cares about the well-being of the children they see. read more

I can't tell you enough about Dr. Leong and his front staff Susie and the rest of the gang. I'm sorry I don't know all your names. They are the most accommodating from care, appointments, forms, Rx request refills even after hours! Yes. It's Dr. Leong who calls you back when you page for help in the wee hours of temperature, vomiting, etc. You have to understand that the wait times mean they are tending to each and everyone with utmost care. You will get the same quality time and stickers. We've been with him for about 7 years now with my son. Now with a newborn (almost a year old), I can't think of any other practice I can give my 100% confidence with my daughter as well. Dr. Leong interfaces with the children so well that my son is just very comfortable conversing with. THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT! It's the only way the kids will LISTEN. Even better than paying attention to what we as parents say! Susie is a gem! She's very accommodating. She does not forget! Parents can be very demanding. We need certain things like now. Lol. She doesn't discriminate or judge. She understands each situation and need. She cares. The rest of the girls are attentive as well. Highly recommended! read more

Dr. Leong seems to have a connection with kids, because when he entered the room after a 15 minute wait, my son started talking to him, complaining why it took so long and what was he doing with other people...so naturally. My son is really not that much of an extrovert, so I was surprised that they carried on a conversation so easily. So its a big relief that my son feels comfortable with the doctor. Dr. Leong is a graduate of Yale, which was very impressive and has many years of bedside experience. Everyone at the practice was very professional and nice. I think I found my new pediatrician after quite an extensive search. read more

Dr. Leong is actually a pediatric infectious disease specialist, and he is a conservative doctor who doesn't pill-push! I think all the negative reviewers have to remember 1) insurance is a national issue, it is not doctor specific, everybody has to make a living, would you do your work if you weren't guaranteed payment up front? 2) you are waiting because dr Leong is educating and providing TLC to the last parent, a fast clinic may mean a fast impersonal visit 3) everybody has a baby at the pediatrician's office, if you are complaining about how hard it is to have a baby to a pediatrician's office....good luck on dealing with all the other annoying things that come with parenthood. So would you rather have a fast doctor who gives you what you want? Or do you want an experienced doctor who makes appropriate medical decisions for the safety of your child, won't push pills on you, and who treats your family like people instead of Medical Record Numbers? read more

Honestly we've been seeing Katrina, their PA, mostly for the last couple of years. This isn't because Dr. Leong isn't available but my daughter actually likes Katrina. They appears ask if we need to see Dr. Leong, who's very nice as well, but Katrina does a great job. They always fit her in when she's sick. Great doctor. Love doctor Leong and nurses. The staffs were normally efficient but today's nurses were different except for the front desk. Felt very frustrated with their efficiency today. Today, we were 9 minutes late. Because of that, we had to wait for over 40 minutes. For parents out there, how patience do you think a 1 year old can last at a doctor's office? After 30 minutes wait, we asked the front desk how much longer we need to wait, she said until a room is available. There were two rooms and there was one room completely opened! No one was using for over 20 minutes and we ended up using the same room that was unused after an extra 20 minutes wait! This is unacceptable and inefficient. Btw, just an fyi, through our first year there, I have never once seen the front desk lady smile at all. I guess you have to put on a serious look even at a pediatric office? I am very disappointed and plan to seek another doctor. FYI, one time when we came in for an immunization shot, we asked to see the doctor for a "quick" look at our daughter, we got charge for it. They charge for every opportunity they get. So expect to pay up for a quick look at something even extremely minor. read more

Overall we love Chris and his staff but here is a list of pros and cons we have experienced: PROS All staff is very friendly Easy to schedule appointments Our experience with emergencies has been great so far When he was on vacation we loved our experience with the person left in charge Our boys LOVE Chris and are very comfortable with him and the staff The receptionist is awesome I believe her name is Susie. Separate waiting rooms for sick kids/healthy kids Toys and books to entertain the kids I've been given free stuff/samples including formula, lotion, diaper rash cream, body wash etc. almost every appointment. MID Sometimes you are seen right away and sometimes you might have to wait over an hour! It literally is the luck of the draw! CONS They only take CASH and if you don't pay same day they tack on another $40!!! Parking is ALWAYS an issue He's on the 6th floor and I have unfortunately had to experience the elevators being broken more than once! We caught a very serious situation before he did and it was a concern since the birth of our son. Everything is fine now but it was pretty insane it wasn't addressed before we brought it up. When they have "minor procedures" they do not inform people who have appointments after and there is no telling how long you'll wait! This luckily has only happened to me once but I waited 1 hour and 55 minutes past my appointment time! Not including the 5-10 mins I showed up beforehand! I'm not 100% sure every nurse knows what they are doing. They are all nice but some of them seem pretty clueless sometimes. They have also given both boys bad bruises and made them bleed quite a bit when giving shots. Like I said overall we like this place, there is always pros and cons to everything. If Chris wasn't so great with our kids we'd probably put more energy into finding another place. read more

Pros - Doctor is friendly and seems good with kids Cons - Doctor seems rushed making it hard to get questions answered - Office honors walk-ins over scheduled appointments - Doctor is dismissive of parental concerns and questions - Doctor doesn't dedicate time to patient and parents (regularly called away) - Average wait time was 45+ past appointment time with the longest being 1:20 I'm a little surprised reading the other reviews, because our experience was quite a bit different. Being new to the area, we based our selection of a pediatrician on reviews and word of mouth. We chose Dr. Leong because he was close, accepted new patients and was already doing rounds at Arcadia Methodist. His visits to the postpartum ward were friendly, but usually felt rushed. Being new parents and thoroughly exhausted, I didn't think anything of it at the time. We scheduled our first office visit well in advance per his instruction. As punctual people, we arrived roughly 10 minutes early and sat in the well baby room. We waited there 45 minutes past our appointment time before seeing anyone. Thankfully the baby slept through the wait or it could have been worse. When we saw the doctor, he spent about 15 minutes with us and answered most of our questions. Again, friendly but rushed. The second visit we waited over an hour past our schedule appointment time. At the 45 minute mark, I went to the front desk and asked when we'd get to see the doctor. The nurse told me that they had a lot of "walk-ins" to take care of first. So walk ins take priority over scheduled appointments. My opinion started to get tainted. The baby slept part of the time, but screamed after the 1 hour mark making the visit with the doctor complicated. It's hard to think clearly and get our questions answered with a baby screaming. If could have been avoided if they honored the appointment. I tagged along for the 6 month checkup just to see if things were different. Sadly, they weren't. We again waited nearly an hour, this time with a pissed off baby. When we finally saw the doctor, he was called out of the room twice and answered his cell phone in the room. We tried to squeeze in questions when we could, but we both left his office feeling extremely frustrated. I wasn't able to didn't join my wife for all of his doctor visits. However, all three of the visits I was able to make, I ended up taking a half day off of work for an average of 15 minutes with the doctor. If and when you can get him to sit down and talk, he's a friendly person and works well with the kids. As another review mentioned, he tends to be very dismissive of parental concerns with, "Eh, it's normal." of "Don't worry about it, it's fine." While most times he's right, that's not something you want to hear as a new parent. The deal breaker was the ridiculous wait times that seem completely normal and to the staff. Unacceptable. We've since changed to Dr. Rivera at Huntington Plaza Pediatric Group and couldn't be happier. He takes as much time as needed to answer all of our questions in depth, gives great great advice and our boy loves him. The longest we've waited past our appointment time was 5 minutes and I'm told that was due to an emergency. read more

I am a local medical professional and mother of three kids. Dr. Leong has been our family pediatrician for 6 years. From a doctor's point of view, I think Dr. Leong is a terrific practitioner. He has great medical acumen and is great with kids. He always answered all my questions and seem to genuinely love kids. There has been several occasions where I had to contact him after hours; Each and every time, either he or his assistant returned my call. His front office staff and nurses have always been helpful and friendly. The only thing that bothered me initially was that the waiting room was small. I was always worried that my kids would get sick from the other sick kids in the waiting room. In the recent years, they opened up a well baby waiting room where the healthy kids can wait for their appointments. This turned out to be a really good idea. My kids have never gotten sick after a well check-up since. read more

He totally felt your feeling when my son had phimosis. He and his staff tried all means to find a specialist to relieve my son's pain ASAP. Dr. Leong is amazing! We picked him as my baby's pediatrician before he was born so Dr. Leong came to Arcadia Methodist to do his physical and circumcision. Dr. Leong is kind and answers all of our questions. He's great with the baby. //Staff// Very kind and on top of their game. They call you to remind you of appointments which is helpful for my mommy brain. The nurses are really nice and gentle with baby. //Office// They have a sick room and well room which is a plus. We automatically just bring my baby in the well room when we are there for his monthly appointments and vaccinations. I usually get the first available appt to avoid the wait. Our first newborn visit we waited 45+ minutes but that's pretty standard for a doctor's office. There are lots of toys to entertain the kids. They have them in the waiting room and also in the examining room. Dr. Leong has been our family peditrician for almost 25 years. I love the fact that he is very caring and takes an interest my children. He never fails to ask them about their extracurricular activities when they come in for a visit. I also apprecaite that he NEVER over medicates my children. If they have a common cold or flu symptoms that just need rest, he isn't quick to medicate. My oldest is turning 26 and he didn't stop seeing Dr. Leong until the insurance company forced him out on his 21 birthday. Testament to how much my kids liked having him for a doctor. read more

I feel very fortunate to have been assigned to Dr. Leong after having our newborn. I don't understand the negative reviews. Dr. Leong has been extremely generous with his time, patient in answering questions and quick to return phone calls. The wait time has been standard or better for a doctor's office and his staff are extremely sweet and friendly. My son's health has improved under his care. I am always happy with the way Dr. Leong interacts with my son and other patients that he sees in the halls. You can tell that he really loves children. 4.5 stars I'm a first time mom and very pleased with dr. Leong. Doctor has been awesome with my son during his check ups. The staff is friendly and the wait is never too long. I chose Dr. Leong prior to the arrival of my son based on a friends referral and I've been happy with him. He visited me in the hospital right after the birth and checked on my baby's health. My sons check ups are always easy and they even give free samples of formula after he gets his shots for being a good boy! :) What I appreciate from Dr. Leong is that since I'm a first time mom, I definitely have a lot of questions and you can only google so much and you can't always believe what you read. There are so many different opinions out there. So I've called the office a few times with specific questions and although Dr. may be busy or out of the office, he always manages to call me back. This doctor only care about money not children health. If you ask question for information even your kid is not sick, you will still charge copay. In addition, their stuff wants your money so bad. They make sure you pay the copay. During checkup, the doctor remain silent all the time and he will only say "the child is fine". When you have question or concern about his opinion, he will get mad. He expect everyone is dumb and he is genius because he is doctor. I wouldn't want kid to be treated by a doctor who care about money and so arrogant. read more

Dr. Leong has been our children's doctor since their birth (now 12 and 10 years old). We've been very happy with his care and he has always taken the time to go over any concerns we've had. Other reviewers commented that they are charged their copay at time of visit or a copay is asked for at a preventive visit. This is a standard practice. A copay is due at time of service based on your insurance plan. For the preventive visit, if you are asking the physician to provide information/services that are beyond what is included in a preventive visit, a copay applies. Had you made a separate visit, you would have paid that copay anyways. Why are you asking for a free service? That copay is the physician's right to collect. Dr. Leong is an excellent doctor. His staff has always been polite and helpful. His office is full for a reason. read more

The doctor primarily cares about money and not the well being of the Patient Health. We went for a routine wellness check. A routine wellness check doesnt require copay. Once we are called to the examining room I started asking about my son growth ratio how is he compare to others. Once we were finished he went directly to the front admin and say "30 dollar copay" I was shocked. I guess those 2 questions are very costly. This doctor doesnt communicate well, he is always very quiet and check the kid and then he will say " he is fine" even with a fever of 103.5. Can you explain to me Why he is fine? He just needs to run the bug. What bug? My assessment: *The doctor can not communicate well to parent *He dismissed or Will not answer parents questions at times *If you have a different opinion and ask what he thought of it rather than explaining Why he doesnt agree, he gets mad at you *He is defensive if ask hard questions Do you really want to have a doctor like this to look out for your child? read more

Hello Yelpers - I'm a brand new parent and was referred to Dr. Leong by a co-worker. We fell in love with him instantly. He was the first doctor that took a minute to shake our hands and he even picked up our newborn baby and introduced himself. He showed compassion by carrying the baby first at each visit. He really does take the time to explain things to us and to educate us since we're new parents. I appreciate that he gave us a book that works as a reference guide to our baby's growth and medical needs. Additionally, he was able to provide us with formula samples when he suggested we switch formula. read more

The staff is friendly and Dr. Leong is so great with my kids! The staff is professional and Dr Leong has been my kids doctor for the last 5 years. He is very patient and listens to all my concerns without being judgmental. My kids love him and are comfortable with him, which is a big deal considering that "the doctors" can be a scary place for kids. Susie at the front is always greeting us with a smile and always remembers who my girls are and calls them by their name no matter how long it's been since we've been there. If 0 star was an available option, I would have chosen a 0 star. First of all, I have never written any review on yelp or other similar media in my whole life, I'm a sort of mild, quiet and "take it as it is" type of person for my whole life and I would say my tolerance level is generally high until this one incident that happened yesterday. My 14-mo-old son was sick and he kept vomiting yesterday. I was lucky enough to make an appointment to see this doctor right away (usually the wait time is above 30 minutes despite an appointment). I was in a hurry to take my son to the doctor and I neglected to get cash or check for the $20 copay (yes, they don't take credit card for copay). When I arrived, one of the assistants, named Serena, already gave me a look that they were not willing to see me if I couldn't give them the cash copay. I sort of begged (lack of better term) her to have my son seen and promised I will get her the cash copay right after the visit. She kind of gave me a look and reluctantly let me in. After the visit, they kept reminding me about getting the cash copay to them (it was already almost 6pm) and the cash copay has to be turned in within the same day. I, then, carrying my vomiting son, was trying to get back to the car to get them the cash copay. But my son started vomiting again and I had to calm him down, clean up... and while still thinking about getting them the cash copay before they close. Finally, I ran into two very kind-hearted nurses, named Nina and Bonnie, who work on the same floor as does this doctor. They very kindly offered to help and told me not to worry about the cash copay, but instead to go home with my son first because he was really sick, they told me that they will tell my doctor (cause they know him and apparently he is well-known of this sort of situation) and that I will mail in the check the other day. So on my way home, Dr Leong, was kind enough to give me a call at 6:30pm and told me that I can mail in the check the next day (apparently the kind-hearted nurses have talked to him already), he repeated this statement like more than 3 times on the phone. So today, less than 24 hours after this incident and when I was about to mail in the check, I received this call from the same assistant Serena again, reminding me of how important this $20 cash copay is and that I have to mail in a check right away. And on top of that, she told me I had to give an extra $20 as a late fee because I wasn't able to get them the check yesterday.... I am totally angry regarding this situation right now and I'm going to file a complaint, I mean, you are talking about $20, $20 only!! I mean seriously?!?! A doctor will not see a sick patient lack of a pay-in-advance copay?!?! And if you cannot pay back the same day you get the same amount of copay as your fine? What policy is this? Ultimately, do you care more for the patient or the $20 cash copay? Avoid this place if you could but if you absolutely has to go to this doctor, avoid talking with Serena! His office needs an improvement in record keeping. My kids received repeat unnecessary vaccine shots in 3 years. Although his office apologized It's definitely a red flag!! Among 5 pediatricians (for my 4 kids) in the past 15 years he is the one whom I suggest other parents to stay away! read more

Our appointment was at 1130 and they had not called us by 1220p. Nearly an hour late is unacceptable. Staff did not apologize. They consistently have patience delay everybody because of insurance issues, which again is the staff's fault because they never verify before the appointment. Must pay for the office visit before the staff will let u off the hook and go into the waiting room to be seem by the doctor. HIPPA law obviously don't apply here. Payment collection seems to be the priority rather then the patients's well being. Furthermore, cash or check only. No credit card accepted. IRS got to check on their tax return!!!!! Although there are walk in hours everyday, us who made an appointment need to wait for at least 30-45 min at least before going into the room to wait for the doctor (another 20-30 min). Very good and friendly doctor and stuffs. Dr. Leong is very patient to listen to us about our daughters' problem. He always return our calls even though sometimes it's late, but we know he will call us back. Will definitely recommend to friends. read more

Wait time is extremely long. This place only cares about money. The doctor appears to be nice and personable, but doesn't even bother to communicate with me or my kid when there are problems. You have to go back and pay copay several times for minor illness. We'll find another pediatrician. read more
