Maybe Chris' isn't a 4-star place, but I want to bump up the ratings because it's not bad. The place is old (I actually like the antique smell in the restaurant door area), the decor dated, and tables may be a bit sticky... but the fresh-cut fries are just that and my cordon bleu sandwich hit the spot (the bun is different, kind of weird, but fine). The convenience store part is reasonably priced if you forgot something and they have soft serve that can be cones or shakes (right now, late July, they have Bear Lake raspberry purée with chunks). So we went up the canyon and the restaurant I wanted was closed so we ended up here. Looked nice so we stopped. Simple breakfast menu I ordered ham and eggs. Not thrilled. Eggs were over done and ham was not great. What I can't get by is the $2.00 charge for a glass of water. Don't care what the excuse is it's just plain disgusting. Horrible service. No wonder they only had one customer. Stopped at this spot to grab some drinks and use the restroom before heading up to SnowBasin. Walked in and saw the $5 minimum to use the restroom. I set a $5 bill down on the counter and walked to the restroom which was a dank dimly lit room with no locks. After I got out a lady who I assumed was the manager handed me back the $5 bill and aggressively said "here it looks like you need this more than we do" she the asked me to not come back and said that because the bill had a tear in it it was not useable. She claimed that I had intentionally ripped it. I explained to her that I got the bill from 7-11 and if it wasn't good enough I can give her the other cash I had in my pocket I pulled it out. But at that point she had already shoved the bill back into my hand and told me to never come back. Their single customer they had is obvious considering the level of service. The food was not great, halfway through eating my burger there was a hair in it and it grossed me out and my brother took one bite of his and was grossed out before even knowing about the hair in mine it was an expensive burger that was not even good, I walked in to get some ranch and saw some dogs wandering the back kitchen which would not usually bother me because dogs don't usually gross me out but I didn't see any kind of sign or anything stating that they had dogs In the kitchen or In the restaurant which I think they should let that be known out of respect and for those who have allergies towards dogs. My grandpa who was also there and got a shake for him and my grandma walked in to use the bathroom after eating the shakes outside and they told him he couldn't use the bathroom because he need to pay $5 first after he just ordered the shakes, I don't mind them charging $2 for water I just bring my own and don't let that bother me but it was the hair in my food, the service, and telling my grandpa no to use their bathroom after he was a customer. Our experience Started with a sign for $5 bathroom use, sat down to a $2 glass of water sign, was going to move our table a foot or two into the sun and viewed a $50 move your table sign. All a little weird for what should be commonly free services at any restaurant. We asked about the water sign as our menus were dropped off and it is due to the drought we were told, as we sat across from Pineview lake that is flooding the fields and over full. Not a great start. My wife's egg white omelet came out bright yellow and not egg whites obviously. The hash browns that we ordered with our breakfast meals extra crispy came out as soft warm potato cubes. This is where you go when you have a large appetite and want some solid food. No frills, not beating around the bush, just straight to the point good food. I love the vibe of this place, I feel like I am in a hunting lodge waiting to hear stories of bears killing men and vise versa. The Chicken fried steak with Gravy was awesome. Came with eggs and bomb wedge style potato hash browns. I am not sure what seasoning goes on those but it is good stuff. Had some great flavor and filled me up nicely. Let's start with the crazy thought to charge $2 someone for a glass of water. Then, to charge $5 if you don't buy anything at all to use the restroom. I watched the staff tell people with children they weren't allowed to got to the restroom unless they bought something first. While I was there for my lunch I ordered the bacon cheese burger with fries and my $2 water. It was $20 out the door for a burger and fries and small water. The burger was over cooked and the entire time I was there I worried about hair being in the food I was eating. The fear was present because there were 3 dogs, 2 large dogs and 1 small dog roaming the restaurant. They would walk by my feet, into the kitchen, behind the bar, anywhere they wanted. They even had water bowls set out for them. The service was pretty good though! They should definitely stop charging people for water and for the restrooms. Learn to cook a little bit better for how much they charge and please just leave the dogs at home. read more

It's two toilets with a wall between and a tiny wall with a sink on it so there is no privacy. And you have to spend at least $5 to use the restroom. And to end it all there was a dog in the kitchen. The food was good and Julie, our waitress, was great. I would have given them four or five stars, except for an uncomfortable encounter that we had with the owner. When we arrived the restaurant was filling up. We found two tables pushed together. Only being a family of four, we pushed slid them apart a little (maybe a foot or so) so that someone else could use the other table. After about 20 minutes the owner approached our table carrying our food. She asked if we had separated the tables, we said we had. She pointed to a small sign (next to another table against a different wall) that was partially hidden by a wooden decorative wheel. It said there would be a $50 fine for moving the tables. Then she lectured us about the importance of the tables telling us that they had sentimental value. She told us that people drag them all over the room (which we didn't) and that they can break very easily because they're so old. We were then told we would have to help our server put the table back before we left. The entire exchange felt condescending. I can understand that the tables have important sentimental value, but if they're as fragile as she described a restaurant might not be the best place for them. If they're going to be there though, then at the very least there should be a sign more clearly posted, and the servers should warn customers as they walk in. All we were told was "pick any table to sit at." We didn't mean any harm in moving the table over. We were just trying to be polite and not take up more space than necessary so they could accommodate more guests. If a confrontation was necessary to inform us and get our help in moving it back, it could have been handled more tactfully. Thankfully they didn't charge us the fee, but the conversation we had was enough to sour what otherwise would have been a pleasant experience. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I love coming to this place for breakfast. The biscuits and gravy are awesome and the scones which are their signature are amazing. Coffee is served in a large thermos so you can do your own refills. The staff is very friendly and attentive but expect your food to take a while to get there.
