So, we took a drive from Oakley just to have lunch here and it was worth it! First the place is the oldest bar in Utah so right there it is monument of sorts, worth seeing as an homage to drinking. The atmosphere is just terrific. Old, funky and just fun. Some locals were playing pool and the waitress treated us like we were in that same category. Onto the food - they server two mains, burgers and hot dogs. We both went with the burgers. Cooked perfectly and we savored every bite. The wife went with a double cheeseburger with bacon and I went with the classic Star burger - two patties and a krautwurst. Notably my wife doesn't like bacon all that much but she ate every single bite of the double burger and did not even give me wee bit of bacon. Chips were chips, just fine. It is a cash only (and Venmo) and they even have an ATM, just in case. Have not seen one of those outside of Vegas in years. Can't say enough good things about stopping in to grab a burger or dog, soak up the atmosphere and just relax for it. Comprehensive beer menu but we did not partake that day. read more

About 15 miles from Ogden in Huntsville UT (if it took you 55 hours to get there, you might be in Alabama) is an amazing old Saloon with so much character, and absolutely some of the best burgers you will ever have. I had the Star Burger, their signature offering and it lived up to expectations--- no question. With two juicy patties and a Knackwurst sausage in-between with grilled onion and melted cheese, what's not to love? This was a simple thing done SO well...I was thinking about this burger all the way back home and for days after. In fact, I'm almost tasting it while I'm writing this and can hardly wait to come back. 10/10 (and maybe more just for sheer character). Not sure if you'll see the house dog but so so so cute and trust me, I would have had a dining partner if it were up to the pup. I don't suggest straying too far from your burger if you make the acquaintance. Haha! Service: If you have not had the experience of eating here you may get confused. You need to order at the bar. They do bring the food to your table. If you choose to clean off your table, you can. It's not required. They get very busy, so the service is outstanding, all things considered. Ambiance: This place is nostalgic and fun. They have dollars stapled to the ceiling. I've been here 3-6 times per year for the past six years. It's seen better days. There's only 2 things on the menu: burgers and hot dogs. The burgers used to be really good, but the past two times I'd come here, they were massively over-salted, and also overcooked. Nearly inedible. There is no music in the place. Just a jukebox that is only sometimes used, and the songs are very old and played super quiet. They serve only beer & wine (no spirits). The past few years, I've seen fewer and fewer customers, even on a Friday evening at dinner time. There used to be a bit of a positive energy, but not in the past couple of years. The employees these days make a lot of negative comments and are outwardly unwelcoming to outsiders. I've seen it many times. Given that the place promotes itself to tourists, this really is not acceptable. I would recommend hiring a new cook (who can cook) and new staff who are at least moderately welcoming and positive. The place only accepts cash, and charges $3.50 to withdraw $40 from its ATM. I don't understand what they can't accept a credit card and/or ApplePay. A lot of places nowadays accept only digital payments and have eliminated cash. In terms of "ambiance," I've never been a fan of its interior. It's 146 years old and looks it, with freebie beer logo stuff tacked to the walls, and decades old dollar bills hanging from the ceiling. But others probably find it kitschy. One thing going for it: it's the only place to eat after 4 pm in all of Huntsville, Utah--which is a whole other conversation. Lack of competition often leads to a decline in food quality, service and atmosphere. And I think that's what happened when the BBQ joint down the street closed 2 years ago. The town needs some additional eateries, and maybe Shooting Star will realize it needs to improve to survive. read more

Friends brought us to this hidden gem. This place was originally built as a trading post in 1850's and converted to a saloon in 1879. They only accept cash and have a very limited menu but it's worth a trip in to check it out. The crazy decor is amazing. It has dollar bills all over the ceiling. Great lil spot near salt lake! We popped in here after a day at Snowbasin and it hit the spot. It's a cash only joint but they do have an ATM inside if you don't carry cash usually. This is one of our favorite burger places. It is not what you would expect when you walk in the door you are going to want to turn around and leave Don't. This place is great! I think it is the oldest saloon in Utah. They have a very limited menu of burgers and hot dog. No fries or anything else. The shooting star burger is great a hot dog on the burger. The place is small about eight booths and a few tables and of course, the bar. Nice selection of both tap and bottled varieties. Give them a try and you will probably like it. Bartender was rude when we first walked in. All I wanted was food and made me feel unwelcome.

I used to drop by after a day of skiing and loved the previous owners. The lady was from Sweden and was always a joy to see. Today, it feels like a tourist attraction. The beers are good, the burgers are not as good and it doesn't feel as warm and welcoming as it used to be. It seems understaffed and the staff seem over worked and unhappy to be there. The taxidermized dogs' head stretched over a bear's frame hasn't moved since my first visit in 1983. I have heard many good things about the Shooting Star from many car and motorcycle enthusiasts. This was my first visit. As the rest of my party went inside, I stayed back to get some outside photos. A local patron walking by gave me a quick history lesson about how this is the longest continuously operating bar in Utah going back to the 1930's. He also mentioned that they are the only one with a dog head on the wall. This I had to see. Much to my surprise as I walked through the door there it was looking right back at me. Being a big dog lover I hope there is a sentimental story behind this beautiful stuffed dog head that looks back smiling at everyone that enters and exits the building. The service was fast and friendly. We did have to remind our server about the coffee order, but it did finally make it to the table. The burgers were massive, moist, and delicious. Needless to say we all left full and happy. Highly recommend you take the ride up the canyon if you have never been. If you have been there before, isn't about time you went back? read more

It's a dive bar with delicious burgers and dogs. Lots of bikers enjoy riding here to grab a bite and a cold one. We heard about it from the campground nearby. It was unfortunately too hot to sit on the back patio area. Luckily we were able to grab a table near the bar, and the bartender took good care of us. My love decided to try the Mini Star Burger--a burger and a hot dog together on a bun. It was surprisingly good! I had the Cheeseburger and it was tasty too. One Star Saloon Historic bar in a cute little town by the reservoir that serves a decent burger. Now that the good is out of the way, I'll focus in on why this is a one star review. I rarely give out one star reviews--so it's safe to say the one star was fully earned. I wish I'd gotten the gals name who was our waitress today, but she's the older gal with the Karen haircut and somewhat of a hunched back (worked the lunch shift on 06/20/2024). Absolutely dreadful customer service skills. Extremely rude. I don't think I've ever encountered a server who was *actively* trying to antagonize me by snide comment after snide comment. So incredibly unwelcoming and unkind towards visitors. I couldn't imagine employing someone who treats customers the way she treated us. This is truly one of my favorite bars on the planet but after today I don't think I will go back. When we got there it was around 2:30 and it was packed but it soon started clearing out and two seats opened up at the bar. As we sat there we noticed that there seemed to be only two people who were working the bar, one person in the kitchen and "Shelby" who seemed to be the bartender/server. They were still pretty busy so we understood that it was going to take a few minutes for Shelby to get to us. However the bar is small and we were sitting right in front of her and there was absolutely no acknowledgment whatsoever, but again we understood that it was busy. After almost 15 minutes she finally greeted us and took our order. The bar stayed quite busy so again we understood that it was going to take awhile to get our food. 45 minutes was what the estimated time for a burger was. Again no problem. But after watching the gentleman who arrived after us get his burger and eat it, It was now a little after 4 and we had been there for over an hour and a half. We finally inquired after our order at which point we could see Shelby looking for our ticket and we realized that she most likely forgot to put our order in and informed us that she couldn't really say how long our order was going to be. She seemed completely indifferent and acted as if it was our fault for even being there. We both work in restaurants and understand better than most how taxing and difficult working a busy shift can be so we are much more forgiving than most. But it doesn't matter how busy you are you should still be hospitable and give good service, neither of which seemed to be in Shelby's purview. In fact i don't remember a worse form of hospitality than that given by Shelby. We realize that The Shooting Star Saloon is a destination spot-(we were starting off my birthday weekend there)- and that they will always be busy so who cares if the service is good right? It's really too bad because every other time I've been there the service has been great and the food even better. This time the service was the worst I've seen and I couldn't tell you about the food because we never got ours. read more

Used to be a favorite, but let's face it food is limited to burgers and chips and its a cute place if not grungy. Service is terrible. Maybe racist. My wife was checked out up and down when we entered and then ignored. Only one other customer in the place and we we were close enough to the bar where the bar tender could take our without stepping out from behind. Apparently, cleaning glassware was more important. I guess I'm supposed to stand up to order as the bar tender was actively avoiding any form of interaction...but as we got up to leave, that didn't garner any attention either. I've always wanted to go here and I finally got the chance a week or so back. I wasn't sure what the procedure was, but I was immediately encouraged to grab a table. Check the beer case before you sit, though, cause the table menu may not match what's in stock. I went with the straightforward cheeseburger and then the bells went off and my brain's lightbulbs lit up. It's the meat! Phenomenal! Great burger after a day of skiing at Snowbasin. Very close to a couple ski areas. Easy to find off the main road. When you are famished from skiing all day, this is the place to drive to for great prices on a simple menu of hearty burgers. Look up and notice all the dollar bills hanging from the ceiling and around the walls. Reminds us of Key West. You will think you've gone back in time to the 1800's in this historic part of town. The inside decor matches that thought. Hubby could hardly eat his Star Burger and Lays chips. I devoured my Mini-Star Burger and Lays chips. Staying in Eden/wolf creek, Utah at a timeshare. It's definitely more rural here, small town vibe. We asked some friends for suggestions on where to eat and they recommended this place. This Saloon is the oldest functioning saloon this side of the Mississippi - no joke. Established in the late 1800's. It's definitely got a cool historical feeling. We parked in front of the restaurant and noticed three men eating a big burger outside on the restaurant porch. The burger was big and juicy and they seemed to be very focused on it. We walked in and we were greeted by the hostess who then asked to scan our ID's to ensure we were 21. We'll get down to the nitty gritty. Our waitress was old and sassy. She gave us some good options and took care of us. The whole table ordered the "Star burger." We added bacon on it, cuz why not? I ordered the seasonal Uinta Winter Ale which was really good and paired nicely. The star burger is a patty, with a "knackwurst" sausage, and bacon. Meat overload but soooo good and worth it. You can choose between fries, potato chips and something else. Needless to say, I was way too stuffed to eat or look at anything else after that burger. Word of advice. Don't come here on a semi full stomach. Empty yourself so you can get that star burger. read more
