They got him moved as soon as another bed was available. We were both in Halifax after a very serious car accident, leaving him with broken ribs and me with neck fracture and lumbar spine fracture. We went into Brooks rehab after our hospital stay, and that was very good also. Our one main concern was that my husband was without pain meds and food/water for an extended amount of time because they kept saying he was going for a specific MRI (for gallbladder and pancreatitis), but they never showed up until the next day. He was in serious pain, even sweating due to pain, so I was very upset by this. Alex and Brittney, on 7th floor were WONDERFUL nurses! They came quickly when he needed them and never made him feel like a burden to them.

I felt that my concerns about my health were not taken seriously and that I did not receive the level of attention, communication, or thorough evaluation that I expected from a hospital. The nurses, doctors, and staff appeared extremely overworked, and in my experience, that seemed to affect the quality of care and communication. I also have serious concerns about billing and how patients are informed about their medical care and paperwork. I believe patients deserve complete transparency about what is documented in their medical records, what procedures and treatments are being performed, and what they are being charged for. I also have concerns regarding experiences during COVID-19, including how certain paperwork, treatments, and vaccinations were handled. These are serious concerns that I believe deserve proper investigation and accountability. A hospital should put patient safety, honesty, communication, and well-being first. Patients should never feel like they are simply another number or another bill. Based on my personal experience, I give Halifax Hospital 1 star. I sincerely hope the hospital takes patient concerns seriously, improves communication and accountability, and makes meaningful changes so future patients receive the care and respect they deserve. Patients deserve to be heard. Patients deserve transparency. Most importantly, patients deserve safe and compassionate care.

Doctor Zamora, didn't know that my husband was on speakerphone because he couldn't be with me. I had a bubble in my lip from what he called getting filler laying down during my surgery and when I asked him to fix he wanted me to pay for another filler needle to fix his mistake. At the moment my husband was just listening on my speaker phone. I was alone in the room when Dr. Zamora thought said, "either you're going to be an ASSHOLE or I am!" Not knowing my husband heard this inappropriate comment, my husband said out, "WHAT DID HE SAY?" Dr. Zamora looked around in shock and asked, what was that? I commented in tears that my husband had not been there in person, but was supporting me via phone! I was horrified. He ran out of the room. He got a needle and fixed his mistake immediately! He was caught being his true self. MORAL TO THIS STORY: Dr. Zamora is all sweet at first but left alone with him he has no respect for his patients. Worst of all my nose job healed horribly and I have to get it fixed! THERE ARE BETTER, MORE PROFESSIONAL AND MUCH MORE QUALIFIED doctors IN THIS AREA. This guy is in his own words, "AN AHOLE" and in MY experience despite their reaction to this comment is a STAY AWAY!

Even though I didn't get to see the Dr., I still felt it was important to write this review as a physician's office staff is also greatly important to a patient's care. I called on Monday to try and make an appointment. I followed the prompts for a new patient wanting to make an appointment and left a message, giving them the information they wanted and a short history of my symptoms and medical history. By late morning Wednesday, I had not heard back yet and decided to call again repeating the same scenario. By Friday morning I still had not heard back from the office. I called again and chose a different prompt so I could speak with someone. I was very courteous; I understand that offices can get busy, maybe the scheduler had been sick or on vacation, etc. After sharing with the woman who answered the phone that I was wanting to make an appointment but hadn't been able to, she asked to put me on hold. 5 mins later, another woman answered and asked how she could help. I shared the name of the woman who was already helping me and she said, I know, she asked me to help you. So, I asked her if I could make an appointment. She said she couldn't do that, but took my last name and let me know that the scheduler would get back to me. She didn't know when that would be and we ended the call. 5.5 hours later I finally got a call from the scheduler only for her to say that they don't see patients who have previously been in a car accident. I thought maybe she confused me with someone else. I was not in a recent accident, there was no lawsuit or workman's comp case so I shared again that it was a closed thing and it happened over 4 years ago. She repeated, "it's our office policy that we don't see patients who have been in any car accident no matter when." When I said "OK. Do you mind me asking why? I've just never heard of this." She said "sure, it's just our policy." She had this information for a week. A week longer I now have to wait to seek treatment. I'm most frustrated with how discourteous they were and unapologetic for their lack of care and waste of my time and efforts. I'm also dumbfounded on this policy of not treating patients who have, at one point in their medical history, been in a car accident. It's not a recent injury with possibility of lawsuit or workman's comp, so what do they care? I could bet that a good majority of their clients have a physical trauma of some sort in their patient history. This boarders on discrimination and speaks volumes of this office to me and the care I am seeking. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere.

I have been receiving knee injections from Dr. Hawthorne in my attempt to postpone the inevitable - knee replacement surgery. More about that another time. On Father's Day weekend 2023, I felt a momentary sharp pain in my right shoulder. Having felt a similar pain in my past, I assumed what I had done. I put off seeing Dr. Hawthorne until July. After the CT, the official diagnosis was, "retracted full-thickness, full width re-tear of the supraspinatus tendon and, retracted full-thickness near full-width tear of the infraspinatus tendon". In laymen's terms, I tore my rotator cuff - again. The surgery (not arthroscopic) was addressed in mid-August. I started in-home PT 3-days after the surgery (arranged by Dr. Hawthorne's office). In-home PT continued for 3-weeks. I am currently in outpatient PT doing the work to re-gain both my strength, and my range of motion (also arranged by Dr. Hawthorne's office). By the way, I have a tattoo on the shoulder where the surgery was done. Without exaggeration, you would not be able to tell that I had surgery if I did not tell you. The point of incision is barely visible. Dr. Hawthorne is a man of few words. He'll give you the facts to help you to decide the next steps, without the glitter. When you are ready, you can move forward with him and trust that he will do a great job. I trust him. As soon as I have completed PT and have fully recovered from rotator cuff surgery, I will be scheduling with Dr. Hawthorne to get my knees done, one after the other. I highly recommend Dr. Hawthorne and his team.
